Things that have helped me feel closer to my deities:
Praying before their altars (bonus points if you write your own)
Read books other than their myths (books you think they’d enjoy themselves)
Meditating with them
Learn about magickal subjects related to them
Dedicate a journal for notes and document experiences you have with that deity (including moments where they’ve assisted you and any divination conversations you’ve had with them)
Listen to their messages and follow through with them
Light incense that reminds you of them
Find artwork that feels like that deity and hang, print or save them
Divination Methods (Runes, Tarot, Pendulums, Bone Throwing, etc.)
Watch content on different subjects they’re related to (documentaries on death, relationships, crime, etc.)
Dedicate, care, and/or name pets, plants, plushies, etc to them
Learn not just their pantheon and myths but the culture that influenced them
Wear jewelry dedicated to them (bonus if you have that deity enchant them with protection)
Share meals with them
Thinking of them in passing (like “hey that thing reminds me of *insert deity*”)
Talk casually at their altars and give them an itinerary of your day
Define your relationship with that deity and refer to them accordingly (if its a more formal/in reverence, use a formal title. if it’s warm/personal, use an affectionate name.)

"Antisemitism is deplorable, but expanding it to include criticism of Israel is not helpful," Massie wrote on X.
I hope everyone of those islamophobic, arabphobic, Palestinianphobic, antisemitic 412 members of house lose their elections to people who actually give a damn about Palestine.

đ“ƒ¶ Hearth Magic 101
⛀ Please note!!! this post will contain my personal gnosis at some points. Magic is intimately personal and everyone’s practice is different. You may agree or disagree with me at any point during this post. However, while I am sharing this to be educational, please keep in mind that this is my personal outlook on this subject ♡
☟àŒșâ™°àŒ»â˜œ
đ“ƒ¶ What Is Hearth Magic?
Hearth Magic, at its core, is magic of the home. This kind of magic differs greatly between families, cultures and traditions. When starting Hearth Magic, you must take a moment to really think about what home is to you. Your hearth can be anywhere, but generally, the hearth is seen as a place of comfort, growth, and rest.
Taking care of your home has always been important and even sacred for many people. Taking care of it magically is just another way of respecting this place that takes care of you. Your home is somewhere that protects you and those you invite in. Personally, Hearth Magic is almost like showing your gratitude to this familiar place. I would suggest doing research into how the home is taken care of in your own cultures, or watch how others in your life take care of their home and take notes!
☟àŒșâ™°àŒ»â˜œ
đ“ƒ¶ How can I Practice Hearth Magic?
Just like any kind of magic, Hearth Magic will be something you incorporate into your practice in your own ways. To get started, however, here are some things you can do to:
⛀ Get into the habit of cleansing your space. This can be your whole home, or just the one specific place you consider the hearth (a bedroom, living space, kitchen, fireplace etc). You can also cleanse while doing day to day chores! incorporate moon water or intention while washing dishes, or do an herb sweep when cleaning your floors. Brooms are also important magical tools!
⛀ Try a house or home blessing/spell. For me, I made a large spell jar and incorporated ingredients commonly used in my family’s cooking, our yard, and local herbs/herbs we use a lot. This can be used as an invitation for positive energy, or a ward against negativity. This will really help set the energy of the space.
⛀ Start incorporating magic into your cooking. Kitchen magic is an easy and convenient way to keep your life a little more magical. Try adding herbs to sauces with intention, or cook in honor of spirits or deities. Easy foods to incorporate kitchen magic into (at least personally!) include sauces, soups, baked goods, and pasta dishes.
⛀ Start to decorate your home in a way that makes you happy. This doesn’t have to be any specific aesthetic; just making your space somewhere you enjoy being through decor adds to the energy!
⛀ If you like spirit work, consider the possibility that, if you live in a house, there may be a house spirit attached to the space. This can give you an extra opportunity to connect to this space and the spirits within it by honoring this entity.
☟àŒșâ™°àŒ»â˜œ
⛀ In all, Hearth Magic can be a very grounding and important part of your magical path if you plan to practice it. It allows you to really grow in a familiar and comfortable space, as well as providing you with a comfortable place to come back to every day, even for mundane life. ♡

