Though most of the guests were known to him, or at least their family names, there were still quite a few people who were complete strangers. He'd been prepared for that, however, having taken part in high society events since he could remember. It wasn't the first time his family home was swarmed with people he'd never met before. "A bit," he agreed easily enough, taking in the wizard who he had accidentally knocked into. The man's accent caught him off guard, but he quickly schooled his features. Xanthos Haîma... despite being unfamiliar with his name, Lucius trusted Rabastan. If this was a close friend of his, he'd play nicely.
"Rabastan did, did he?" He questioned, searching the crowd for the man in question. "Any friend of Rabastan's is a friend of mine," he spoke smoothly, his lips upturning into a bit of a smirk. "Is that so? We'd be honored to receive such a gift." Blinking, he took a small sip of his drink, turning his stare on Xanthos. "And what country might that be?"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He had been expecting a somewhat stiff affair when Rabastan had invited him along to this society wedding and, thus far, his assessment did not seem wrong. Xanthos was used to slightly more… energetic events in his home country, but the locals all seemed to be having a pleasant time.
His entrance (flying in atop his Pegasus) had garnered plenty of attention but obviously not so much as the couple of the moment, one half of which he’d finally spotted unoccupied. Curling his fingers so a glass of red appeared between them, almost as dark a red as his dress robes, he stepped over and was slightly nudged before he could gain the groom’s attention. “Please, it is no trouble, I am quite unharmed,” he smiled, his accent strong but the English words pronounced expertly. He rumbled a deep laugh at the gratitude’s and shook his head slightly, “And how often have you repeated that line so far today, my friend? A rather stiff affair in some aspects, no?”
Extending a hand, he shook with Lucius before introducing himself, “I am Xanthos Haîma, a close friend of Rabastan Lesstrange, I believe he secured my invitation.” Still smiling, he continued, “It is tradition in my country to provide a gift to ward of evil spirits and I would wish to present it to you, it is a speciality of my family.”

Where: Sitting room in Malfoy Manor When: Post-ceremony, pre-reception Who: Narcissa @nrcissasblack
Adjusting his cufflinks, Lucius entered the sitting room outside the main ballroom. With the binding ceremony already officiated, and hundreds of guests situated on the other side of the wall, all that was left to do was for them to celebrate. Unable to hide the seemingly permanent grin on his face, he spotted Narcissa on the other side of the room, near the door they'd cross over once it was time for them to be announced.
"Mrs. Malfoy," he teased, powerless to help himself. As if subconsciously, he adjusted his boutonniere, naturally made out white narcissus, and strode toward his wife. "Apologies for keeping you waiting, love." Reaching out a gloved hand, he closed it around her own, lifting the back of her hand lightly to his lips. "You can blame my father for the last minute wedding paperwork." His eyebrows raised lazily. "I told him that signing it tomorrow wouldn't be the end of the world, but..." he trailed off, eyes searching his bride's face.
She was a stunning bride, as he knew she would be, and he felt nothing but adoration in that moment. Potentially some pride, sure, but he was genuinely happy for the first time in many years. It seemed like the world had dangled the possibility of their union in their faces for years now. Whether it was either of their parents, Narcissa's sisters, or the events of war, obstacles seemed keen on halting them. They'd made it to this day, though, despite the hectic path they had to travel. "Funny that we've had no time alone today. I hope you know how unbelievably beautiful you are." He heard his words come out a lot less smoother than he'd expected, and it was likely the wide smile on his mouth to blame. "You are the perfect bride," he mumbled lowly, lowering his head toward her, eyes alight.

