Time To Dance : Chapter One
Elias "Stack" Moore x OC; Sammie x Pearline x OC
Warnings: Spoilers for the movie! Both OCs are Black obviously. Canon Typical Racism and Violence. Slight religion bashing. Self indulgent "fix-it" fic. Potential grammar and proof-reading mistakes.
Chapter Summary: Donna (OC) and Bella (OC) blow into town and meet some interesting people.
Word Count: 8,204 (a lot of dialogue!)
(Yeah I know that's Smoke in that gif but ssshh!)
Tumblr media
"C'mon now, it ain't too far until we reach the town." Donna nudged the young woman sitting behind her. "Look alive."
The young woman let out an unladylike snort at that comment, but obliged at the elder's words. She wiped the drool from her nap off of her face. Donna was always in control and sturdy in the saddle so she made a nice makeshift bedroll.
"What you laughin' at, lil lady? You tickled, Bella?" She threw a look over her shoulder.
"Nope." Bella refused to give her the satisfaction. "Where are we goin' anyway?"
"We're looking for a party here. We in Mississippi now."
Bella hummed in response. That's just what they needed about now. Somewhere to let loose and get away from their responsibilities. They journeyed the rest of the way into town in a comfortable silence. Bella busied herself by taking in the interesting sights.
Back home, black folks had their own places for business, but it looks like in Mississippi they split the land. One side for whites and the other for blacks. A rumbling started in her stomach and it wasn't just because they hadn't had a hot meal in a while. Donna guided the horse to a hitching post and helped Bella get down.
"Stay over here where we at. Don't go crossin' any lines you shouldn't." Donna said.
The two of them went into the general store. Bella's the picky one, but Donna'll eat any ole thing. Donna gave Bella the go ahead to pick out whatever food she wanted. She dropped the armful of groceries on the counter.
"Will that be all for you?" An even yet unenthused voice came from the young girl behind the counter.
Bella opened her mouth, but Donna cut in, "'Scuse me, little Miss. How much y'all sellin' that jerky for?"
"I'm sorry, it's not for sale. Another customer has a hold on it." She replied.
"Oh really?" At the "yes" Donna received, she continued. "Is one of your parents around or somethin'?"
"Daddy!" Little Miss wasn't bothered by the question, she must get it a lot. Bella sighed.
"Yes, Lisa?" He must have understood the blank look little Miss Lisa gave him. "Right, y'all ladies need help with anything?"
Donna made a noise of agreement, "We do, Mister…."
"Chow." He supplied. "Bo Chow, Ma'am."
"Mister Chow. And please don't tell me there's a Mrs. Chow and break my heart." Bella choked down her laughter while Lisa raised an eyebrow. "Was wondering if y'all could part with that there jerky. I heard from your… little sister?"
Mr. Bo Chow let out a chuckle at that, "No, Ma'am. This here's my daughter, Lisa."
"No! Really?" He nodded. "But you look so young!"
He smiled and laughed once more. "It's true. Me and Mrs. Chow raised an amazing daughter."
At this, Donna pouted. Bella tried not to howl with laughter.
"Mm, I bet. Very polite young girl." Mr. Chow seemed pleased. "Back to what I was saying, Mr. Chow. Miss Lisa told us that that there jerky is reserved for someone else?"
"That's right, Ms…?"
"Williams. Ms. Donna Williams. Over there is Bella Williams." She shook his offered hand. "I'd pay you well for it."
"Oh?" He seemed intrigued. Suddenly the exclusive jerky was almost in her hands. "How much?"
Miss Lisa didn't like that. "Daddy."
"Go on and get your mother." Bella got out of her way as Lisa came round the counter.
With Lisa out of earshot and Bella pretending to look at something else, Donna got a little closer to him and flashed a twenty at him. His eyebrows could have reached his hairline.
"Now, Mr. Chow. I doubt whoever got that on hold can show you this kinda money." He looked ready to jump at the offer, but quieted himself.
"That not good enough? I'll bet you for it?" His eyes brightened at the prospect of a gamble. If there was anything other than his wife he couldn't say no to, it was a gamble.
He held his hand out. "You're on."
"On what?" Lisa came back with her mother and Mrs. Chow didn't look impressed. "Hello, Ma'am."
Mr. Chow quickly situated his hand into his head of jet black hair in an attempt to look nonchalant. "On the right track to getting that jerky."
"I'm sorry, Ma'am. It's reserved."
Mr. Chow went to his wife's side to whisper in her ear, "Grace. She's got twenty dollars for it."
"I'll let you have the lot of it for twenty-five."
"Twenty-five?! Just how special is this jerky?" Bella couldn't help herself. "That's robbery."
"That's what I'll sell it for." Grace countered as she looked back at Donna, who clearly controlled the money here.
Donna blinked. "Twenty-two."
"Twenty-two and fifty cents."
"That much? It ain't even jerked all the way?" Mr. Chow blabbed.
"Oh really," Grace tossed her husband a glare. "If it ain't jerkied all the way then I'll offer ten for it."
"Fifteen." The others looked back and forth as Donna and Grace volleyed off of one another.
"Thirteen and throw in that lil charm Bella's lookin' at." Donna nodded over to her.
"Huh?"
"Deal." That was as good as she was gonna get thanks to Bo.