Protection Magic: Some Important Concepts
Tumblr media
---------------------------------------------------
Long post based on my experience and research. Meant to be informative. I don't claim to know the absolute truth.
---------------------------------------------------
Protection magic is any type of work meant to protect A from B, and there are many ways that this can be done: prayers, charms, talismans, tokens, casting circles, setting up wards, visualization. The list can go on and on because it can be done in many different ways and combining many different methods.
But methods are not the topic of this post today. No, today I would like to talk about some key concepts to keep in mind before getting started on making protections and keeping them effective.
The Importance of Cleansing
Tumblr media
Before doing any protection work I like to do a cleansing. Imagine you have an open water bottle, and because it was open, a lot of dirt has found its way into it over time. You decide to seal the bottle so no dirt comes in, but you don't pour out the old water, so you end up sealing it in. Yes, you'll keep more dirt from coming in, but the muck is still there.
It is easier to see this being applied to a physical location, but I personally also apply this to personal protective tokens. I feel they work better when you are taking care of your energies by doing regular cleanses and managing internal negativity.
Important Definitions
Protection ≠ Banishing ≠ Cleansing
I feel a lot of people are under the impression that these are all the same. I think they all work together towards a similar goal, but their jobs are different.
Protection: protecting something from something
Banishing: driving out entities
Cleansing: clearing out energy
You can do cleansing, banishing, and protection at the same time, but that doesn't mean they are the same. You can do a ritual including all of them, but you can also just do a cleansing or just do warding (which is a form of protection).
Note: cleansing is not restricted to “negative energy”. You can cleanse any kind of energy. Exemple: a friend of yours decides tarot is not for them and hands down their deck to you. If you wanna work with that deck it is highly advisable that you do a thorough cleansing of it and then infuse it/consecrate it with the energies you want. It's not that your friend has “bad” energy, it's just that you might not want to work with the same energies they have, or use a tool that has someone else's energy in it.
Tumblr media
Not Necessarily a Lazy Job
One important thing with protection magic is that no matter how strong or how successful are at doing it is that it is not failproof. I have yet to see protection work that lasts forever, and there may be a few reasons for it.
Negativity also comes from within
Imagine you have a fish inside an open fish tank. Just like the bottle example earlier, you decide to put a lid on so you prevent leaves from falling into the tank and polluting the water. However, there's a fish, a living being in there, and it produces waste. It is impossible for the fish to live without producing waste. If you don’t regularly clean the water, ammonia and fecal matter will build up.
In this analogy, you are the fish. I am the fish. Humans literally cannot live without ever having a negative thought or feeling, it is part of our existence and we have to live with it. No one lives in constant bliss.
That doesn't mean we have to live in the muck though. That's why cleansing yourself is important.
No one is immune to the environment
Here I have another analogy for you. Imagine you're facing a harsh winter, but you are safe in the security and warmth of your house. Your house is protected from the cold so you don't even mind it. However, you have to go outside. You dress up, go out and you feel very, very cold. You could perhaps wear something warmer, but it will never feel the same as home. Yet it is better than going outside naked, no?
Same thing for energies. You can have protection, but depending on how strong the energy in the environment is you are sure to feel it to at least some degree. However it's best to have some protection than no protection at all.
And there is a difference between Feeling an energy and dwelling in it vs Feeling an energy and not letting it latch onto you.
Energy can wear off, and new energy can build up
Energy is ever changing, ever moving. If you do a strong protection spell once, it can last for a long while, but if you forget about it it will likely lose a lot of its strength over time. Some of what you put out there might wear off and be substituted by something else. The energy can also grow stale, which means it becomes less effective.
But if you do a strong spell every month you will not only make your protections stronger, but also constantly renew the energies and not let them stagnate.
So keep doing cleanses and every now and then give a boost to your protections so they are refreshed and recharged.
Note on "Negative Energy"
One of the main reasons someone might choose to do a protection ritual and a cleansing is to ward off negative energy. But is that really needed? What is "negative energy"?
Negative energy might feel like a sense of heaviness, dread, pain, sadness, feeling ill, angry, sad or anxious. Emotions produce and attract what we can call "negative energy", the same way it can make us feel those things.
And while I personally think nobody wants to feel them, we must understand they are not always bad at their core.
Tumblr media
The uncomfortable feelings they can cause may also be a gateway for healing and transformation. Pain tells us there is something that needs to be worked on, that needs change.
If you are feeling negative, ask yourself why. Why does this bother me? What makes me feel this way? What can I learn from this pain?
If you happen to feel negative energy, it is good to cleanse and protect. But I advise you to always look for the source to see what can be done about it or what you can learn from it. Don't just try to use spellcasting to run away from your shit. Own your shit. Deal with it.
Otherwise, it will keep coming back no matter how much protection you have.
Tumblr media
Conclusion
It is impossible to always be free from “negative energy” all the time, no matter how strong your protections are. But protections can absorb some of the blows that you would otherwise take and ease the ones you were going to take no matter what.
Protection magic alone will not solve all your problems. It is a great tool to help you keep your center and remain grounded, but it is not usually something you do once and forget. It is a continuous, ever evolving work, meant to be used in conjunction with other types of spellwork.
And most importantly, it can give you some comfort through the many trials of life.
Thank you for reading, and good luck on your path! ♡