Where: Malfoy Manor Ballroom When: Post-Wedding Reception Who: Open
Tumblr media
Lucius had experienced his fair share of overwhelming days in his life. His father forcing him to meet the Dark Lord for the first time at a mere fifteen years old, being permanently branded in the presence of at least a dozen seedy strangers, and the day the war had officially ended all stuck out to him.
This day, however, did not fall into that same category. Overwhelming it may be, he conceded, eyeing the sheer number of people in Malfoy Manor's main ballroom, but there was no lingering unease from today's events. No, it was his wedding day, and his mood had never been lighter. His gaze immediately found Narcissa—an absolute vision in white, though he never doubted it—over to the west side of the room, engaged in a conversation with his own father, whose demeanor surprisingly seemed to match his own. He supposed it wasn't too shocking; Abraxas had only managed to negotiate one of the most affluent Pureblood weddings of the decade. A Malfoy and a Black joining together was no small feat, which was why his vision was flooded with dress robes and silks of every design. The present journalists would have a fashion field day on the notable guests in their next respective issues.
With a tiny pop, a glass goblet appeared in his hand, filled close to the brim with elven wine. It was from the 1958 bottle in their cellars, he knew, but he hadn't seen which house elf had given him the drink. Turning his head to look behind him, his elbow went out a bit too wide, nudging the person next to him. In any other event, he wouldn't have cared, but he'd blame his next actions on his pleasant mood. "Ah, my mistake." He cleared his throat, bringing the goblet up to this lips for a small sip. Merlin, elven wine was always so strong. "Narcissa and I extend our gratitude for your presence today," he spoke in a rehearsed tone, having said the same sentence no less than fifty times in the last few hours, eyes finally meeting the person next to him.

While it was typical for the brides to be in charge of the wedding decisions, Lucius still felt a bit ashamed that he’d been so left out of the loop. It certainly wasn’t that he didn’t care, but he was busy, and Druella seemed to have a knack for keeping the process traditional. When Narcissa extended the invitation to be part of their flower arrangements, he’d been all too happy to say yes. Though he wasn’t exactly a flower connoisseur, Lucius was willing to hire Oz, especially if it made Narcissa happy.
Adjusting his cufflinks, he entered the shop, brightening at seeing Narcissa already inside. “Ah, it is actually. Thank you, love. You’re a vision yourself.” He kissed her briefly on the top of her head in greeting, and he felt his heart speed up a bit at their closeness. “Good to hear.” Lucius smiled a bit sheepishly, and he only hoped the girl behind the counter wasn’t witnessing it. “I do hope you haven’t been waiting too long.”

Where: Meaningful Blooms Who: Narcissa, Lucius, Oz
Narcissa had arrived early to Meaningful Blooms. She had wanted to scope out the shop before they met with Oz, and before Lucius arrived. Seeing the shop, she was more sure of her decision to have Oz do their flowers for the wedding, and she just hoped that Lucius agreed. Her mother was still not entirely thrilled with her decision, but it was her wedding, and she was ready to make sure her mother knew that. Having Lucius supporting her in this decision certainly helped.
She glanced up when she heard the bell over the door and smiled when she saw Lucius walk through. "Hello darling," she greeted, walking over to him to kiss his cheek. "You look rather dapper today. Is this new?" She questioned, glancing at his shirt. "I was just speaking with the shopgirl, but Oz should be ready to see us shortly."

He could tell she was distracted, but he wasn’t one to press her. Spending time with Narcissa was more than enough for him, and he was confident she’d tell him when she was ready. She’d been more herself during dinner with him and his parents, but on their walk through the grounds, she seemed to close back in on herself. A small part of him worried it was about him or even their impending marriage. Perhaps she was having second thoughts? If that were the case, Lucius wouldn’t mind being consulted, at the very least, though he’d also be willing to ease any fears she might have. He wanted this marriage, and he only hoped that she did, as well.
Steering their path toward the roaming peacocks, Lucius couldn’t help but glance down at Narcissa, who was staring ahead with an impenetrable expression. If he squinted, it would almost seem as if she were Occluding. What would grab her attention? He thought for a moment while watching the peacocks strut nearby. Clearing his throat, he linked his arm with hers, “and that’s how my father and I got to debating the merits of goblins running Gringotts.” He looked over at her again, fully knowing the topic had the potential to break her out of her trance.
“Terrible company?” His eyebrows raised, a chuckle escaping him. “Come now, love, we both know that’s not possible.” Allowing his words to hang between them for a few moments, he stopped walking, one of the peacocks coming dangerously close to them. Still staring forward, he took the plunge. “Are you feeling alright? You seem a bit distracted.” Turning away from the peacocks, he pivoted to face her, tilting his head down. “Sickle for your thoughts?”

