I know 100 people have probably already asked this, but, given that quite a lot of your predictions for Hong Lu ended up being wrong, how did you feel about the actual way the chapter played out?
I suppose enough time has passed for this post to not need a spoiler warning.
Overall? I liked the Canto, but I felt like it could have been more. I wasn't exactly disappointed per se, but I do feel like something was missing that could have made it jump from good to great.
I loved Part 2 a lot, it was the best Part 2 out of every Canto, but I felt like the pacing on Part 3 felt off by comparison. It didn't feel as climactic compared to other Cantos if that makes any sense.
Otherwise I don't have much more to say, surprisingly enough. I enjoyed what was there despite everything.

I think the ask I sent a while ago got eaten (or I鈥檓 just impatient sorry) so uhhh I鈥檓 gonna send the second question I asked again cause I really wanna hear your answer.
What do you think is the most Fucked Up scene in Canto VIII, since there are two in particular that really stuck out to me and I wanna see how many people are on the same wavelengths as me.
Oh man, there's a lot that is Fucked Up in this Canto, but if I had to choose one...
I'd say Jia Huan Jr's death. There's just something about the fact that it's an on-screen child death that pushes it further into the disturbing realm for me than the rest of what happened.
That being said, while not the most Fucked Up, another scene that stuck out to me was when Baoyu first tells Xiren about what he saw. Something about how realistic both of their reactions are in that scene just gets to me.

Do you think Hong Lu and Meursault will have similar cantos in that they both involve dehumanization of the main sinner?
I could certainly see that happening, though perhaps in a slightly different way! Hong Lu's flavor of dehumanization was blatant objectification, while for Meursault I could see a sort of othering take place.

two things!!
1: so it's revealed in canto 8 that his name isnt really hong lu (jia baoyu but we knew this) and he says when faust recruits him "Hong Lu. I want to be Hong Lu." now this is cool as i interpreted it as him finally doing something of his OWN will and not "surrendering" to what others want of him. now my question is why Hong Lu?? why that in particular. as far as i can tell theres no explanation as to why he chooses Hong Lu in specific, not even a mention to its meaning. i ask what your thoughts are
2: have you seen ishmael's xichun id uptie story yet? would love to hear your thoughts there too
Oh boy I really neglected my asks, let's fix that a bit huh.
Considering how early in the timeline that happens, I doubt the meaning of the name is that uplifting. Yes, he chose the name himself, but he also refused to name any wish of his own. My own theory is that it's him putting into words what he feels like he is. Hong(yuan)'s Jade. Hong Lu.
I have finally seen it! I am intrigued and terrified by the implication that mirror world can be created from anyone's wish, thus why they don't have to make any immediate sense when it comes to their details. Also growing increasingly nervous about the Seasonal Hong Lu ID. They are cooking up something fierce with him.

Do you have to become Lu is pretty okay now?
He's still got some development ahead of him before that can happen.

Hey you! Yes you!
Do you like Project Moon? Do you like Pride Month and supporting the LGBTQIA+ community? Do you remember the Absolute Pride Resonance event from last year?
If you answered yes to any of these, you might be interested in the Absolute Pride Resonance 2: Absoluter Prider Resonancer. That's right, it's happening again this very June! With some returning faces, and some new ones!
For those uninitiated, APR is an event on YouTube where PM content creators come together to raise money for Outright International, a charity organization helping LGBTQIA+ people all over the world. There's plenty of fun events to go around, some returning and some brand new, alongside rewards for reaching certain donation goals!

So while I was playing Canto 8 Part 1, I noticed something interesting.
Yes, Two in One is dead. Completely destroyed brain dead. And yet, Hong Lu's Daiyuisms continue.
The way Hong Lu's parents treat him like this frail, sickly thing reminds me more of Daiyu than Baoyu after all. Not just that, but the fact that he recites the extremely Daiyu Flower Burial poem in the intro of the Canto is still unaddressed.
So, what gives? Why is Hong Lu still seemingly having references to Daiyu? Well, that's what this observation is about.
I believe this isn't exclusive to just Hong Lu. I believe all of the main three - Baoyu, Daiyu, and Baochai - have had elements of them shuffled.
Baochai's introduction is a noticeable parallel to book Baoyu's introduction, both her energetic and inquisitive personality and the whole "shared jade" thing.
Additionally, Limbus Baochai lacks her book counterpart's golden locket, instead having a jade pendant more reminiscent of book Baoyu.
Then there's Daiyu. Her current motivation for serving the Xue family struck me, as book Daiyu has no real family left to care for as both her parents are dead. No, her motivation rather reminds me of book Baochai's motivation to marry Baoyu, that being to support her own family by marrying into a more prestigious one.
Additionally, whereas Limbus Baochai lacks a golden locket, Limbus Daiyu seemingly makes up for it by having golden accents in her primarily blue and gray design.
So here's what I think happened: we're dealing with what I'd like to call The ShuffleTM. The main trio of DOTRC have had their roles partially swapped in their adaptation into Limbus. Baochai parallels Baoyu. Daiyu parallels Baochai. Baoyu parallels Daiyu.
Hong Lu's Daiyuisms are simply the result of The ShuffleTM.

Canto 8 Part 1 spoilers
Two in One is dead! And honestly, I couldn't be happier! I get to watch in horror because I know whatever is being planned is scarier than that. I'm excited to see where this all goes.

Can't tell if I'm seeing things but I swear on the canto announcer preview Hong Lu's eye is *not* the right shade. That seems concerning.
From what I can tell the strange color is a result of both the overlay over the video and general color compression. I doubt it's anything.

This video illustrates it very well I believe
Wanted to gush about my favorite new piece of Hong Lu Being A Little Shit that's now emerged
For every other Canto PV, the last 3 especially, the track proudly blares a unique principal theme of the Canto. Overwhelming, Erlk枚nig, and Oblivion have set the trend for this being a moment for the Sinner's worst fear or ambition to haunt the background. Something uniquely them.
When we get to Hong Lu, his moment to shine, what does he give us?
The Limbus Company/Leviathan motif. It's like he's STILL refusing to give himself actualization or desires to show us. Any time the track tries to go into its own personal melody, you can hear it trying to yank itself back into the neutral Limbus theme. Where the motif has always been a symbol of hope, now it's just concerning- why won't Lu let us even HEAR him?
That is fascinating. He truly is hiding until the bitter end.
It's making me wonder what the track's actual usage will be in Canto 8. Usually the Leviathan motif is saved for winning combat tracks, which makes the choice to use it here all the more interesting. Who are we fighting that Hong Lu fears winning against so much as to haunt the background?

I know you've mentioned before that you don't think Daiyu will be a 'love interest', but I was wondering what you think they'll be instead?
Given that most of the Jia cousins seem to have been made into siblings I'm betting most likely that it could be that. Because if they're cutting out the romance angle then Daiyu just being like. a friend doesn't feel as gut-punching as a sibling or lover given the magnitude of what's implied to have happened.
My thought is that since Daiyu doesn't have the Jia name (unlike some of the cousins like Xichun) they'll be a sort of charity case. A kid the Jias took in for brownie points, mimicking how in the book the Jias took her in since her father couldn't take care of her after her mother's death.
In my mind it'd make them an adoptive sibling who never feels like they're Truly part of the family, especially if they keep their Lin family name.
