Sonolin Short Fic

I whipped this little thing up for a friend and I had a lot of fun with it. There's some potential here for a really fun dynamic - especially as a slow burn sort of thing - but I just like to plop them down already kinda settled in their relationship when I make these sorts of one-shots.

Surge the Green Knight Reflections

Would y'all be surprised if I said that I initially had no concrete plans for what Surge the Green Knight would end up being? I kinda just said it out loud on Twitter one day and it got a weird amount of traction (for my standards) so I knew I had something cool on my hands there. I knew that Surge had to be there and I knew that she had to have some sort of quest, but I was kinda flying blind for the first chapter.

But it was partways into the second that I realized I could do something interesting with the concept. So I set the story to be explicitly post-SATBK instead of an alternate story. There are very few (at least that I know of) that really play with the idea of a post-SATBK story that aren't about shipping Sonic with someone else because he's trapped there or something. I thought it would be somewhat refreshing for there to be another concrete end goal Black Knight story instead of instead of another "will-they-won't-they" romance. They're well written don't get me wrong, but that's not what I wanted.

Ever since chapter 2, I've had my eye set on the ending. That has not deviated since and it will end only in a way that Surge can end it because it is Surge doing it. The more that I learn about Surge canonically and the more galvanized some of my headcanons become about her, this really is her story and it can only end this way because she is who she is. What that will end up meaning is something for you, the audience, to chew on. Ain't I stinker?

And to that end, I feel like I've done waaaay better than expected. Obviously my most popular stuff on AO3 is my smut because... I mean come on. I know, we know. Who doesn't like watching their two favorite characters getting railed? But having a solid base of people who follow me specifically for Green Knight updates feels so nice. I am constantly floored by the cool people I've run into because of this story. People who I feel are way cooler than I'll ever be. All because of this funny story about a green rat. Crazy stuff.

That all being said, I'm not taking a break or whatever. I'm definitely taking so time to up my craft though and really make sure the remaining chapters (I say that like I'm even halfway done) hit just like they should. I will not repeat the sins of my FF account where I left all those stories hanging to time indefinite. I will finish this story. It will have a satisfying ending. And I can't wait to get there.
