THE JEDI AND HIS DUCHESS - CHAPTER 21
SUMMARY: The violence just keeps coming. Mandalore is not a safe place for anyone, but especially for Obi-Wan ;) In the words of Maul, “Welcome to my world.” Some sweet fluff followed by whump.
Thank you to everyone for sticking with me through this story. I know I leave you on cliff hangers way too often for way too long :( I truly ask your forgiveness. I wish I could write full time so I could bang the rest of this out. I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. If you’re still reading this story, you are my hero ❤️
I love the beginning of this chapter. It’s a particular favorite of mine. I hope you enjoy!
——————–
CHAPTER 21
Coruscant
Satine led the way into her suite of rooms without turning on the lights. Her personal guards took position in the foyer as she guided Obi-Wan down a corridor to her sitting room. She crossed through the shadows to a small kitchenette. “Make yourself at home,” she said. “I’ll put the kettle on.”
Obi-Wan moved toward a set of massive glass doors leading to the balcony. Coruscant’s orange glow spread across the carpeted floor, casting mottled patterns in the darkened room. He gazed out at the endless city, particularly at the Jedi template that sat in the very center of his view. Once again he was drowning in the middle of two disparate lives, caught between the Jedi and Satine. Would he be able keep his resolve? Could he get out of this without destroying everything and everyone he cared about?
He listened to Satine preparing tea, listened to the water boiling, the clinking of the china, the spoon stirring three times before the Duchess tapped it twice against the cup’s side. Obi-Wan smiled to himself. Some things never change.
She came to his side and pressed a mug into his hand. “I think you’ll like this. It’s a black leaf blended with a citrus oil.”
Obi-Wan breathed the fragrant steam, letting it clear his head. “Perfection.”
Satine clinked her mug against his. “To your health, Master Jedi.”
Kicking off her shoes, she pulled open the balcony door and stepped out into the night air.
Obi-Wan watched her, letting his austerity loosen. Perhaps it was the calm of her quiet apartment or the aromatic tea, but he decided to relax and allow himself a single moment to fantasize. He watched her lean against the balustrade as she sipped from her mug, her curves backlit by the city’s glow. She could have been my wife.
The moment passed quickly as he remembered Satine’s anger from all those years ago. He often neglected to think about the reasons why they had not ended up together. She would never have agreed to be his wife, not after what he’d done. It was a miracle that she’d forgiven him.
Fifteen years had passed since they’d been truly alone together. Even walking her home tonight, the Coruscant streets were never empty. But now, in her quarters, there would be no more interruptions.
He stepped through the door and joined her on the balcony.
——————–
Mandalore
Obi-Wan’s eyes slowly blinked open. He lay nestled in Satine’s arms, wrapped in a blanket on the floor near the fire. Though he wore only his undershirt and leggings, he felt warm and safe. His waterlogged clothes hung in the shower room, still wet with rain.
Something had roused him, perhaps a dream or Satine’s gentle sighing or the palace creaking; he wasn’t sure which. He twisted his head around and glanced out at the sky. Still dark. He was grateful that he hadn’t overslept. Soon he would have to dress and get back to his duties.
But for now, he would enjoy this brief comfort. Obi-Wan turned back to Satine and pulled her closer. She puffed gently as she nuzzled into him, still sound asleep. He kissed the corner of her mouth and held her against his chest. Burn this memory into your brain. Never forget it.
He hugged her for a long time, listening to their paired breathing. They had spent the night innocently enough, simply wrapped together, too damaged to do anything but hold each other. Obi-Wan felt this kind of intimacy was the most beautiful he’d ever known. But, as usual, reality broke the spell. He heard a clock chime two hours before sunrise. The time had come to resume his place on the balcony before the palace awoke. Kissing Satine once more, he pried himself free and tucked the blanket around her. Obi-Wan stretched, arching his arms over his head as he walked toward the shower room.
As he passed the balcony he stepped in several puddles, puddles that led toward the bed. Obi-Wan halted and turned slowly. When he entered out of the rain earlier that night, he had not walked into that part of the room. He looked at the glass door. It was unlocked. Did I lock it after I came in? He couldn’t recall.
Then he remembered. Something had awakened him. The click of the balcony door.
He turned just as an armored fist flew at his head. Kenobi blocked the blow in time to see a Mandalorian in full battle armor, including helmet and jetpack, lunge at him. The Jedi threw his palm into the attackers face, snapping the Mandalorian’s head back before kicking him in the gut, forcing his opponent away.