"Pleasure doin' biz with ya Chows. Y'all have a good day now." Donna gave a curtsy and picked up her package. "C'mon, Bella."
"Right. See y'all." Bella took the bag from Lisa.
The women left as Grace gave Bo a good smack on the arm. Donna packed up the side saddle with their supplies when someone called out to them. A man who strangely reminded Donna of those gem colored birds. What was their name? Somethin' silly, probably. The women stood next to their horse as he approached.
"Y'all ladies some sharks, huh?" He gave them a gold tooth smile.
"Do what now?" Donna asked at the same time Bella said. "That's all my older, unmarried sister."
Donna dug her elbow into Bella's ribs for that comment. Damn child. The man gave her a once-over at that. Another irritatingly attractive gleam of his gold fang teeth showed.
"She's just kiddin'." Donna glared at Bella. "I'm her Auntie."
"Hey, Auntie." Bella giggled and Donna would smack her for it later.
"You know, I ain't ever seen anyone negotiate like that with Ms. Grace other than my brother."
"Oh really? Delighted to be in good company then. What's your brother's name?" Donna had to crane her neck to look at him.
"Smoke."
"Smoke?" Donna and Bella exchanged a glance. "Smoke like…"
"Stack." He answered.
"Who is Stack?" Bella scratched her head.
He grabbed her outstretched hand. "You lookin' at 'im."
"Your name is Stack?"
Donna raised an eyebrow. Mississippi was definitely something else. That can't be his real name, right?
She snatched her hand back. "What your wife call you?"
"I ain't married."
"I'm Donna." She put her hand back in his. "She's Bella."
"Y'all ain't from 'round here are you?" The women shook their heads no.
"Well then, I'll introduce myself. My name is Stack of The SmokeStack Twins. Me and my brother own a little club and I hope to see you ladies there."
"What kinda club?" Bella inquired.
"A juke, lil Miss." Stack offered. "For music and dancin'. There'll be food, of course. Seein' as you take yo food seriously."
He must have been in the store, but how did Bella and especially Donna for that matter ignore such a man?
"Seems like you know how to get a woman's attention." Donna said.
Stack looked a little too pleased with himself. "I won't deny it. I know what I'm doin'."
"Mmm. We'll see 'bout that won't we." Bella looked like she was gonna squeal at any second. "Where is this juke, Mr. Stack?"
"The old sawmill, y'all seen it?" He continued. "Should have been a truck outside it."
"That mill ain't no juke. Don't look like anyone's been in it in a while." Donna huffed.
Stack leaned down closer to Donna's height and Bella held back pushing them into each other.
"Show up tonight and I'll show you otherwise, Ms. Donna." His eyes wandered from her eyes down to her lips.
Donna turned her head and thank every higher power that she couldn't blush. She helped Bella onto the back of the horse. Stack watched.
"I wouldn't bet on it, Mr. Stack." She unhitched the horse and got on.
"Bet on that horse." He goaded.
"Haha! There ain't no way in Hell, Stack!" Donna smirked. "This here stallion is one of a kind."
With a kick, the women were off and Stack couldn't wait until tonight.
"I'll be seein' you, Ms Donna."

Time To Dance : Prologue
Elias "Stack" Moore x OC; Sammie x Pearline x OC
Warnings: Spoilers for the movie! Both OCs are Black obviously. Canon Typical Racism and Violence. Slight religion bashing. Self indulgent "fix-it" fic.
Chapter Summary: The Sun do shine.
Word Count: 1,540
Don't you see I'm the narrator, and this is just the prologue? (The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide Is Press Coverage, Panic! at the Disco, 2005)
Tumblr media
Goddamn, she was dripping with blood. She used her shirt to wipe away some red from her eyes. There were dozens of bodies on the ground. Plenty of ash mixing in with the dirt. The Sun was high in the sky now. She basked in its warm healing glow as a she put her cigarette back to her lips.
"Olly olly oxen free!!" She hollered and waited for the telltale sound of the locks in the juke joint.
Only a small amount of the juke joint guests lived to see this morning. They spilled outside and took a gander at the devastation. There was so much dust from the vampires and blood from the pigs. She was sitting pretty like she'd invited them out to enjoy a pleasant Summer day. They whispered to each other about the carnage, as if she couldn't hear every word. A woman stepped forward.
"Donna, thank God, are you okay??"
"'M alright. Thank you." Donna took another drag of her cigarette. "Think I should be askin' y'all that. Y'all the ones packed up like sardines in there."
"As fine as we can be…" She trailed off. "Who the hell are all these white folks?"
"Reckon he and his buddies wanted to kill all us." She tossed his patch toward the group so they could see.
Him and his was Klan.
She didn't take too kindly to that.
"Don't you worry none. I really got him to spill his guts." She cackled loudly at that.
Everyone could see the blood staining her teeth. She stretched her hands to the sky and let out a grunt as she heaved herself up.
"I know I just ate and everything, but y'all think we still have some catfish?"

Time To Dance Masterlist
Elias "Stack" Moore x OC; Sammie x Pearline x OC
Summary: They'll find a party no matter where it's at, but this time they might have underestimated how volatile the Delta is.
Warnings: Spoilers for the movie! Both OCs are Black obviously. Canon/Period Typical Racism and Violence. Slight religion bashing. Self indulgent "fix-it" fic. This is my first fanfiction in damn near a decade; I am very rusty.
