Dostoesvky’s Demons actual demons AU
Hear me out Demons but you wipe out the political stuff (lol) and Pyotr's group of 5 is actually a cult, literal demon cult.
I don't know how exactly I just think it sounds neat and cool for the halloween season....Shatov is the human sacrifice the cult needs (typical virgin pure of heart sacrifice amiright) and it could be a classic monkey's paw scenario where Pyotr doesn't really believe it will work and just wanna kill Shatov for personal reasons (like in the book) but there is an actual summoning and actual occult forces at stake. I don't know how the stavrogin thing takes place I guess he could need Stavrogin to be a (real or not) vessel/gate for something and only him could be that vessel/gate according to Pyotr.
Dostoesvky said ideology is like demonic possesion and I sh*t on his work and say what if the ideology is demonic possesion.....

Honestly Demons 2014 is funny the actors are all really good as their characters and some of the scenes are nice and cool but it does such a bad job at capturing the book overall tbh....the 5 years later bit like oh my god what is you doing Dostoevsky don't look......(+ some of the storylines twists and cuts don't make any sense, like I get that it's not supposed to be just like the book of course but as an adaptation it's kind of disappointing in capturing the vibes™). It's really saved by the fact that all of the actors are nailing the characters.
The CGI butterfly will always haunt me tho 🦋

I haven't seen this anywhere but I'm 99% sure Dostoevsky intended for Pyotr to be seen as homosexual for the reader and it's not just subtext it's literally text at this point.
Has no female love interest past or present (and unlike Kirillov he is not reclude from society and mundane stuff, he's not philosophical.), the rumour about him and Ioulia is dismissed by the narrator, his speech to Stavrogin mimics a love confession (literally the sun and worm thing is like the love confession in Victor Hugo's Ruy Blas with the star and the worm) + he constantly tries to touch him, at the end of the book when he takes the train it's with a young man described as delicate + Erkel wishing he had held his hand longer before he left. (can't quote the exact book moments my book's in french but u get it)
So I'm honestly sure it's intentional and not subtext, Dostoevsky didn't mean it in a positive way of course but like '' lol look at this dumb nihilist not only is he mean and an atheist but he's also a f*g lmao".
Weirdly when you look it up there's no like article/thinkpiece about it which is weird caus' there are a lot of articles about Demons and sexuality but none of them mention this.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk. 👹

“Stavrogin, you are beautiful,” cried Pyotr Stepanovitch, almost ecstatically. “I love beauty. I am a nihilist, but I love beauty. Are nihilists incapable of loving beauty? It’s only idols they dislike, but i love an idol. You are my idol!”