Where: Malfoy Manor Gardens Who: Narcissa & Lucius @lucimalfoys
Narcissa had been distracted all through dinner with Lucius and his family. It had been a few days since that terrible day in the cafe with Bellatrix and Andromeda and she couldn't get Andromeda out of her mind. Narcissa had managed to repress all of the feelings that she had felt when Andromeda had left their family, and seeing her in that cafe had brought all of those emotions back up. Narcissa didn't deal with emotions. It wasn't the Black family way. Repress, ignore, forget. That was what they all did when terrible things happened to them. In recent years there have been plenty of horrible things to ignore and it had all started with Andromeda running off to marry that mudblood.
Andromeda's leaving had started the unraveling of their family. She was quite sure of that. Sirius followed suit, but he had always been a wildcard. And then Regulus...that one hurt more than Andromeda. And they had both run into her middle sister's arms, she was certain of that.
"Hm?" Narcissa glanced up when she realized Lucius was speaking. They had been taking an after-dinner stroll in the gardens, but she guiltily realized she hadn't heard a thing he had said. "I'm sorry, darling, I've been terrible company tonight.

As soon as Narcissa was finished with her conversation, he'd be asking for regular help with his Occlumency. He had very little recollection of who the witch was beside him, but when she'd spoken about the lights, Lucius was unable to hold his tongue. He could've minded his own business, turned up his nose at her and said what he thought in his own head.
But, no, he had to speak aloud, causing the woman to respond to him. As if this was supposed to be a conversation between peers. Yet he couldn't think that way anymore, at least not publicly. Had he just kept quiet, he wouldn't be in this predicament. Now he'd have to at least play nicely.
"I don't much think of Americans or their," he couldn't stop the sneer from forming, "independence." The word was foreign on his tongue, and he couldn't quite believe the topic they were discussing. Clenching his jaw almost painfully, he reminded himself that he needed to be convincing the other side of his innocence. This was meant to be a charade he'd have to continue for the rest of his life. "You speak as if you have experience. Did you attend Ilvermorny in the states?"
Tumblr media
Lucius Malfoy was someone that Dorcas had never met, but had certainly heard plenty about. He was marrying Sirius's cousin, and it seemed like the papers were obsessed with them. She couldn't quite understand it, as far as she could see Lucius Malfoy was a pompous man that had somehow gotten away with being a Death Eater. She didn't believe him and his father's lies that they had been forced into it. Dorcas didn't believe any of them that said it. And now the Ministry was releasing them? It was absurd!
As she glanced at the man in front of her, she briefly wondered if his manor had a dungeon. The thought made her want to vomit or run away but she wouldn't give them the satisfaction. Even though her trip had been good for her, a part of her blamed the people like him for sending her away.
"Sure," Dorcas finally said. "There's something beautiful about all the lanterns in the sky. It reminds me a little bit of the Americans and their celebrations for their independence. It's all very...colorful. It's pretty."

"Of course it is," Lucius agreed, albeit painfully, in an effort to quiet the unnervingly pleasant man. While most of their similar company were taught to remain stoic at all times, Evan never seemed to follow suit. Though he never showed any sort of weakness, he only ever radiated bliss. Infectious it was certainly not, but it did do the trick for him. "Oh, please, you've no idea what I have up my sleeve, Rosier. As if I'd call on any woman empty-handed, let alone my betrothed."
Despite Evan speaking vaguely, it was simple for Lucius to put two and two together. First there was Rabastan, and now Evan was speaking to him about certain... activities that were still ongoing. "And you think it prudent to discuss that here?" He asked casually, eyes flitting about the pub. "Perhaps save that for less," Lucius paused, taking joy in the dramatic effect, "savory establishments."
Tumblr media
“Now now now, my soon to be relative, there’s no crime in taking pleasure wherever one may find it; the world is a stage and the stage is world of entertainment.” Evan had long since mastered the art of finding ways to keep himself smiling, “Really? Without a bouquet of flowers in-hand?” He tutted and shook his head, sipping his firewhiskey, “White roses would be acceptable, or orchids if you wished too impress.” And Lucius should be taking every opportunity to impress.
“Why I was walking among the wonders of our society,” he said, spreading his arms grandly, “Meeting friends, old and new, ensuring all my dear acquaintances know how valued and special to me they are.” He sighed in pleasure, “And when one has such wonderful relations one picks up all sorts of excellent information.” His smile changed only slightly, and only for a moment, but it was enough to infer just what kind of information he’d been collecting.

