the bouncer followed you through the club, you're not as welcome as you think you are. Or perhaps more valuable dead? Maybe you should leave.

blood splatters onto the bar, the bartender gives the one man a cold stare, "if you want to kill each other, don't do it near the drinks. don't spoil the night of others, or mine."

Mafia AU (ocs) - This never gets named I fear - Preview
“Customers have been slow this month,” that’s what my mum said to the people in the hall. They came to collect the monthly loan, checking our records to make sure we weren’t hiding anything.
The man wearing a black suit and red tie grabbed the folder from her hands, perhaps you could say rip it from her. He goes to the month of October. “Surely the dogs in this part of town need a haircut.”
My mum jerked back, her hands are shaking. “No, I mean- yes! But- money has been short for everyone. A haircut is something they can skip once or twice-“ She was silenced by the red tie man giving her a hard stare. She simply shuffled back next to me, hand clasping mine. Mum wasn’t a tough person, she never was. Always loose of a personality, open and free. We were only in this mess because she took a loan from the wrong people. If I had the guts, I would step up for her once. If I had the might, I would take the gun from the drawer right next to me. Right under the picture of me as a child, holding an ice cream, grinning into the camera.
But I didn’t have the guts; I was weak, like my mother. I was never anything more than ‘Olivia’s spoiled son’ for these men. It never bothered me before to be called that, especially when I was young. But the older I got, I got to know why these men were bad, why mum was so scared of them. When I started to understand we owed the mafia money, I always hoped we could pay.
I seriously hoped to never be in this situation. If I reached for the gun now, one of the men in our hallway would notice. Red tie, maybe the blue tie, or that hideous yellow tie man. I was sure the gun wasn’t even loaded, so I’d be dead before I could even think about where we kept the bullets.

Jay jumps down the roof onto a nearby broken balcony, jumping against a drain pipe and sliding themselves down to the ground. The sounds have gone silent once more, but they follow them either way. This was the best lead so far. They turn the corner and stop half-step, their eyes widen. He recognized the figure on the ground. Opal, what was she doing here? No, why didn’t she move. Jay takes another attentive step around the corner, gaze fixed on the body on the ground. Opals eyes are dark, not blinking. Blood was seeping from her throat, a dagger in her left hand, lost her grip on. It fell away a few inches away from her hand, no blood on it. Her mouth is slightly agape, some blood dripping out of it. Her throat was ripped open, like some beast would. It looked brutal, made Jay sick to their stomach. Their gaze goes up, stopping on the shadowy outlines of a figure. They couldn’t make out the details, but something within just screamed vampire.
When you say vampire, you usually have that one typical image in your head. Dark cloak, black hair and red eyes. This one didn't wear no cloak, just everyday clothing you would see on a person passing you in the street, or in the grocery store. Like an average man, just like Jay was warned about. Not a beast Jay was sent here to slay, they almost felt something close to pity. Perhaps these vampire hunters before them couldn’t kill them, simply having to blame empathy. But Jay felt no empathy for this creature, not when he seemingly just killed on of their kind. How old was he anyway? Surely if you have lived so long you can somehow conjure up some gothic fashion sense. He didn't flash his teeth either, show some intimidating behaviour, no he was just staring. Staring from that dark corner in the room, not with red eyes, no, with orange ones. Not a colour you would expect, something about it felt off, they didn't have a name for it. But those orange irises felt unnatural, so piercing, Jay didn't dare to move a muscle. Perhaps these irises were what screamed so unnaturally vampire about the beast. The only thing that did seem true to the assumptions was the black hair. From the beast’s chin drips blood, Opal’s clearly. Did he even feed on her? Or was this simply for the pleasure of the kill? How vile.
Finally, the vampire spoke up. His voice was less how Jay would have expected it. It was young, perhaps their age. “Are you scared?” It almost felt mocking, getting asked that question. “I’m not afraid of you,” Jay answered with a disgusted scowl. The vampire steps a little closer to get a better look at Jay, he was smiling. A cocky smile that made Jay’s blood boil, the urge to rip his throat out just like he’d done to Opal. “People who aren’t afraid are usually either stupid or naïve.” Jay scoffed as a response, reaching for their dagger at the side of their belt. The vampire watched their hand, then glancing back to their face, the smirk still on the bloody lips. “Perhaps you are both.”
Vampire AU with no title - CHAPTER 1 (part 2)
⁺‧₊˚ ཐི⋆♱⋆ཋྀ ˚₊‧⁺ Jay hops the fence, landing in a dark alley. They let their eyes adjust before glancing around the small, narrow pathway. It was barely lit by the distant streetlamps and moonlight. Jay tugs on their belt, the slight rattle of items making themselves known for a slight second. They only packed essentials. A dagger, a crucifix and a crossbow. Food would risk giving off a scent, weigh them down even more. Jay needed to be agile, be able to follow a vampire if necessary. Their hand is constantly touching the hilt of their dagger, their eyes darting to each little flicker, each little movement. They avoid puddles from the recent rain, stalking out of the alley. Jay flips their hood up, covering their face as best as possible. This part of town was abandoned, worn down, still they didn’t want to risk being seen, recognized as human and attacked. Monsters lurk in this part of town, citizens usually avoid it. Old legends may want to sell the idea of vampires living in big, fancy castles, just simply because it sells, or it sounded dramatic. But those creatures, they lurk, Jay knows that all too well. Sure, it was downgrade going from the idea of a giant castle with way too many room one measly vampire could ever possible need to a dirty alleyway in between some buildings that seem to be falling apart, but it does fit. Those who don’t know the area could easily get lost here, and vampires could attack and feed. Each flickering lamp they pass doesn’t scare Jay, they only glance to the sounds coming from bushes or abandoned shops. As they find a ladder, they approach it. Jay’s gaze goes upward, nothing looking down on them other than the moon. Jay grabs their gloves, readjusting them on their hands. They climb as with low huffs of breathing, pushing themselves onto the roof. With a light step, Jay makes their way over the roof to another, eyeing the alleyways below. New strategy, new luck. Right? A chocked cry catches their attention, stopping midway on a roof. Jay turns, trying to figure out where the sound came from. There’s another sound, a dull sound of something hitting the ground. A grunt and some thuds, a yell. East, it came from the east.

