Someone tell me if this has been written and if it hasn't someone write it: Adam pretends to be really uncertain of himself/acts like he wants declan to like him for Ronan and then when Ronans back is turned adam terrorises declan in ways that are so minor and inexplicable that when declan tries to tell on him he just sounds like a giant asshole making stuff up.

i think a couple of people tagged me in wip posting and i don't want to go back through my notes so i'm just posting a little wip here

i have a nsfw wip but don't really want to post that on tumblr, so here's heart-wrenching angst instead! adansey in the week after bllb.

"I don't know," Gansey says quietly. "I never seem to know what you need. I always get it wrong."

"That's self-pitying," Adam replies. "I think I'm supposed to be the pitiful one right now."

Gansey half-smiles and Adam doesn't. Oh, Adam. "If you told me what you needed right now. I'd do it. You know." Anything, anything, just to make it more bearable for Adam. If this is what it's like now, Gansey doesn't want to know what his death will do to Adam, as selfish as that is. Then again, he supposes he won't know; he'll be dead.

Adam shrugs. "I don't know. I have homework I need to do." Their adventure didn't mean they got time off school; Adam threw himself right back into work like he would melt away without it.

"I can help you." Adam's mouth ticks up at the absurdity of this statement, given how proficient Adam is at school, and Gansey amends his statement. "Read something aloud, or… no, that's really all I can think of." Most of Gansey's main electives are reading-heavy, which is something he regrets only sometimes.

"Sure." Adam reaches for a textbook. History, something Gansey is fond of, something he knows Adam enjoys, but doesn't revel in. He flips to the page he's on and hands it over to Gansey.

Gansey starts to read, trying his best to stay steady and measured, not to sound like he's holding in a tidal wave of tragicality and sorrow. Adam doesn't take notes, though Gansey doesn’t know if that's because he's listening quietly or if he's not listening at all. After some time, Adam lays down perpendicular on his mattress, on his back with his legs pulled up. Gansey perches next to him, cross-legged, and every so often he'll dart his eyes over to Adam. He stares up at the ceiling, mouth a thin, pale line on his face. Oh, Adam.

literally so sick and twisted that blue was dating adam + in love with gansey and couldn't kiss them bc of her true love's curse and YET. there are no ao3 fics of her getting them to make out so she can watch. disgusting.

It's so hard to see the point sometimes, when the things in life I think are meaningful turn out to mean nothing and the people who are supposed to love me don't. - Maybe certain kinds of pain, at certain formative stages in life, just impress themselves into a person's sense of self permanently.

“Tell me to go to school closer to you and I will.” Was absolutely mind blowing and jaw dropping and INSANE when I first read it.

Cause at that point, we know that a key part of Adam’s entire personality has been getting out of Henrietta, and finding freedom at college. So wdym he’s all of a sudden so desperately in love he’d be down to move closer to Henrietta to be with Ronan??? I kinda love/hate when Maggie leaves all this character development to happen off-paper (tbh we get a little more insight in the Opal short-story I’ll give her that)

But also it makes a lot of sense when we get that Adam monologue (technically he’s talking to an unconscious Ronan ig) about how actually, this uni stuff fucking sucks and it’s not the ideal picture I’d imagined. I think some part of Adam wanted Ronan to say yes so he could get out of that environment he hated while not admitting it to himself that he wanted to.

always thinking about the beautiful duality of trc characters… like yes, adam is sweet and caring and protective towards his friends, and he’s incredibly righteous and thoughtful and perceptive. he’s also prideful and cynical and a little mean and self-determined to a fault. he’s a desperate teenage boy and a powerful magician. he’s forever trying to become his own person yet is possessed by a mysterious entity beyond his control throughout the majority of the series. he thinks he’s unknowable and unloveable yet he’s the center of ronan’s universe—ronan, who knows him, in unexplainable ways. he’s convinced other people pity him but instead they respect and admire him more than anything. adam is perfectly imperfect. and i love him all the more for it.