Lucius felt a smile pulling at his lips once again and couldn't help but wonder how often Narcissa invoked such positive emotions in him. Before her, he would've never dreamed of being so vulnerable to a woman that he wasn't at least his wife. Sure, they were betrothed, but there was no real guarantee. It was different with her; she made him feel different. "My father adores you. Likely more than me, even," he declared with an exaggerated eye roll. "You have nothing to worry about."
A warm wave washed over him every time Narcissa would mention their wedding or their future together. He heard the stories—most pureblood marriages were unhappy, and the brides were miserable at the prospect of becoming tied down to a faithless sadist. Thankfully, that didn't match either of them. "That sounds like a brilliant idea, love. I'll back any charity of your choosing." Unable to stop the urge, he kissed her on the top of her head lightly. "I imagine every event you touch will end up becoming the most envied social invite of the year," he complimented, eyes staring into hers. If there was a photographer around, this would undoubtedly be part of the Prophet's festival coverage the following morning. "Ah, well," he waved her off, his smile morphing into more of a smirk, "my competition isn't too steep, it seems."
Tumblr media
Narcissa glanced up at him. "Oh, you don't have to do that, darling. I would hate to impede in your father's business." She was ready to marry Lucius, but she did feel a little bit of apprehension about how things would be with his family once they were married. It was easier with her family, she knew what was expected of her. But the Malfoys? Narcissa wasn't as comfortable with where she stood there. The saying was the devil you knew, right? Narcissa smiled when he brushed his lips against her cheek. "I know. I can't wait for the wedding. It's so soon. Finally."
She laughed. "I think that that sounds like a great compromise," she agreed. "A wing named after me. I think that sounds rather brilliant, don't you think? Perhaps I will have to start doing some charity work at the hospital to convince them to name a ward after me. Nothing dirty, of course, but I could be great at event planning." Narcissa worked with a few different charities, but she was always looking for other opportunities. It felt nice, the way that Lucius actually listened to what she had to say. She was used to keeping her thoughts to herself, rather than sharing them with others. It was one of the million reasons that she was grateful that Lucius would be her husband soon. "You don't have to say that just because she's my mother," she teased lightly. "But if you want me to tell her you said that I'm sure you would become her favorite son-in-law." Narcissa nodded. "I will send you a message once it's all set up," she promised.

He hummed in agreement, allowing his old friend's words to sit for a moment between the two of them. Severus betraying him had never truly crossed his mind before it had already happened. Though Lucius knew his roots, he figured he'd left it all behind, as well as a certain Gryffindor. Considering the way his friend was treated during his school years, Lucius never assumed he'd turn on their side. It hurt, to say the least. They might've lost the war in part to Snape's betrayal, yet a secret part of Lucius was almost grateful for it.
He believed in the cause wholeheartedly. That much was true. However, once he saw those he fought alongside thrown into Azkaban, or even killed, a side of him was grateful it had ended. Now his family was under suspicion, and he was working overtime for positive publicity. Lucius was meant to marry Cissa soon and eventually create the next line of Malfoys. How could that be if he and his family were in prison? The Malfoy name was not to be synonymous with common criminals. "You call them your lot now? After the way they treated you?" He asked lowly, genuinely curious.
Tumblr media
He wouldn't admit it - and especially not to Lucius himself - but he hated the distance and coldness between them. Severus knew he was mostly to blame, but still. He had valued Lucius' friendship at one point in his life. Now, that seemed like a very long time ago.
He stayed stock still as the other man took a step closer, glancing subtly over his shoulder before answering, just to make sure they weren't being eavesdropped on - an old habit. "Your lot see me as a traitor, and my lot..." He paused and sneered, not liking calling the Order his people. "Think me a liar."