With that, they turn their back. They hear Reyes trying to call out, get them to sit and stay, but Jay’s mind was already made up. They were just unlucky, that’s what it was. Kicking in the door was a onetime thing, something they did when they were younger. Reyes always brings it up. Jay’s methods may be rough, but they could work. They were just unlucky. It’s almost shameful being in their mid-twenties and not even spotted a vampire once before. They know what to look for, beasts, something unhuman. Jay used to think vampires would stick out like a sore thumb, but they were wrong. It’s a well-known fact in the circle of vampire hunters that a vampire could be anyone. The public eye feels safe in the daylight, but only because they can’t see them. You know someone’s a vampire when you see them in the dark, that’s what mentors tell you when you train to be a vampire hunter. The rumours of vampire’s burning in the sunlight was false, of course it was. It only eased the minds of the Everyday man. Jay watches the sun set out of their bedroom window, their hand grips the dagger at their side impatiently. The hunt begins when the last light of the sun has completely vanished. Tonight would be a success, they could practically feel it in their bones. They don’t care what Reyes says, they will go out there tonight once more, find a vampire and crush its heart. They will be greater than Opal, better than any of the hunters before them. They knew this was their purpose, to become a hero to humanity.
Vampire AU with no title - CHAPTER 1 (part 1)
Jay stabs through the flyer, pinning the paper to the table. They sit in the plush chair, which probably costs the Guild a fortune already. The whole room is decorated this way, fancy, glittering and in deep reds and browns. Polished wood, silken curtains and pillows filled with wool. On the walls hang paintings of generations of vampire hunters. All great men and women, humans who have killed and hunted these beasts for ages, decades even. Most of the paintings have a polished wooden frames, these were elite members. Those who could find traces of vampires, track them down. But those whose frames were golden, those were the elite of the elite, legends. Hunters who successfully tracked down a vampire, rammed their knife through their heart and managed to slay one. Jay’s glance is fixed there, on one of the paintings with a golden frame. They do not know the name of the hunter, but they do know that that person has a legacy, something they want to archive. Go down as one of the few who actually killed one, a vampire. “Jay, are you listening?” The voice sounds aggravated, and their gaze snaps back to the man standing in front of him. “Yes, sir,” Jay answers, sitting a little bit more straight. “You want to go all out, I know. But the way you hunt, I don’t like it. You’re loud, they see you coming from miles away.” “I don’t get what’s so wrong about my methods.” The man sighs, putting his head into his hands, “Jay, kicking in a door is not subtle, and neither is yelling and trying to scare them. Those beasts are sly, they’ll escape as soon as they notice you.” “It worked on my other targets,” Jay tries to argue, taking the dagger back into their hand, putting it back into it’s scabbard. “I will kill one, Reyes.” “I like your enthusiasm, but you haven’t even managed to track down one. Your methods worked on previous targets, yes, because they were humans. I told you so many times, you need to change your strategy. Perhaps you want to accompany Opal? Just this once.” Opal was an older woman, blond hair that went down to her shoulders, brown eyes. She is in her mid-40’s and has been in the Guild for years. She’s known for her successful findings of vampires. She’s been in the Guild for longer than Jay, even if they were basically born in it. Even if the frame of her portrait was wooden, she was still a respected member. Jay could never stand her, she always pretended to be better than everyone else. “No, I don’t need help,” Jay scowls, crossing their arms and sinking further into the seat. They kick their legs up, crossing them on the edge of the table. Reyes lets out a long sigh, something he does usually when the young members get injured, or they don’t listen. By far, Jay has probably heard it the most. “Jay. Your stubbornness has it’s positives, but lately I think it’s getting in the way to your full potential-“ Jay kicks the edge of the table, turning the chair and standing up abruptly. “I don’t fucking care, I’ll kill one.  My way, and you’ll be wrong. As always, Reyes.”
