Thinking about Laurance’s transition and how it affects his relationship with Cadenza.

Living on the streets, Laurance presented as a boy for purely practical reasons. The clothes he could find skewed masculine, and it was easier to blend in. Being taken in by Hayden, Laurance finally felt like he could drop that shield.

I don’t want this to come across as invalidating to his identity in any way, but Laurance’s phase of enthusiastically being a girl is so special to me, and plays such a big role in how I write him and Cadenza.

Cadenza obviously would have loved her new sibling regardless of gender or age, but she was particularly excited to have a little sister. She was over the moon to have someone to do “girly” things with. Laurance, for his part, saw all the clothes and hair and makeup as luxuries he had never gotten, so was happy to let Cadenza spoil him.

I wanna make it clear that even though Cadenza was really sweet and generous, she was also a 15 year old child and the lord’s niece. So she had a bit of a catty streak as well. Big “daughter of the mayor in a tiny town” vibe. This quickly rubbed off on Laurance, and they pretty much acted like they ran the village, regularly getting into mischief. All this to say, young Laurance and Cadenza are incredibly Poppy and Viva coded to me, and “It takes Two” perfectly captures Cadenza’s initial excitement at having a sister.

Obviously there was underlying dysphoria in the time that stopped Laurance from being 100% happy, but I don’t want it misconstrued that he was miserable or just going along with it. He genuinely loved doing everything with Cadenza, loved their reputation as the Zvahl sisters.

It was only when he started coming to terms with his identity, that maybe disguising as a boy had been more than an act, that conflict began.

Cadenza put so much value in their sisterly bond, to the point of sometimes annoying the other villagers. Laurance was scared that coming out would mean disrupting that, of Cadenza thinking less of him. It got in his head, and she quickly noticed that he wasn’t having as much as he used to.

When he finally came out, Cadenza acted supportive, but it wasn’t completely genuine. She understood that it was probably harder for him than it was for her, but she was scared his transition would mean he wouldn’t want to do things with her anymore. This came to a head when Hayden was preparing to take Laurance to a witch (aka how gender reassignment works in this fantasy world) and Cadenza tried to scare him out of it.

Hayden pulled Cadenza aside to talk to her. Laurance needed her support. And their bond with each other was deeper than the superficial need to enjoy all the same things, so even if Laurance decided he didn’t want to do those things anymore it wouldn’t change that they were siblings and they loved each other. Cadenza apologized and Laurance went through with the ritual.

Luckily, after some adjusting, Laurance being fully comfortable in his body made him even more enthusiastic to try out different hair and clothes, and Cadenza was happy to help him experiment, as it allowed her to expand the styles she made. All in all, they ended up even closer than they were before.

The back and forth on and off flirting between the two was SO suggestive, only to end in the same place??? Every. Single. Time.

It must have been maddening. Their relationship was in a different place like every single episode.

They mutually wanted to wait for Garroth to return, and put a pin in their relationship out of respect and love for Garroth. From both of them. That was a BIG plot point in their relationship. They were essentially in a limbo holding space until Garroth's return.

Aph going after Aaron after all that- behind my back, with no warning after all that would have made me CRASH OUT as well 😅.

What I hear a lot of the time is that from Aph's end she had no responsibility to be telling all her business with Aaron to anyone. And to a degree that is true, if she wants to have a private relationship that is her right....but at least say SOMETHING 😭.

Say something to the person you have verbally not nonverbally promised to wait for essentially. Say something to the person you are actively leading on by still letting them believe they have a chance. You don't have to expose your relationship status just to let someone down, especially someone so close to you.

People seem to forget that first and foremost Laurence and Aphmau are friends. Close friends.

Aphmau, as an adult, was aware of the romantic nature of their relationship. Both sides actively feed into this flirtation conversation regularly. Aphmau is aware that she is also feeding into that conversation she is having with her friend. Aphmau is aware that her friend is going to wait until she says otherwise. In knowing that, as a friend, why keep the other person on a line like that? That IS leading on. Something fans ignore. Would you treat a friend like this? 🫵

If you knew your interest had gone elsewhere. And you knew your friend was still attached. Would you treat a friend like this? 🫵

Hopefully the answer was no 🥲

Laurence is not some random suitor. Seriously, I need some people to acknowledge this fully. The relationship was complicated but it was not one sided. That means that both parties have a responsibility towards eachother in how to proceed. So yeah, Aph absolutely had a responsibility to say something about their relationship status when her interest shifted to Aaron.

