With Confidence // Factory Floor, Marrickville Supported by Roam // Between You and Me 27th October 2016
Off the back of their UK tour With Confidence continue to raise the bar for Sydney’s music scene on their second headline tour; showcasing the blossoming talent shown in their debut album, which also translates into an energetic and all round enjoyable show. Having such a successful 2016; joining hopeless records, warped tour and a successful debut album release and touring once agai with fellow Sydney natives 5 Seconds of Summer, it’s incredibly hopeful to see a local band grow so quickly and remain so grounded in the process. As a long-time fan of With Con, it was a pleasure to have been given the chance to attend this show.
Melbourne native, 5-piece pop punk band, Between You and Me were tasked with the first support, an often impossible feat. However, it became evident very quickly that the band was well known amongst the crowd of locals allowing the boys to tackle the set with vitality. They were well received by the crowd as they performed all five tracks from their 2016 EP Paper Thin. Their passionate performance of the single Trees In The Winter was a particular highlight, injecting an adrenalin shot into the crowd, setting a standard for the rest of the night and undoubtedly leaving the stage with a room full of new fans.
That energy was definitely not going to deplete if the second support and personal favourite; UK native, ROAM. This transatlantic treasure definitely had some fans in the room. As a band that With Con have toured with on multiple occasions (Taking turns at who headlines) their fans have become somewhat one in the same. And the boys of ROAM did not disappoint, attacking the set with talent and finesse. With a set-list including their most intensely energetic tracks from the 2016 album Backbone and showcasing the gorgeous ballad that is Tracks (not without expressing a feeling of obligation towards playing it). Finishing off the stellar set with fan favourite Cabin Fever, Roam leaves the stage with an assurance that they’re welcome back to Sydney whenever they please.
It started with the first chords of Keeper followed by a slew of screams that would convince you they were about to play Welcome to the Black Parade which is quite the achievement in a resurgence of a new generation of emo. Front man Jayden Seeley’s stage presence radiates an indescribable joy from the moment they step on stage. Displaying impressive vocals through the absolute bangers Archers and Voldemort.
After a mix of tracks from their debut album Better Weather and some fan favourites from Eps Distance and Youth, Fellow vocalist Inigo takes the lead with an emotional and very personal performance of Keys after a heartfelt speech about mental health and wellbeing.
The rest of the set was filled with more songs from their most recent album, including Gravity, Higher, and Waterfall (In which Jayden chugs a beer upon the crowd request), The stage presence and banter between the three guitarists continuing to thoroughly entertain even those who were not familiar with the newer songs.
Then the time came…
Godzilla is undoubtedly one of the most iconic songs With Confidence has ever written, and it showed. When the opening notes of this song rang out, every fan that had been following them since Luke had black hair and Jayden had a side fringe, transcended the realm of crazy. With an always notably impressive guitar riff by Luke.
This was then cleanly finished off with another fan favourite London Lights which as per usual spawned a gloriously aggressive circle pit and a room so full of energy and sweat it was almost tangible.
It’s very evident why With Confidence are not going to stop climbing anytime soon. Each song is performed as vivaciously as one could hope, with a band chemistry you couldn’t fake and a close relationship with the crowd only complimenting such a passionate performance. The boys gave it all they got consistently through an undoubtedly exhausting performance and in turn earning the credit they deserve in the local scene. It is an honour to see bands like this still be successful in 2016.

Live Review - Harbors/Our Past Days + Support
Yesterday (28th August 2016) I had the pleasure of seeing the band Our Past Days, Harbors and Hindsight at the well established underground venue The Red Rattler. This was the second time I have seen both top bill bands and the first for Hindsight, this being said the experience was rather unique.
The venue was an ideal size for the size of the crowd. It is my understanding that the bands Undercast and Cute Is What We Aim For were both playing at the Factory Theater at the same time so the crowd had a few people running in between the two venues causing a bit of fluctuation in size, but the smaller size of the Rat lent itself to the said situation. My one negative would be the over use in red-fill lighting causing “A nightmare in lightroom” - Resident photographer Bree Vane.
The crowd seemed to be a mix of fans of the band and the familiar faces of the Sydney pop punk crowd. This mix of concert goers meant a consistent energy. Although the first few supports were a tad slower by the time Hindsight got on stage (and off and around) The crowd became fully committed to collectively losing their shits only to return to their conversations as they patiently waited for the next set.
Harbors performed an enegetic set list comprised of a mix of their back catalog including their newest ep (Link below) The lead singer Tory Robertson gave his all to every song, running into the crowd every now and then even. Its very clearly written on his face the passion he has for his craft and is a joy to watch perform.
Our Past Days showed a consistent amount of energy through the set (including an unplanned request to finish off the show) Despite being put in the category of Baby Band these boys show a level of skill and profession to suggest they’re seasoned pros. They worked the crowd in a successful manner through a well balanced set list and friendly banter. Overall they are a must see for any fan of pop punk/hardcore
Overall this was a successful gig and both bands are a must listen!
4.5/5
