5/29/25 URGENT ⚠️

I can't put this off any longer. I'm a parent with chronic pain struggling to support my family. Last month we were told unless we could pay our electric in full, we would get shut off.

I've been doing all I can just to make rent and we CANNOT catch up! The stress is eating me alive.. We're set to be shut off on the 2nd.

Alrighty, people. So, while I had my little week of silence, I got those 2 asks from presumably Naegami fans due to my posts.

Now, the thing is, I haven’t received any more messages like that, even though I have made another post about criticising Naegami, so either they haven’t seen that or just blocked me.

Either way, it means I’m safe to making more posts about it! Just joking- there’s like only 2 more posts about that and then I’m done unless I get more asks about it.

And one of these 2 will be this post. But really, Naegami will be used as an example for a bigger problem. As for what that problem is?

Well, as you guys might know I love making analyses about characters. And what I’ve noticed is that if you go analyse a character with a ship centric view, you get a very narrow view of that character.

And that is something I have seen happen to both Byakuya and Makoto in relation to Naegami. Rn, I’ll just mostly talk about Byakuya since that’s the one I know more about that.

But what I mean with this is that a ship is simply only a small part of a character. And no matter what you do, it will fall into tropes, with, say, how longer the fic goes on, the more trope-y it gets… until it’s really not the character anymore.

With Byakuya for example, people tend to ignore his actions or make them revolve around Naegami, AKA relate them back to Makoto, even when that’s clearly not the case. I think I’ve seen multiple cases of people interpreting Byakuya messing with Chihiro’s body to get Makoto’s attention when that… simply couldn’t be more wrong.

And that isn’t the only example. There are a lot I could name, but that would take… long. Too long. What I’m trying to say here is that you can never look at a character with another character in mind, not when that isn’t the case. There are some characters that mostly just exist for a certain character, but even then, I don’t think you should.

Because in the end, a relationship is never somebody’s whole life. But when you start analysing a character like that is the case you get a very narrow view of them. You start to dig a hole of mischaracterization, one that will only get deeper until you have a solidified view of Byakuya, in this example, that goes against things he has said and done in canon.

So, yeah. That. I honestly feel like that most people tend to make romance like… way too big of a focus. And I don’t mean that in a ‘only posting ship fanart way’ but more what I mentioned in this post. It would be as if I were to make a 100K+ fic just about a developing friendship between Kyoko & Byakuya and nothing else really, that just… doesn’t work.

Oh, and one more thing! While you can obviously send me any Byakuya related asks as always, I will be doing a 4 part analysis about him soon! Each part will cover a different part of his life, so keep your eyes open for that!