Last summer I took on a couple of commissions, and this tattoo design of Maul and Ahsoka is probably my favorite of them all! I had never designed a tattoo before, so this was a really cool, unique experience. Also, who doesn’t love more Maul and Ahsoka?? 😉 Please excuse the watermarks, I just don’t want these to be used without my permission 😁

I was tagged by @storytellingdreamer - thank you!!
Rules: List the first lines of your last 5-20 stories. See if there are any patterns. Choose your favourite opening line. Then tag 10 authors!
The Laws of Spectre Dynamics: “As a whole, the University of Lothal’s campus was undeniably beautiful.”
his worst nightmare: “Kanan was running.”
golden light: “The huddle of pilots disperses as you approach, leaving only the squadron leader standing on the landing platform.”
Faking It Official: “Welcome to Malthau, the galaxy’s bastion of traditional family values.”
A Rude Awakening: “The piercing alarm cut through her deep sleep and jolted Hera awake.”
Hear It In The Silence: “They’re standing in an otherwise empty storage container, waiting for the stormtroopers to move past them to the next hangar.”
Forging: “The Armorer stands at her forge, her hammer striking the white-hot metal with an almost musical ringing, over and over and over.”
Life Day Ghosts: “The Twi’lek people had come by the traditions of Life Day from the Wookiees, when the latter had come to the aid of Ryloth during dire circumstances.”
Life & Death: “The hallways were silent and empty as Bo-Katan raced down them.”
Civil War: “The palace in Keldabe truly was a sight to behold.”
The Warrior Rises: “It was the end of a long, difficult day when the news reached her.”
Mark of the Phoenix: “As a youngling, Caleb Dume had heard the legends of soulmate marks.”
I don’t think there are any patterns, though a lot of them start with the word ‘the’… Picking a favourite is hard, but I would probably choose Mark of the Phoenix because that would be the one I would most want to read (I can never get enough of the soulmates trope!).

Ahhhh my favourite has been updated!!! Can’t wait for the next chapter
THE JEDI AND HIS DUCHESS - Chapter 19
SUMMARY: As Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon get to work building Satine’s personal army, we meet an old Kryze family friend. Then we get some super fluffy soft Obitine adorableness.
At least you didn’t have to wait an entire year for this update :)
Just FYI, I’m announcing a big thing for Most Things Kenobi on May the 4th. Stay tuned for more details!
——————– CHAPTER 19
Mandalore
The Jedi immediately began work on building Satine’s personal praetorian. They spoke to military leaders, hoping to recruit the best of the best. At first, they hit roadblocks; though many Mandalorians were grateful for the Jedi’s protection of their Duchess, they were wary of working directly with the Force wielders. But Satine smoothed the way by reaching out to her family’s oldest friend, Baron Gorfod. Obi-Wan recognized him as the man who helped Satine escape Kalevala, the man who a year ago had escorted her to the landing platform and whispered, “stay alive” in her ear.
Gorfod was in his mid-sixties, dignified looking with graying hair, a precise beard, and peculiar lavender-colored eyes. When he first arrived, the energy in the air seemed to crackle to life. He burst into Satine’s receiving hall with a personal retinue of no less than ten men. Letting out a boisterous laugh, Gorfod marched across the room and embraced Satine like she was his daughter. “You’re home,” he said warmly. “Su cuy'gar.” She smiled, kissing his cheek before he stepped back and bowed formally. “Welcome home, my lady.”
Amongst his retinue were three of his grown sons, each the spitting image of their father, right down to the color of their eyes. They all had military backgrounds and set to work helping the Jedi recruit potential bodyguards. Obi-Wan worked closely with the sons, planning the physical trials each praetorian recruit would face, while Qui-Gon worked with Gorfod on diplomacy and establishing a timeline so the guards would be in place before Satine’s coronation.
Qui-Gon liked Gorfod. The baron brooked no fools and clearly garnered respect everywhere he went; he was always smiling, ready to enjoy all that life offered, whether it be food, friendship, or philosophy.
“You must have had a terrible time of it,” the baron said to the Jedi Master one afternoon. “Your Padawan has scars on his face I don’t remember seeing when we first met.”
“I won’t deny that we faced many hardships,” Qui-Gon said diplomatically. “We were met with brutality at nearly every turn.” The men watched the younger Jedi from across the room as Kenobi worked with Gorfod’s sons. Qui-Gon crossed his arms over his chest and lowered his tone. “Obi-Wan bore the brunt of the stress. In truth, he’s lucky to still be alive.”
“Watching our boys suffer is agony, isn’t it?” Gorfod commiserated. “I know Kenobi’s not your son, but he’s as good as. My youngest suffered greatly. Seeing violence can change a boy. This war has taken its toll on so many lives.”