I don't like throwing around the consent word in this Fandom, just because with the style of writing it gets really weird and messy and- there is an argument to be made for and against like- every single character 💀

HOWEVER I would go as far to say that this was a breech. Inside and outside of the narrative. The relationship between Aph and Laurence while not partners there is definitely a situationship here. And all things considered, not a very messy one weirdly enough :/. I believe that the confines of their relationship were defined by their agreement over Garroth in the Irene Dimension. Aph doesn't want to choose between them until Garroth's return. Laurence is going to wait for her decision following Garroth's return. Mutual choice, mutual decision, it was in words, you can check the tapes.

So yeah, Aph should have said something. Really seriously should have on this one. Because all of the parts were very clear. Feelings and actions changed on her part. She was accountable to say so. Because Laurence was still in it from his end, not told that the relationship had changed. And he did not consent to that kind of relationship. 😬

Alter ego here, I think only the neurotypical people could say Laurance was the only one in the wrong because everyone whose neurodivergent could tell how confusing as heck Aphmau was when it came to signals

I love the Enki is the DW so much. I eat it up with every rewrite and fic I can find.

It's an interesting gray area to explore because all the pieces are there for it to be true, but I don't know for sure if it was always meant to be the direction taken (and if it ever was, I can't say for sure before Mystreet).

And it would have been an excellent twist for season three, with the audience fully expecting Shad to be our main op, and then the Enki reveal bombs on us. It could be a great opportunity to explore the other divine outside of Irene and Shad since Enki was a archivist.

It's a go to for my writing, the DW arch was my favorite when it came out. That sweet succulent angst coming to fruition is Gatorade for me.

What if the Demon Warlock is actually Enki?

Ok, so as far as I know, there is no evidence to back this up(in fact, I think there might be some against it), but I enjoy this headcanon simply for the angst. I mean, all of the divine (or the ones who have close relationships with Irene) eventually becoming the thing they fought against??? The implications, the plot!

The exploration that could be done with this- in season 3 ep 2 Shad mentions Esmund aura in retrospect to the protective barrier around the portal right. What if the "spell" keeping the Demon Warlock on the Island is Esmund magiks?

Throwing away the Enki=DW headcanon rq, the Demon Warlock definitely knows what went down between the Divine Warriors right, to the point he taunts Aph about it. Yet he's still there. Meaning they couldn't/wouldn't get rid of him and if he is Enki it kinda make sense, considering they couldn't kill Shad either and ended up sealing him and a different dimension (im just realizing the parallels as I write this).

But if he isn't it is also interesting to think about cause it means that they failed they're jobs, remember Irene created the Divine Warriors to fight "fate" as she puts it and yet they just left a dangerous demon sitting around for at least 900 year, on a populated Island at that.

If he does know as much as he pretends too it's likely that he came after/during the whole Shad thing, which of course opens a different avenue of exploration- the funactionallity of the group after betraying their team member and perhaps finding out the truth of their relics. (This kinda lends to my theory that Irene and Shad were the power houses of the group)

Lady Irene and Lord Aphmau

Can we talk about Irene and Aphmau real quick.

I just mean I feel so many questions we have about Irene are explored by Aphmau and her journey not saying they are directly the same but yk

For the majority of season 1 Aphmau is Chaotic Good and it's not until the war arc where she has to make some tough decisions does she really start making choices for herself (like not marrying Zane) but even then she does with the best interest of her people in mind. In this world, people, especially Lords like Aphmau, are a rarity as stated over and over again. She goes out of her way to help people even if it impeds her own goals (the werewolves and Castor come to mind). This sets her apart and allows her to gain powerful allies but also gets her in trouble (like almost being tricked by Zenix and going to war because of Nicole).

Fastfowrd to season 2, and we see Aphmau struggling with the weight of the lost 15 years and more external circumstances. She starts doing things and acting in a way that season 1 Aph would never, like threatening Michi and joining a thief guild without telling anyone. She goes from being a chaotic good being to a more realistic character(neutral good if you will), especially where we leave off in season 3.

