Another thing I love about Robin that makes me prefer him over his American counterpart (and this is from someone who casually likes CBS Ghosts), is he's a rare example of a character who is very sexual, who has canonically fucked a LOT, but it doesn't define his personality like a lot of men in media who sleep around.

He's not a "love them and leave them", he's not cold or dismissive once the act is done. He's not into anything long term but it's very important to him that the other person is cool with that (like how he can't relax around Mary until she assures him they're good after their night).

He laughs at Julian's raunchy jokes but doesn't make any himself and doesn't do any of the borderline SA stuff Julian comes close to (goosing, bottom patting, wanting to watch Alison nurse etc).

He respects women, refers to them as "ladies" while men are "guys". He watches Loose Women. His main squad for a couple hundred years was him and three other girls (and occasionally Humphrey). When he talks about his perfect date its going all out somewhere fancy and expensive, treating her like a princess. He's not afraid to show his own vulnerabilities and comforts someone when he sees they're down. Basically he lacks the toxic masculinity that goes along with a character who doesn't want a romantic commitment. He values platonic and family relationships more and I love that.

He's open that he lost count of how many kids he fathered in life but he wasn't a deadbeat dad, he took care of them as well as kids who may or may not have been his because that was the responsibility of everyone in the tribe. The way he lights up when he sees Ethel and Biddy and how he attaches to young Sophie speaks girl dad vibes. Most macho-horny-male characters seem to either want or end up just having sons (or if they do have a daughter it's like the only way they can suddenly respect women).

He's just a Very Good Boy.

Going back to CBS Ghosts, again that's also why I think Flower is his real equivalent, as she's also someone who believes in free love but isn't written in the typical slut shaming way, she's just happily poly and bi, and a total sweetheart. Wheras Thor plays into the macho, insensitive, kinda a jerk with just the odd soft moments.

I'm not naming and shaming op because i dont want nonsense on me page but op is so bland and almost puritan like. Yeah they are awful and godless and hate each other to the death and that is why they are balls funny. Did anyone ever say Seinfeld was bad comedy because he wasn't a moral role model. Growth and feelings schmeelings lmao. "Abusive family" literally me when I can't read nuance. The whole point of family is yeah there will be some aunt or uncle or grandpa who makes lewd jokes and has outdated problematic world views whom you can't spend more than ten minutes with ((Julian and Fanny)). There will be an annoying sibling or cousin whom you will have to shake off at every turn, who never seems to be able to learn "no" for an answer no matter how many times you tell them ((Thomas and Kitty)). But the idea of family also means they've got your back in spite of it all at the end of the day ((the burglars! The "sister" scammer! The Fiji bank account!)) You want cotton candy clouds and sunshine and daffodils go cry me a river to titanic and steven universe instead. Terminally unfunny take glad ye enjoyed your bland american ghosts tho.

Something that has still really stuck with me about Ghosts long after watching it is just how healthy Alison and Mike's relationship is... That was the first time I saw a couple in media I consume that I thought had a genuinely healthy relationship and it is still shocking.

Part of what made Ghosts for me was Alison and Mike's relationship. If they had been written to be a couple that fights over money, are constantly at each other's throats about house renovations, and the setbacks they face it would have made them unbearable to watch.

I genuinely felt a connection to them and I love their relationship as characters. Alison and Mike struggling to start out felt so relatable, instead of them both having pre-established careers and stable lives. I loved the messiness and chaotic nature of their lives and seeing them grow as people. Alison and Mike had their conflicts but in the end, they always worked it out! The only real times they had any genuine fights that I can recall were when Mike almost got blown up by a literal prototype mine (honestly valid- I would have been mad too king-) and over Bear Grills. Even then their fights did not end in tears or saying regrettable things or worse coming to blows, they handled it in a very healthy way.

Mike cares so much about Alison and is so supportive of her, her dreams, and her weird ghost things. Mike genuinely puts up with so much from the ghosts for not even being able to see them and can hardly interact with them. He would get annoyed at times and rightfully so but he would never be extremely resentful or hateful to Alison for the ghost's behaviors.

They are genuinely the best couple I have seen in media, granted I don't watch much but STILL.

IDK where this ramble came from but they linger in my head quite a lot.
