“Just Another Day” is actually so fucked up. On your first watch it’s a normal musical opening song. You’re introduced to the family members, their dynamics, personalities. There’s the quirky suburban mom, her sarcastic son, neurotic daughter, and dad who’s just eyeing his best honestly. But every rewatch it becomes more haunting. More heart wrenching to listen to. You can see the cracks that have already formed in the family. Diana is clearly unfulfilled. She hates her husband, thinks her daughter is a freak, and seems to have the best relationship with her son. Gabe just sort of floats around, only really interacting with Diana. He speaks to Natalie and Dan, trying to get their attention but to no avail. None of the lyrics are hyperbole. They hurt all the time. When they cry, when they work, when they try. Gabe’s presence never gives them any reprieve. Gabe’s gonna live forever, and this feeling will never go away