I'm making a theory that this development of hers directly mirros that of Irene.

We learn from Hyria that one of the reason Irene was never truly able to be with Shad was because they were exact opposite and that her job was to the people.

My little head canon is that humanity and life was Irene greatest love, above Shad and even her daughter. I would then argue that the real reason the Irene lost her emotions was because of her disillusionment with not being able to save everyone. Both Hyria and Irene have lived long lives, and unlike her friends, Irene did not go through the rebirth cycle - her immortality was just that, she did not die like the rest. For Irene she would fight monsters but the real "evil" that she sought to protect humanity from was itself (remember the king?)

This constant struggle as well as her longevity is what caused Irene to loose her emotions.

I am making the argument that this is what we see Aphmau going through as the seasons progress, dealing with new monsters that she (Irene) created, and in gaining her memories back, she also loosing herself.

(Side note I would also say that she is speed running this process as she has done it all before, but also she doesn't truly get to that point considering she probably dies in the fight with Shad.)

Just a little food for thought. What do you guys think?

Aaaaah!!!

I've been screaming this at the top of my lungsssss for FIVE YEARS!!!!

The character of Aphmau has always been a self insert character for Jess. From the start. However, the first person take to MCD and Early Mystreet never made it feel like a a self insert. Aphmau' (as she was written) character was never shoved at the viewer as the main focus, nor was her personality so non-descript that she felt like a blank slate.

We explored the world through Aphmau's eyes, got a more personal look into each character, and even though Aphmau is supposed to be a representation of Jess it doesn't work both ways, and Aphmau (as she is written) has her own character that is specific to her. Mainly her instinct to help others, no matter what it is, it makes her happy to see the community around her happy. Another way that we got to see her personality was in how others characters saw her, and how how other characters interacted with her. It is something I personaly miss, because the character of Aphmau really showed in how she interacted with others. How she treated them, and how they responded to her.

And she didn't need a traumatic background or an epic destiny to accomplish be that.

As we came away from the days of mcd and mystreet season 1 we also came away from that simple nature of character driven plot and instead more into plot that drives the characters. Which naturally diluted the other characters as the plot became Aaron Aarmau.

I think that inadvertently took away from Aphmau's personality. The optimistic but still serious and capable woman running a community on emotional intelligence and will alone, traded in. In its place... adhd smol girl to contrast Aaron's big strong-ness.

Somewhere Aaron became the solution to most conflicts. Very "Twilight" coded (movie not the books).

The Aaron-ing was more than just a poorly written love interest plot. It was the plot being EATEN. Slowly over time.

Invalid take maybe but throughout the progression of Aphmau's roleplays, characters have gotten less and less exciting as a lot of things have been taken away and put on Aaron's and Aphmau's character, discarding lots of story from the other characters, especially in Mystreet.

For some example, Laurence and Garroth became less interesting because some traits were put into Aaron and Aaron became the new troubled cursed man with issues, which was Laurence's story. Aaron's family problems were looked at deeper than Garroth, who's had family problems from the start.

Travis was more deep, and I'm not saying he isn't anymore, but his character really swallowed, like all the men in the early mystreet seasons. Dante's caring behavior was coming erased and faded away to be just another competitor for Aaron early on.

They all still have their moments, you could say, but most characters that haven't been completely not used in Mystreet have been faded to a background in some way, because Aphmau and Aaron really steal a lot of the spotlight.

The beginning of Minecraft Diaries was all in first person, so it feels so odd that later, which is more 2nd and 3rd person, have been capable of actually lessening the character's depth and perspectives shown.

I found this hiding in an old OneNote folder. I wrote this when I 10. I was kind enough to date it and everything- sort of. Since we're 5 days into the 2025 isn't it so fitting that I find this, marking 9 whole years of me writing fanfiction for these gay-block-people.

Chapter One?