Witchcraft Book Recommendation Lists
Tumblr media
(Reposting again bc tumblr turned off the reblogs on the original wtf. From an answer to an inquiry in the witchcraft tags. Decided to repost for anyone else who might need it.)
Here’s the post I made with recommendations for green witchcraft and plant magic. The list includes magical resources and accompanying practical texts on botany, herbology, and medicinal plants.
Here’s the post I made with recommendations for general witchcraft study, including practical sources on the history of modern witchcraft. (In particular, I recommend Margot Adler’s “Drawing Down The Moon” and Ronald Hutton’s “The Triumph of the Moon” for information about the modern movement.)
Here’s a recent photo of my personal library, if you’re looking for a general list of titles to check out.
Here’s the post I made with a list of JSTOR articles I’ve found that relate to witchcraft, witch trials, folk magic, occult beliefs, superstition, and the history surrounding all of them. It’s not exhaustive, but it’s pretty comprehensive.
And here are a couple of masterlists of podcast episodes that deal with witchcraft, witch trials, the history of witchcraft-related beliefs, and resources for fact-checking and debunking misconceptions and misinformation commonly found in witchcraft spaces.
(Also I have published a few books on practical secular witchcraft, if you’re interested
.)
You can also find additional recommendations in the "book recs" and "witchy books" tags on my blog.
Hope this helps!
(If you’re enjoying my content, please feel free to drop a little something in the tip jar or check out my published works on Amazon or in the Willow Wings Witch Shop. 😊)

ways to practice magic in everyday life
Tumblr media
incorporate knot magic into your knitted/crocheted/sewn projects. I find projects like this very meditative. I often imbue meaning into garments I create as I work on them (willing them to keep me warm on cold nights, or to protect me when I wear them out)
use herbs that correspond to your needs and intentions. this also applies to teas. many teas and herbs have multiple purposes- do your research! I really enjoy kitchen witchery personally. you can also build an herb or tea garden of plants you use regularly in your practice, to connect even further.
incorporate devotional acts into your everyday life, if you worship any deities. many things like cleaning your home, going for walks, taking a hot bath, etc can also be devotional acts to certain deities.
build routines. savoring a cup of tea or coffee in the morning, sitting on your porch and listening to nature, meditating, stretching in the morning/at night, doing a daily tarot pull, and so on. mindfulness is its own type of little magic, in my eyes.
journal, write letters, and so on. I find writing to both be therapeutic as well as a great way to connect with my deities and my craft. you can write letters to yourself, to your deities, to other people. journal every day as a form of meditation. set aside some time in the day to add to your grimoire, if you have one.
use color and scent correspondences in your wardrobe, perfumes, etc. look up correspondences to give you an extra layer of protection or an extra boost of confidence on days where you feel you need them.
there are plenty of other things than these, but these were the few things I could think that I often do off the top of my head. look for the magic in the little things. it makes life much more pleasurable.