CHARACTER INFO:
Character name: Lucius Abraxas Malfoy Age & Birthday: 27, December 27, 1954 Gender & Pronouns: Cis-male, he/him Occupation: Independently Wealthy (somehow still making money from the Malfoy Apothecary) Blood Status: Pureblood Previous House: Slytherin Previous Affiliation: Death Eater Face Claim: Austin Butler
Lucius is taken by Tara
BIOGRAPHY:
Born as the sole heir to the Malfoy name, Lucius has been doted on since birth. Though his relationship with his parents has left something to be desired, he’s always loved being a Malfoy. While at Hogwarts, he excelled at the subjects he deemed worthy and was a Chaser on the Slytherin Quidditch Team for five years. From a young age, he’d been betrothed to the youngest Black sister, who he spent quite a bit of time with during their school years. It might not be a choice they each made, but there were far worse options in his mind. As long as she didn’t follow Andromeda’s lead, he suspected Narcissa would be the perfect wife for him.
Upon graduation, he found himself plunged into his father’s circle of Death Eater friends. As was expected of him, he needed to take the Mark and join the cause–something that he was more than willing to do at the time. The growing inclusion of Muggle blood in their world troubled him, and, because he was Abraxas’s son, he very quickly became one of Voldemort's most trusted Death Eaters.
Unlike some of the others, Lucius didn’t entirely enjoy getting his hands dirty. At least not with violence. His main method of action involves using his wealth, influence, and connections to support Voldemort's cause. In his mind, lining the pockets of a Ministry official here and there is no cause for concern. During the War, he and his father were entrusted with keeping Voldemort’s Diary–now known as a Horcrux–safe. The thing is, and Lucius is perhaps too embarrassed to admit it, but he didn’t know exactly what the Diary was when they had it in their possession. He suspects his father knew the full story, but once Lucius knew the truth, he wasn’t exactly devastated when Severus swiped it from under him. Narcissa had been around it on more than one occasion, and he didn’t like the idea of his future wife falling prey to such a thing. Even if he believed in the cause.
As the tide began to turn against Voldemort, Lucius found himself in a precarious position. While he’s grown up with Pureblood supremacy at the forefront of his mind, he also knows the Malfoy name needs to remain unsullied. Above all, their family is meant to be one of the oldest and well-known families in their entire world. A member of the Sacred 28. They could never be seen on a losing side, especially if it involved prison time for him and his father. The Malfoys weren’t felons–they were practically Wizard Royalty. After all, their money and wealth could even be traced back to the Muggle Royal Family. They were simply held to a higher standard than some of the unsavory… beings who graced Voldemort’s ranks.
After Voldemort's defeat in January 1981, Lucius is left to navigate a world where his former allegiances are now dangerous. He must find a way to protect his family while maintaining his status in the wizarding community. Publicly, he distances himself from Voldemort's ideology, using his cunning and resources to reshape his image. Narrowly avoiding imprisonment, he’s stuck with the story that he was coerced into serving the Dark Lord. “Didn’t you hear? Abraxas and Lucius Malfoy claim they were under the Imperius the entire time. What a load of bollocks.” Privately, however, Lucius remains a complex character, grappling with his beliefs and the reality of a world without the Dark Lord’s influence. All that’s left is to quiet the discontented, marry Narcissa, and create the next Malfoy heir. Surely, it couldn’t be that difficult.

"She's more than capable," Lucius agreed, walking alongside him, "but a true gentleman takes care of his wife." Shooting him a mocking glare, he couldn't fight the smirk forming on his lips. "Surely you believe Cissa deserves that much?" They would jest like this often, and it felt natural to slip back into an old routine. "I'll be speaking with my father about it, but I do appreciate you looking out for her. I know how close the two of you are."
The flames grew more noticeable the closer they walked toward them, and Lucius felt a smidge of pride for what had been done. Even if he hadn't been apart of it himself, the mission was still important to him. The billowing smoke ahead of them reminded him that it might not be over, even if he needed to save face in public. "Mudbloods who have the gall to stand in our way deserve the end you've gifted them, Lestrange," he mumbled lowly, his familiar sneer forming on his face. "Walk me through your night, won't you?" He asked, a particularly menacing gleam in his eye. "It's been far too long since I've had that thrill you're referencing."
Tumblr media
Sitting beside Lucius as though this were an ordinary night, and not one in which he had exerted himself beyond fiendish measure, Rabastan also resumed his study of the smoke. It had started to take a vaguely sentient form, twisting this way and that to resemble moving, threatening creatures. It was just enough to indicate a cursed fire. But the billowing shapes remained vague and not noticeable to most.
"Cissa can look after herself. Don't look so worried, Malfoy." His eyes narrowing momentarily, he studied Lucius and noted his anxiety. There was no need to underestimate the youngest Black daughter. She had plenty of tricks up her sleeve and could deal with anyone intending to harm her rather well. "Some acquaintance of her father, I believe. I told her not to remain alone with him in future."
Getting to his feet, he joined Lucius and began to lead the way towards the sound of rising panic. The younger man's agreement had brought an edge to his expression; the glimmer of dull anticipation, growing steadily as he thought of how poorly those muggleborns were likely surviving.
"My evening has been better than expected," he told the other wizard, gesturing to the flames up ahead, now visible beyond a row of festival tents. "The ones caught in that fire have been hindering our case for Rodolphus. I'll admit I've had quite the entertaining night, finding worthy victims here and there. I think I needed this."

