There is something extremely sinister about a white cis man telling transmascs to check their privilege. in a cis-normative society, anyone who is trans is deemed "lesser" than the cis. "delusional" "perverted" "degenerate" are all words transphobes use to describe us to deem us as lesser for being true to our inner selves.

trans men, by a cis-normative society's standards, are not recognized as "real men" and therefore, we're not granted the priviledge of a non-queer white man unless we are also white, and have the money to transition quickly, change our legal documents, uproot our life and go stealth, which, again, is not easy, or it's something we don't want to do.

in some situations a trans man may have privilege over a cis woman because he is a man and she is a woman. in others a cis woman may have privilege over a trans man because she is cis and he is trans. both of these issues can coexist. not sure how you don't get it.

In a reblog of that post I do explain how trans men can sometimes have conditional social privileges when they are mistaken as cis men.

Trans men, however, do not have any systemic privilege for being trans men. This includes no systemic privilege over cis women whatsoever.

There is more nuance to feminism than just "men oppress women" and the existence and experiences of trans people proves this. I suggest reading intersectional and black feminist theory as this will help you delve deeper than just "trans men are men therefore they have male privilege", and I suggest you listen to trans men/mascs when we talk about our experiences instead of coming into our inboxes telling us what you think must be true. Do better.

People expected to be boys/men are expected to put it outward, by demeaning peers who are also expected to be boys/men for being "too feminine" and peers who are expected to be girls/women for not "feminine enough"

People expected to be girls/women internalize it but also push it outward, more to peers expected to be girls/women, specifically for not doing "girl/woman" enough.

And how does this relate to trans people? We often try to unlearn this if we learned it at all, or we mirror the way cis people of our true gender(s) externalize/internalize it.

the beggining of the post, i.e extension of patience and sympathy when transfems speak on their issues is imo good. nothingburger honestly. most of us, on either side of the trans coin, only ever have issue when someone rolls up and goes "nuh-uhh!" towards issues we face.

i think the "problematic" aspect of the post here stems from the whole "extra vulrnreable" and centering black and brown transfems as "mega vulnreable" because it's not just black and brown transfems, its black and brown trans people, and i thought salem, as a black trans man, would know that from experience? especially since black and brown trans men and mascs are erased even more than their white peers.
