thinking more and more about jgs and his motives: getting his dick wet and political power. he lives a hedonistic lifestyle but lets take it back a few. he has either siblings or cousins who could have been sect leader jin themselves. either he was lucky in his birth status or fought to be named heir—we don’t particularly know shit about it. it doesn’t really matter which. the only way for him to be leader is for enough people in power to agree. whether it’s a case of his dad shrugging his shoulders and letting his firstborn inherit or if he paid off enough elders to support him or otherwise.

i don’t claim to have any fucking idea when he started sleeping around, but he’s not reckless with his bids for power. see: allowing jzx to fight in the sunshot campaign but not mobilizing forces himself so the jin sect doesn’t face repercussions no matter who wins. having bastards older than a legitimate son before becoming sect leader could make sect elders prefer a more modest sibling/cousin, firstborn rights or not. so i think as he starts visiting brothels he pulls out. and when he gains the title of sect leader, he becomes less worried about it. he still marries and has a legitimate heir but his faithlessness becomes more reckless with each day and eventually jgy is born on the same day as jzx

taking a silly spin on this i think chengyao should have a casual relationship here. uncles w split custody over jl who get along well enough. mayb they hook up once or twice while drunk it doesn’t really go anywhere it’s just comfortable. and then jgy finds out his dad really couldn’t keep it in his pants