Monday June 4 2016  Last night I had a vision…ok it wasn't really a vision it was a dream but…it felt so real I met a very important  family  member. A cousin of mine she…she was also a descendent of Lady Irrean but she had an issue she was half demon which wasn't really a problem for me but apparently was a problem for her. She was very shy and quiet but would only talk to her guard and would translate through him. She took a liking to Kawaii-chan and would talk to her from time to time even so she barely did that and only would talk to her when they were alone. She had something she needed help with by the sound of her voice it was important but by time she was opening up to me and actually speaking to me I was waking up. I only hope you can help me figure this all out I just need to know. I know what you're thinking. You think it was just a dream and this is all in my imagination well I don't think my imagination would make all this up with all of this detail and information all in a pacific order. Please help me out with this I think is important I'm counting on you.           From Aphmau           To Aron      I feel like this dream is leading me some were it's calling me. I feel weird but…in a good way. I feel like I'm finally going to find someone who understands my power…someone who can help me or I could help them or… help each other I don't know I just feel safer and…ugh…I can't explain but for now I'll just say it feels incredible. *Knock Knock* I heard the door and quickly answered it "Oh! Aron I'm sooo glad you came.   I…Laurence? What are you doing here?" I said surprised "I came to talk to you. There is a…visitor. She dose not want to talk to Levin she is apparently…not comfortable with Lords any Lord even here in Phoenix Drop so we gave her the next best thing. She will be here shortly." He said politely "O...oh! Thank you for this information Laurence…" "it could be what I dreamed…" I whispered "Huh" Laurence  said "Oh sorry thinking out loud…"I panicked "Ok well I should be leaving  she should be here any minute. Bye!" He walked off.      She should be here any minute. So I know from my dream that she is with a guard and is wearing a hood and what looks like a silk purple colored dress (They must be related) I just want to make sure I know what she looks like so I don't embarrass and say ("I have a relative from a dream help me find her secret! ") NEVER! I'm doing this the old fashion way by talking to her getting to know her ask small and meaningful questions and definitely DO NOT come to strong. Ok I'm ready *Knock* that is possibly

I literally couldn't read or write the year before this "piece". I forced myself to learn both just so I could write terrible fanfiction. And as a side note for me 9 years from now, still writing about gay-block-people.

If Garroth Really was endgame then Laurence was probably going to get killed off in the end (especially if he was set up to have Shad's relic).

I'm on episode 40 of season 2 of my MCD rewatch so far.

I can now safely say, it bothers me when people say that Aphmau never showed interest or reciprocation towards Garroth or Laurence because it's just not true. Most of her reciprocation for BOTH of them was displayed in the first quarter of season 2. Of course Laurence has the upper hand here because Garroth is...Well... Well he's fighting for his life in another dimension but my point is. She even accepts a kiss from Laurence and doesn't push him away from it or deny her feelings afterward when he gives her the chance to. Even earlier to this occurrence she goes through this whole crisis of realizing that she has feelings for both of them. And from what I've noticed, there's been a handful of moments where a season 1 Aphmau would normally shut down or deny Laurence, but in season 2 she instead just stays silent and blushes. In my opinion thats definitely showing us her baby steps in coming around to the whole returning the feelings thing but we all know how it goes and she moves on a couple dozen episodes later.

Also, notably -- and i kind of dont even want to bring this up as a point because it honestly seems a little more on the like...weird...side to me almost -- she didn't even need to kiss Laurence at that wedding to get him grounded. Even Laurence points this out immediately after the kiss. Makes me raise an eyebrow even more. The tension between Laurmau is undeniable no matter which way you flip it and even Laurence points out to her (in a serious tone this time! hes not just joking around!) that he KNOWS that Aphmau likes him back now but they're both holding back. Aphmau again, doesn't deny it.

I think Aphmau's problem aside from being painfully oblivious (in most of s1) is that she refuses to sit down and assess her feelings about them and she's always pushing those feelings aside until theyre brought up again for some reason instead of facing this inner turmoil. Understandably she's already going through a lot though.

I understand not being a fan of either ship or how they played out or a million other different related complaints and opinions but saying the attraction was never there feels just factually incorrect.

Tldr is polyamory could've solved a lot of problems just sayinggggg whateverrrr man.

Lord Malik refers to Matilda as "Milfina" in his journal entries. This is not explained.

And now I headcannon that Malik nicknamed his wife this as a way to actively describe her as MILF.