He was beginning to blame his interaction with Rabastan earlier in the night. While he wanted to regain his formerly pristine reputation, he still believed in the cause. It was a difficult part of him to shake. Naturally, he'd been planning to shed his skin publicly and keep his true thoughts close to his chest. Yet seeing Rabastan continue their goal without the Dark Lord, as well as the sheer multitude of filth that was allowed at the festival, something more sinister was stirring inside of him.
Lucius attempted to push it down, unwilling to ruin the progress he and his family had made since the end of the war. A jail cell was no place for a Malfoy, after all.
Narcissa was still off speaking to one of her friends, and he'd been left to his own devices. That gave him time during the light show to himself, and he was beginning to feel antsy. Peering through the crowd, Lucius caught a glimpse of her laughing, a bright smile on her face. Breathing out loudly through her nose, he resigned himself to stay patient. Bothering her now would simply be cruel.
Shifting his weight back and forth to each foot, he could feel the boredom sinking in. At the sound of a voice near his right elbow, he looked over to see a woman he didn't recognize. Likely someone who wasn't worthy of speaking to him then. "Oh, you really think so?"

When: Firefly Festival Where: Nighttime Ceremony Who: Dorcas & Open
Her time away from London and from everything that had happened had been good for her. Dorcas had spent the past several months traveling in America with her sister, spending time with extended family she hadn't had the chance to know, and healing from the terrible thing that had happened. Doe was going to be forever grateful to her younger sister for putting her life on pause to be with her. But it had been time to come home. She had thought that she was ready to be home.
But she wasn't so sure, now that she was at the Festival. Doe had told none of her friends that she was back home, she had wanted it to be a surprise, but now that she was there...she felt incredibly vulnerable in one of Marin's pink dresses that she had loaned to her for the night.
Dorcas had been spending the afternoon with her sister, admittedly avoiding her friends (although she would never actually admit it). Marin had stuck to her all day, but when they ran into some of her friends from school Doe had insisted that she go and spend some time with her friends and that she would be fine. But now that she was alone...she felt like she was being watched.
Casually looking around, she nearly jumped when she realized someone was standing near her. "Oh, I uh, didn't see you there. Nice festival," she tried to play it cool as they got closer to her.

“Hm, is that so? Your father tends to do business with the same people my family does. I’ll be sure that my father hears about this.” He nodded, as if assuring himself. Bringing her closer to him, he brushed his lips briefly against her cheek. “I swear no one will bother you once you’re my wife. I won’t stand for it.” He couldn’t help the smile flitting across his face, and he was sure his eyes were giving away far too much for any passerby. Still, they were to be married soon, and such trivial matters would be moot. Even a Malfoy man should be able to show affection to his betrothed.
“No, darling, of course,” he laughed lightly. “Should you require assistance from St. Mungo’s, then the wing you’d stay in would be named after you. How’s that?” He stayed attentive, listening to her speak. While his own parents held no true disdain for each other, they were still an arranged match. At best, they were good friends. Growing up, he figured that was how his future marriage would be. Somewhere along the way, though, things had drastically changed with Cissa. They were perfectly matched in every conceivable way and wanted the exact same things out of life. Even if they weren’t arranged, Lucius would’ve chosen her a hundred times over. “Druella usually has such sound advice, but I’d be happy to help with whatever needs planned. You don’t need to ask.” Leaning back a bit, he kept his smile in place, studying her. “Let me know when and where, love. I’ll be there.”
Tumblr media
"He's nobody important. Just a sad old man that wants to talk to a pretty woman for a few minutes," she rolled her eyes. "It must be so sad to be old like that. I think that he will be rather cross when I mention it to my father, though. He may find himself on the outs," she shrugged, looking up at him. "I'm alright. It was more annoying than anything else, you know?" Narcissa knew that it wouldn't matter in the long run that they had spent most of the day apart. Soon they would be married and they would spend the rest of their lives together. "Let's not talk about it anymore and just enjoy the rest of the night together. That's what truly matters."
"I don't know if I would go so far as to call Oz a blood traitor. Certainly not the likes of the Weasleys," she wrinkled her nose up in disgust. "Lucius if I ever suggest that we involve the Weasley's in our lives you have my full permission to send me to St. Mungo's because I am clearly unwell." If he didn't she was certain that her mother would, or Bellatrix. "It would be good for our image, though, and Oz would be grateful for tbe business. Mother's always said that it's good practice to help others. They're grateful for you and more willing to do favors for you," Narcissa shrugged. At his declaration, she smiled. "I would love to have the help. Mother has been driving me a little bit crazy so I would love the help to calm her down. I wanted to speak with you before I made the appointment but I will speak with Oz tomorrow and let you know."

