Something i wish someone would have told me as a kid:

Draw without worrying about what the final product looks like. Write short stories about anything you think of. Sketch whenever you can. Grab your old paints and canvas and put color to it. Turn on your favorite song and sing. You dont even have to finish your pieces, just go until youre done. If you want, watch tutorials and draw that way. Just create. If you dont have the tools, draw in the sand with your fingers. Put leaves in patterns, stack your food in a fun way. Make things, even if you hate the final product. Because society has made making art seem like a sin unless you immediately make something beautiful. Art shouldn't be about that. Its about expression, and fun. And you'll find eventually that those pieces you hated helped you get to the point you create something you love.

Dont ever stop making art.

OKAY SO.

The scenes are both achromatic, very black and white, they’re both in positions where they feel trapped and headed towards only 1 conclusion. 1 ending…

This entire thing ofc is inspired off of the song “Die Your Daughter”, which makes me incredibly emotional for several reasons but thats another story. The phrase “i will die your daughter” in the context of the song is talking about how “no matter how much time passes, I will still be your daughter.” But in this art specifically, i’m using it more as “no matter what HAPPENS I will still be your brother.”

The gist here is that these 2 are struggling, and because they’re struggling, the other is struggling, and basically in a death spiral. Papyrus isnt answering the door, the house is messy, implied anxiety/depression things, and Sans is TRYING to help by bringing the outside to him (by getting Kris/You to come over) and then of course the whole running the store by himself and jitterbug thing.

(God Sans’ way of helping makes me crazy cause it really does feel so helpless, like what else is he supposed to do??)

The “why” for all of this is less important to the piece, I wanted to more depict how doomed they both feel in their own silly unique ways. The lack of communication between them also makes everything 10x worse-

For Papyrus’ bit, theres several unpacked boxes from their move into this new house/town. “Unpacking” takes on both literal and figurative meanings here, Papyrus needs to settle into this new house he’s moved into, but he also needs to unpack his feelings. Both of which are being hindered by the whole poor mental health thing, shown by the dishes stacked on top of boxes

Then some smaller things like the socks on the floor to show sort of humorously how different he is in this compared to the Undertale version of him (the whole sock stickynote thing) and the crumpled up paper in the trash meant to convey tossed out creative ideas, like in Undertale he’s shown to be very artsy and creative, but yknow…its kinda hard to do that right now

Papyrus isnt wearing any shoes, holding an awkward pose, not going outside/talking to people, yada yada

His version of doomed is like more stressful and scared, that this is all headed somewhere horrible, anxiety fueled.

Now for SANS’ bit, on its own is a lot simpler, but thats sort of the point. its stale, dead, nothing, also meant to look a little bit like the lab since it seems like he’s doing some shady stuff- But mainly He just feels trapped inside this store, because whats waiting for him at home is a horrible reminder/feeling that he’s failing his brother

The apology cards are also kinda funny but also heartbreaking- “sorry for being a bad brother/mom” “im sorry I cant help more, i want to-“ like he’s so sorry he doesnt know what to do AAUUGUUGHGGHHGHHB

His version of doomed is like it’ll be this way forever, no feeling behind it, apathetic.

Combined, its showing how divided these 2 are right now. From Papyrus’ perspective, Sans is fading away when really he’s just trying to give him space. This is shown by his silhouette fading into the background more. And then from Sans’ perspective, Papyrus’ issue is a failure that’s weighing heavy on him, which ofc is shown by HIS silhouette being incredibly harsh and noticeable.

They also both appear this way to the other because they honestly don’t even know each other that much right now, they’re just shapes

ALL THIS GOES TO SAY that they will die each other’s brother, no matter their personal struggles, and their struggles involving each other, they’re still brothers. And thats one thing they can see eye to eye on, a cold comfort that they’ll still be there no matter how they appear to each other
