it’s not that it overwrites it, it’s just that you constantly have to deal with The Bad Stuff if you’re in fandom bc even if it’s Objectively Bad it’s still canon so most of the fandom will still discuss it or include it in fan fic, even just to subvert it or negate it, so it’s almost Worse because you can’t escape it. Like a spectre looming over the story and characters

whereas being cancelled allows fans to enjoy infinite possibilities of where the characters and story could go without any of that baggage

Which is worse?

a show getting cancelled before they can fully explore their characters and plot

a show getting too many seasons and getting so bad to the point where the new plots completely ruin the show

#like I would’ve preferred OFMD getting cancelled than ever having seen S2 with my good eyes #bc now you literally can’t escape S2 even if most of the fandom doesn’t like it bc they’re all trying to rework it and rewrite it #and including all of the shit they added as part of the characters when doing fics or character studies #so like yeah WE PERSONALLY can just ‘not watch it’ and sure it ‘doesn’t negate what came before’#but it’s fucking impossible to ignore it or not engage with it if you’re part of the fandom of the show #ofmd s2 #ofmd critical