Lucius hummed in agreement, taking the seat beside Rabastan. Brooding wasn't quite the word for his friend's overall aura. No, it was much more menacing than that. He was pained—typically, Lucius had no sympathy for those who put themselves into these situations, but the ending of the war was different. Had things gone awry, it could've been Lucius rotting in a cell alongside Rodolphus. Azkaban was no place for a pureblood heir. Smirking, Lucius glanced at the smoke in the distance, side-eyeing the man next to him. "Now that you mention it, I would like to see that," he admitted, standing up with an air of smugness. "You can tell me all about your evening."
He motioned for him to stand with but raised a concerned brow at his eyebrows. "That she is," he practically preened, "but do tell me about this older man. He didn't harm her, did he? Who was it?"
Tumblr media
'Lamenting' would have been a gross understatement. Rabastan was filled not with despair, but with perpetually anguished rage. Helplessness did not suit him. He was a man who was accustomed to ensuring his wishes, either through the merit of his own hard work or through the strength of savage force. The former was not proving successful nearly quickly enough; the latter was an option that he must restrain within himself. The injustice was repulsive. Far from being depressed, he was incandescently outraged.
At the mention of Selwyn, he quirked an eyebrow and lounged back against the bench, crossing one foot languidly over the other. "That man sends too many owls. He lacks efficiency. Do join me if you wish." Gesturing to the spot beside him, he faintly smiled. Not a moment later, however, the subtle curl morphed into a more lucid deviance. "Unless you would like to participate in something more practical? I have yet to see how those dirty-blooded creatures are faring in my fire. And Cissa is as charming as always, though you may wish to hurry with your marital affairs. She was being rather harassed by a ghastly older man. Not that it seemed to phase her all that much."

"Merlin, Dolohov," he groaned, fighting the urge to bury his head in his hands. Despite having similar beliefs, the two did not have as much as common as one would think. Lucius less preferred the nitty gritty of their work and took the reins with their mission's public image. While Dolohov would much rather be off cursing whoever they were hunting, Lucius was all the more willing to be skirting around with Ministry officials. He'd been meticulously attempting to take them down from the inside out when the war ended. That was why he had such a leg up in bettering his reputation than some of his fellow Death Eaters. He was well aware that his privilege was looked down on by some, but their grunt opinions meant nothing to him. "One drink, then I'm meeting Narcissa."
Tumblr media
"Sit, Malfoy." Antonin was adamant in his words, plopping down across from the blonde, instantly spotting him once he meandered inside to see who was inside that could use a little Dolohov touch. He wasn't expecting to see Lucius sitting at a table alone. Perhaps Narcissa finally came to her senses and realised she deserved better. He was teasing. It was fun to mess with the wizard.
"A drink, you wouldn't leave a dear friend alone." They were more acquainted by the cause they believed in. Perhaps a little more than that, but they supported the cause in two entirely different ways; Malfoy did the business, he did the brute work.

