before people complain 'why is dustin with steve again instead of his best friends' - number one, he very much IS with mike, will and lucas for a bulk of the season and the trailer and stills show that, but number two because steve is dustin's brother. during season four, people complained that dustin was being unnecessarily mean to steve, but anybody with siblings could tell you that their dynamic had simply shifted from being best friends to behaving like true siblings in season four. both dustin and steve don't have a family unit they can rely on in the same way mike, will and lucas can and do. they don't have siblings, they don't have fathers who are present or who care about them. but they have a family that they found and that family is each other. they bicker, they annoy each other, but they also know that whatever is going on, they will fight like hell to protect one another and can always rely on each other, because that's what families who love each other do. the world is essentially close to ending in season 5. of course dustin wants to be with steve. he lost eddie last season, who was a brother like figure to him. he'll be terrified of losing the person who - for years - has looked after him, looked out for him, helped him, filled the gap dustin had in his life compared with his best friends, annoyed the shit out of him, but above all loved him - and loved him without condition and without hesitation. steve is dustin's brother. it makes absolute sense that with everything on the line, and with the loss he has already experienced, dustin is going to be hellbent on keeping close to and protecting his family - and steve is dustin's family.

I DO NOT want Mike to confess his feelings to Will in a high stakes situation where he thinks Will is in danger. That’s just going to mimic his speech to El when she was dying.

We literally always talk about “Mike could only say it to her when he thought she was dying!!” And how that’s unhealthy because he thought the only way to save her is to give her what she wanted.

I want Mike and Will to SHOW their love for one another by protecting each other and chasing after one another to save each other. (Also bc Jopper, Lumax, Jancy don’t need to say ily to each other’s faces in order to feel loved by one another).

I also just want Mike and Will to confess to each other in a quiet moment, where their feelings are loud, and they have, temporarily, escaped chaos.

I hate the idea that Mike would kiss Will out of possession/being vecna’d because I think it needs to be a moment they are both fully present for and understanding of each other. (Also Will has had way to many parallels to being SA’d and kissing him without his full consciousness feels wrong to his arc).

I think when they confront their feelings and kiss, it will be after a high stakes situation that they face alone, where Mike saved Will, and vice versa until they could escape together, that’s when they have a heart-to-heart that becomes THE heart-to-heart (cue heroes by david bowie and flashbacks of their pining as they kiss).

so basically mike and will kiss or have some heartfelt conversation at lovers lake,vecna gets jealous so he makes will have a seizure thing from s2,mike saves will and will is all passed out in joyce’s arms,then mike has to like protect them all from something