LIKE MY FATHER BEFORE ME
HELLO FRIENDS!
I have something exciting to share with you! My very best friend in the world is writing a fantastic Luke Skywalker fic. It’s called Like My Father Before Me. You can read it on AO3 or on fanfiction.net. Here are the links for you:
READ IT ON AO3
READ IT ON FANFICTION.NET
It takes place after Return of the Jedi and follows Luke on a journey of self-discovery. He tries to find out more about Anakin Skywalker by journeying to places that were significant during the Clone Wars. And he meets a mysterious lady along the way.
I’m loving this fic!! It is the Luke Skywalker we all deserve. Not the cranky defeated, miserable Luke from The Last Jedi. My friend has developed a much more interesting explanation for Rey’s parentage than we were given in Rise of Skywalker. If you love Luke Skywalker as I do, I highly recommend you check out this fic. It’s the perfect blend of original trilogy Luke and Mandalorian Luke. And if you’re an Anakin Skywalker fan, it pays him beautiful homage.

Had my notifications on waiting for this one, I’ve waited so long and this return chapter is definitely showing it’s worth it🥺🥺
THE JEDI AND HIS DUCHESS - Chapter 18
SUMMARY: Returning to Kalevala, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon don’t know whom to trust as Satine angles for her court’s respect. There may or may not be some shirtless Obi-Wan wearing a towel…..
OK….so I’ve been MIA for quite some time and I apologize. The very fact that anyone has stuck with this story for 3.5 years just blows my mind. To any and every one who has read even a single word of this fic, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. As I ramp back up to finish this story, I promise I am working very hard to give you an ending worthy of your time and attention.
This week marks the 4 year anniversary of starting my blog, Most Things Kenobi. (You can also find me on Instagram.) As a celebration of this milestone, I give you the next chapter in this overdrawn fic. I feel a bit sad that this is a bridge chapter that connects us to the next act in the story. I had hoped to offer you something better…but we’re transitioning. I promise more adventure is on its way!!
Hope you enjoy!

