         It’s easy to forget that life exists beyond the flame that forged them. It’s so easy to forget that even the blood of Thanatos can feel the effects of over burn. Yuri stares at the piece of paper work without truly being able to see it. It’s kind of difficult admittedly to see the words when you have not slept in almost 30 hours but taking care of himself has never really been Yuri’s real strong suit. He’s far better at taking care of others than himself.

         Perhaps it is all too easy to saw the obstacles in the way of his path to righteousness and instead of learning how to move past them, he simply burned his way through them without a second thought to place to rest his eyes. He leans back his eyes shut a desire of rest seeping through his veins. He has to stay awake, he’s expecting the crusher to appear so he could deliver the news about his latest fine. Instead he rests.

  shouto is nothing if not cautious, and he’s certain he did fine aside from… y’know, failing the supervisors have nothing but good things to say about him, about how he of all people couldn’t have passed, and they’re certain that he’ll pass next time.

 it’s not a question of skill. shouto knows his limits, knows how far he can push himself, and it’s pretty far. he knows he’s skilled. it’s his mindset that’s the problem, but trying to get out of it is like climbing out of quicksand, despite everything. it’s one thing to know you need to change, and another to know where to begin. 

 so he’s something like full of fear when he receives a summons to the examiner’s office. perhaps his father decided he wasn’t good enough, and is going to start doing private sessions with him again. the thought makes his skin crawl. maybe he’s got cocky and he’s not going to pass. the thought of that makes something sad and empty sink heavy over his heart.

 his hand certainly isn’t shaking when he knocks on the door. that would be silly. and illogical. he’s sure he just left something behind. yes.

             Yuri stays in his seat, his shoulders back a little bit. He’s spent so much time interacting with the hero commission and people in his court room, he’s learned how the absolutely necessity it is keep his posture calm and inviting when he speaks to teenagers. Even stand out ones that he is fairly certain that people have already started treating like adults despite obviously still being children.

              The first thing of note about the boy standing in his door way is that he’s incredibly tense. That’s not exactly unexpected he is one of the major fixtures of the examination process, though he’s not sure if that information would have trickled it’s way down into the actual examinees involved in this process. Unless his teacher, Aizawa had informed him of it and judging by the surprised reactions to the Annul Crushing of UA, he’s not sure that Aizawa would be willing to do that.

                Yuri is pretty deeply involved in this process. The provisional exam is a pass fail process, very simple. Technically he’s supposed to be evaluating who’s physically prepared to be a hero. Though that’s never really worked for him. It had taken a great deal of throwing his weight around for years before he could actually get this started. For the most part he’s trying to pick out people who are clearly not ready to be taking this test. 

                   His coworkers had their hands full processing the licenses for passing grades, but he’s pouring over the test footage to look for people who need extra care. If he depending on the results he’ll set up a meeting with the child with the permission of their teacher. But even before the test footage, Shouto Todoroki stood out among the rest. Call him a bleeding heart but when he watched the sports festival even though he could not hear what Shouto had to say, his eyes traveled to that scar. The hesitance to which he used his powers. Perhaps he’s projecting his problems on the boy, but he remembers being sixteen and he’s not sure he’s willing to pass up checking on him.

                   So he watches the test footage with a critical eye as he waits for Shouto to answer the summons to his office.
