Doctor Who Rewatch Spread

I was inspired by someone’s dw journal spread (if I can find them I will tag them) to make my own in preparation of my rewatch. I only need to get over the finale before doing so….

Kind of intimidating to post something like this on here, but honestly this blog went to private reblogs of some of my favourite posts, to posting a scene from a freaking marvel show (shoutout wandavision) to posting more and more scenes from films and tv shows, to posting my art (that’s still so scary ngl) to posting a tv show related rant. The day I find the courage to post every single one of my dumb rants about series and films, it’s over.

Disclaimer: there is no Doctor that I don’t like, and there is no companion that I don’t like. There are some Doctors I like less, and some companion I find a bit boring, but there is nobody I outright hate or dislike.

Yesterday I saw the video from a couple of years ago of Christopher Eccleston saying that one of the next doctors should be played by Billie Piper. And if you liked the final episode or not, if you’re excited about that regeneration, if you agree with him, or if you hate it all, I don’t care. Not my point.

There was a comment that said “it makes sense that he would regenerate into Rose because she is the last person the Doctor loved.”

And it’s been bugging me so much.

Because you can’t watch this show and seriously believe that Rose Tyler, from seasons one and two, is the last person the Doctor, now on season 16 (technically), loved. You can love her how much you want and prefer her relationship with the Doctor over all the others, I’m not here to politic how you like a character, but you can’t morph a show into your own version losing its greatness.

Even if you don’t ship them, you can’t deny that the Doctor loved River. And Clara. And Yaz. And Martha and Donna, Amy and Rory, Bill, Ryan and Graham, Ruby and Belinda. Jenny. The various Masters.

The Doctor loves so much. That’s the point.

They love people and lose people and don’t always deal with the grief in a healthy way. Sometimes they spend decades on a cloud in Victorian England, other times they go through a confession dial for 4.5 billion years. They run away. They cry, scream, get themselves killed. And they do this because they love. With all their hearts.

And it’s such a disservice to the Doctor to reduce all of their love to one character that yes, they loved very much, but that is gone and has been gone for 15 years.

The showrunner is David Tennant. You hear a knock on the door. It's David Tennant. He gives you a pocket watch. You open it and remember who you are. You were David Tennant all along.