CHAPTER 18
Draboon
A transport was scheduled to come for them a day and a half later in the lower flats of the western mountains. Ygraine and the seven healers, along with nearly all the rest of the temple came to the docks to wave goodbye as The Keeper and Lamorak rowed the three travelers away from Valon. As they passed through the Force shield and the island disappeared, Satine felt a heaviness in her heart. “Will I ever be able to repay their kindness?” she quietly asked Qui-Gon.
The Jedi tucked his arm around her and squeezed her shoulders. “You may not be able to repay them directly, but you can pass on their kindness and hospitality to others.”
After a long day’s walk the three of them spent their last night sleeping outside around a fire. Obi-Wan and Satine secretly held hands as they slept.
In truth it was no secret.
The firelight was bright enough for Qui-Gon to see their intertwined fingers. He felt a pang in his heart. This can’t go on much longer.
The next afternoon a transport arrived with a team of soldiers. “We’re here for your protection,” the sergeant informed Satine.
“I thank you.” She nodded in agreement before gesturing to Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan. “But I want it understood that the Jedi will remain my personal bodyguards until further notice.”
“As you wish.”
They boarded the transport and began the journey back to Kalevala. There was no shortage of conversation; the sergeant and his soldiers openly discussed the war and the current state of affairs with the trio, occasionally asking what their experience had been like on Draboon.
Finally, they entered Mandalorian air space and began their descent into the atmosphere.
“It’s all wrong,” Satine whispered as she stared out the window.
“What is?” Obi-Wan whispered back.
“The color. The planet looks sick and putrid rather than bright and beautiful.”
“Mining,” one of the soldiers sitting nearby interjected.
“Pardon?” Satine replied, her eyes wide with concern.
“Mines for raw ore. For the war effort.”
The ship continued its descent. After spending nearly a year away, Obi-Wan feared the shocks were only going to get worse for Satine.
He was right. The land had been stripped; nothing but blackened rocks and blasted plains remained. The Duchess could hardly breathe as she looked at the world she had loved, now turned into a barren wasteland. “Oh, Obi,” she choked as she blinked back tears, refusing to let herself cry.
He wished he could hold her hand.
The transport set down on the outer docks, not far from the platform where Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan first met Satine. As the group disembarked, a party gathered to meet them. The prime minister stepped forward and dropped to one knee along with the entire retinue. “Lady Satine,” he said, formally placing his hand on his heart. “We welcome home our true Duchess.”

I am sooo excited, I’ve been checking every day
Hi! I read your fic the jedi and his duchess and it's sooo good. How good is it? The longest fic I have ever had the patience to read before, was at most 9000 words!
Since I came this far i was wondering if you're still planning on updating it?
Hello there!! First of all, let me say I totally understand. I also don't have the patience for fics that are extremely long unless they are really good. So it is a high compliment indeed you pay me!!!!! Thank you!
And to answer your question, yes!!!! I am almost finished writing it and I intend to begin posting the rest of the story very soon. I'm so happy you like it 🙌🙌🙌 I can't wait to be done with it. It's been an intense labor of love.
Thanks for your message and for your very kind compliments. I truly appreciate you!!

Seeing as the pre-production for the Disney+ show Obi-Wan Kenobi started already, I decided to make a Discord server for all the creators that plan to make content for the show or for anyone who just wants to scream about this in a group setting.
Overall, if you like Star Wars, Obi-Wan, Ewan McGregor, you’re in the right place and you have to join us.
Server will contain all sorts of topics which means it’s strictly for people above the age of eighteen. We can’t know if you lie about your age, but please don’t put us in a comfortable spot by joining if you’re a minor.
If you’d be interested in joining, please reblog this post & I’ll contact you!

.... what if Han Solo is secretly a Kenobi descendant somehow? I don't know how that would work, AT ALL, but it would explain his penchant for chasing after the Skywalker twins!
LOL. Please understand how hilarious this is considering their interactions in A New Hope. Like, even if Han is just Obi-Wan’s distant nephew or something, I’m laughing. HAN IS SO UNIMPRESSED WITH HIM, who is this dumb old man, blahblahblah. Honestly, I think this is a point in the “Han is totally a Kenobi” column, because the only person I’d buy being that unimpressed with Obi-Wan is Obi-Wan himself.
Perhaps there was more to Obi-Wan’s deeply entertaining facial reactions in the cantina scene, because he’d figured out what’s up:
This would, of course, also explain why Leia wanted to get in Han’s pants and why Luke was like GOLLY HAN YOU SHOULD STAY WITH US FOREVER DON’T EVER LEAVE ME after knowing him for one single afternoon. 😄