Lucius groaned as an irritatingly familiar voice slid into the chair across from him. "Rosier," he greeted, voice dripping with disdain. "Must you always take such joy in being an incorrigible pest?" He jested only slightly, though he held up his glass as a welcome. "In fact, I was heading out to go see that cousin of yours, but," he shrugged, eyes twinkling with mischief, "anything for family." He sipped from his drink, studying the man across from him. For being the only Rosier heir, Evan really should behave himself in a more appropriate manner. Though he was a few years younger than himself, that didn't mean he was exempt from their rules. It was simply time to grow up. At least, that's what Lucius believed. "What about you then? What were you doing out and about with your valuable time today?"
Tumblr media
Evan made a point to frequent pubs of all calibers to meet and greet the people within them. The Leaky was a hub of Wixen activity and a wonderful place to hear the most delightful of gossip. Stepping inside, several patrons recognised him, offering friendly waves and greetings that were just as enthusiastically returned, his ever-present smile on full display as he ordered several refills for some dear companions, including one for a brooding Lucius Malfoy in the corner.
He was served immediately (as was usually the way) and swiped both Firewhiskey’s from the bar before sliding into the seat opposite the blond. “Now really my dear friend,” he smiled over at him, “Is that any way to greet some-to-be family? What’s the rush? Sit and have a drink with me before galavanting off. That is,” he trailed a finger around the rim of his glass, “Unless you have other business to attend to?” The question was innocent, his expression charming, yet the effect still managed to be somewhat unnerving, it was a delivery he’d spent years perfecting, “Something more important then spending a little more of your valuable time here?”

"A business associate? Anyone I should be introduced to?" He joked, though he was sure he was already involved with them. Cygnus and Abraxas had been doing business together for years and ran in the same circle of friends. "I'm glad he was there to save you in my place. And you're alright?" Lucius knew the Lestranges had gotten the short end of the stick after the end of the war, and it was no wonder Rabastan had changed. Frankly, Lucius was more patient with him than he would be toward many others. "It's alright, love, we have the rest of the night together."
While Oz wouldn't have been his first choice as their wedding florist, he supposed he couldn't fight the decision. It would be making a bold statement of tolerance for the Malfoy and Black families—one that was sorely needed these days. "It would be charitable of us. A blood traitor could be useful for the image," he spoke lowly, "As long as we don't have to stoop as low to involve any Weasleys." Lucius couldn't fight the unwitting sneer that came from simply saying their surname. "I'll do many, many things to appease you, Cissa, but I'm not sure I can quite stomach that one." He offered her a kind smile, gently rubbing the small of her back again. "It's about time I involve myself more in our wedding planning, don't you think? Father's business meetings can wait." He leaned in a bit closer, making a personal note to cast a Silencio around them if the direction of their conversation should switch. "When is it? I'd love to accompany you."

Narcissa responded to him wrapping his arm around her by giving him a smile and leaning into his touch. She knew that their was a certain expectation of how much they touched in public, but she didn't mind showing off a little bit. They were to be married soon, after all.
"He came and rescued me from one of Father's business acquaintances," she explained lightly. But it wasn't a surprise that Lucius thought he seemed off. "He hasn't been the same since Rodolphus was arrested. And Rhysand's been gone too. I'm worried about him," she admitted, glancing up at Lucius. It wasn't often that she shared these kinds of thoughts, but she trusted Lucius. "I know it's been a hard year for him and his family." It had been a hard year for a lot of them, which was why she was hoping that their wedding would give some of them a reprieve or something to look forward to. It would be the event of the season, she was going to make sure of that. Narcissa laughed. "I would never ask you to debase yourself like that. But I appreciate the sentiment. The day would have been more enjoyable if I had been by your side all day. But we are together now, yes?" She smiled up at him. At his description, she scrunched up her nose. Narcissa couldn't quite say what it was that Lucius did during his day, she just imagined that he was rather busy with vague business dealings. "How distasteful. That sounds rather horrid, I so admire you for getting through that."
She waited patiently for Lucius to consider her suggestion. She thought that it would be a good business opportunity for Oz, and she hoped that Lucius would agree, but if he didn't she would look elsewhere. "That was what I was thinking as well. It would be rather charitable, don't you think? Helping a small business and a friend. It would look good for the papers." She knew that their would be plenty of press at their wedding, and it would be good for all of them. She smiled at Lucius, he was certainly in a playful mood tonight, it was sweet. "I know how busy you are, did you want to come to the appointment or do you want me to take care of it?" She questioned.
