Taking the Fee by bobross, 6 k, explicit. PWP Omegaverse fun. This story is medical kink – a pelvic exam and MORE for Omega John, and though it comes across as “dubcon” the author hints, and explains in the notes, that this is really a role-playing situation between partners.

Dilaudid by Lintilla, 62 k, explicit. Alpha!Sherlock and Omega!John. This was one of the most interesting, ploty omegaverse fics I’ve ever read. Only males are A and O, and omegas are treated like glass and bound as soon as possible to an alpha. John manages to live his life passing as a beta on hormone suppressants that his pharmacist father developed. So many plot twists, and rocky stops and starts between John and Sherlock, and such clever reworking of canon throughout the story. Wow. This was an amazing fic, and such a wild ride. Thumbs and toes up.

The Liquid Measure of Your Steps by mazarin221b, 8 k, explicit. Omegaverse with an interesting twist – Omegas hold Alphas in thrall to their powers of attraction. While investigating the death of a young alpha at a strip club, Alpha Sherlock, and Omega John discover each other. Friends to lovers. Scent kink and competency kink. Sweet and hot. Hot, sweet, and a slightly different take on the o-verse.

Dustfall by AmandaDBone, 19 k words, explicit. Classic omegaverse fic. Maroon space dust falls from the sky and creates the new genders later termed alpha and omega. Wonderfully done story as everyone struggles to understand this new phase for humanity. Sherlock is now an omega, and John an alpha, and they dance around each other until they can’t anymore. Well written, good world building, and fabulous sex scenes. Thumbs up!

She finds herself working her way into a poly relationship with Beta Sally and Alpha Irene, that while isn’t “normal,” just  works for them. Some very nice sexy times worked in with interesting commentary on sexism and societal expectations. Thumbs up!

The Unabomber and Fight Club

I was reading some of Ted Kaczynski’s The Unabomber’s Manifesto and I realized that there was a striking similarity between his life and the central motif of  Fight Club.  I wonder if Chuck Palahniuk had read some of the work before writing FC. To start with… Ted signed all his later bombs with the initials FC, for Freedom Club.  The entire manifesto calls for a rise against technology to fight the ever increasing depression in humanity. Sounds a bit like Fight Club, right? How about this section (taken from wikipedia): 

Imagine a society that subjects people to conditions that make them terribly unhappy, then gives them the drugs to take away their unhappiness. Science fiction? It is already happening to some extent in our own society. It is well known that the rate of clinical depression had been greatly increasing in recent decades. We believe that this is due to disruption of the power process… The entertainment industry serves as an important psychological tool of the system, possibly even when it is dishing out large amounts of sex and violence. Sounds like parts of the monologue Brad Pitt would say to Edward Norton, except they’re straight from the manifesto.  I am certainly not as smart as the Unabomber. Perhaps he has a calculated vision of the future that most of us just cannot see. Reading into his bio, he was one of the brightest students at Harvard, and became one of the youngest professors at Berkeley.  It made me wonder how he could justify killing people, and I began to rationalize his methods. Maybe in his eyes, hurting 20-30 people to save the world is worth it? Or maybe his intelligence is so far advanced that hurting other people is no different than squashing ants by the kitchen.  I absolutely cannot condone the murder, but I will note that his ideas describe a very dark future. There must be a bias in which the people whom I regard as intellects are all very wary of machine intelligence, haha. Here’s some more current reading on that: Sam Altman, Machine Learning  Are we all just pouring money into our own demise? A future where stupid fat people wander aimlessly through the galaxy waiting for Wall-Es to clean up a barren planet?  Ray Kurzweil predicts that by 2045, we will have merged with our own machines. Cyborgs to do the super-human tasks. Is this the stuff the Unabomber saw back in 1970? He claims that humanity has lost its ways with the advent of the the Industrial Revolution. Ted wants sustenance farming.  Oh well. I am just another sheep programmer jumping at the money. There are plenty of smart people now at the helms of the ship. Today in “Let's expose how hard Thorin fall for Bilbo”

In AUJ after the iconic hug between Thorin and Bilbo.

That hug, Bilbo starts to talk how he is not a hero and how he doesn't believe in himself since the beginning and everyone it's listening to him.

Like everyone but specially Thorin, well, in that moment the eagles take fly and everyone take their looks to them.

But, you know who doesn't see them?

YES, THE KING UNDER THE FUCKING MOUNTAIN.

If you see that scene there are 10 seconds since the eagles take fly and they look at the mountain, and in that 10 SECONDS THORIN DOESN'T TAKE HIS EYES OFF BILBO.

He only take it off when he sees the mountain

There, and Bilbo seance it, he knows that Thorin it's looking at him, that in the moment he leave to starring he knows that something else catch his attention.

But, I mean, THERE IS A LOT OF AMOUNT OF EAGLES OF MANWHE FLYING AROUND AND THE ONLY PERSON THAT DOESN'T FELL THE JOURNEY DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THEM BECAUSE HIS BURGLAR IT'S MORE IMPORTANT THAT THE FUCKING GIANTS EAGLES.