I asked my mom and she said I didn't make potions. I remember playing with dirt and making mud cakes but no potions.
The way I got into witchcraft is first I had a magic cards deck. Like for magic tricks. And then when I was 11 I was at a friend's house and they gave me a huge book of astrology (titled The Only Astrology Book You'll Ever Need, which I bought a new copy of recently) and I was instantly hooked, cuz it was very accurate about me. After that I went to the library all the time and got books on the far and palm reading and THEEEN at a thrift shop I got a book called Tarot with Playing Cards and I used that thing for YEEARSSSS until at 16 I started high school and
stopped doing anything witchy at all except reading about it a lot online UNTILLL probably like three years ago when I picked it back up.
I overexplained but now yall know my witchcraft journey. In the time when I was just learning about witchcraft, thats still practicing so I tell people I've been a witch for 12 years because I started at 11 and I'm now 23.
i think what first drew me to witchcraft was my love and admiration for nature. when i was younger (this is a memory i would think most witches share) i remember often making “potions” to help with fake sicknesses. putting my own little intentions within grass, tree leaves, and small red berries.
what drew you to witchcraft?

daily practice ⋆·˚ àŒ˜ *
âƒă‚œăƒ»ă€‚. ăƒ»Â°ă‚œâœŒ ă‚œÂ°ăƒ» . ă€‚ăƒ»ă‚œâƒăƒ»ă€‚. ăƒ»Â°ă‚œâœŒ ă‚œÂ°ăƒ» . ă€‚ăƒ»ă‚œâƒ
the act of daily practice if often very misunderstood. a daily practice does not mean to do spells and rituals every single day in order to be a witch. it is not necessary for a daily practice to be huge or something specifically special.
you may even find yourself so distant from your craft that you put it on pause for weeks, yeah even months. does this make you any less of a witch? does this make you any less powerful? no, absolutely not!
we are human beings. it is absolutely normal to put certain things last, especially when there are more important things for you at the time. perhaps you can't practice witchcraft while studying for exams or during stressful and difficult times. or you just can't bring yourself to practice it for no specific reason at all.
just know that this is so damn normal. you should never feel bad about yourself for pausing your craft. there might be a reason for that you don't yet understand! so don't push yourself too hard.
a way to keep the magic in your life, even after pausing your craft for a while, is by incorporating daily practices into your everyday-routine, even when you're still practicing actively at the moment.
now what does daily practice mean?
daily practices are the things you do on a daily basis, regularly. we'll soon get to how some of these practices can look like.
it can help you to stay in touch with your craft, with your power, you spirit guides, deities, etc. even on days you're not drawn to do actual magical rituals—which is NORMAL and absolutely OKAY.
a few examples of daily practices:
1. stirring intentions in your drinks and foods
2. wearing crystals
3. enchant your jewelry and wear it
4. dress according to today's planet ruler
5. put spell oils on your body or clothes
6. use glamour magic (this can be as simple as drawing sigils or runes on your face with your moisturizer or makeup)
7. light an ancestor, deity or spirit guide candle (if you have one)
8. divination

ADHD Witch Tips
We need more adhd witch tips so here, have these. These are the things I have learned and seen done over the past 3 and a bit years of practicing witchcraft. As always, if you have anything to add, please comment them and I'll add them to the list with credit to you and a link to your blog!
Make witchy playlists with intention. Music is the most accessible way of doing magic in my opinion, especially if you're using spells that already exist. You can listen to these while working, traveling or just doing things around the house. If you sing along then you're adding to the manifesting power of the playlist!
Use really large spell candles so that you don't have to make a new one everytime you want to do a spell. I used to have 1 really big protection spell candle that I would light daily. Not having to make a new candle every time made me so much more likely to practice
Learn to meditate. I know, I know, hear me out. This is less of a witch tip and more of a mental health thing. You can meditate while colouring in, listening to music, cleaning, going for a walk. You don't have to sit down with your legs crossed. Mediation is an important skill that none of us do regularly enough.
stop caring about aesthetics. Are they nice? yes! absolutely! but unless it makes you more likely to practice then it's not worth it. caring too much about how your craft looks can also lead to burn out.
Be aware of your energy levels. Burn out is a serious issue among the neurodivergent witch community. Rest and pacing yourself is just as important as actually practicing.
Audio books <3333333
Try to combine your hyperfixation and witchcraft practice. This could mean using sigils in fanart or dedicate your writing to a deity.
Use hearth craft as a way to motivate you to clean your home or to cook meals/eat.
Have affirmations on your phones home screen so whenever you unlock your phone you reminded of your intentions

Types of Ancestors
We're approaching Samhain so a good time to resurface this one because every year people ask - but what if my ancestors were terrible people?
So a quick rundown of other types of ancestors that we can work with. (The terms aren't mine but rather used in the community. They should help if you want to find more info on a specific type to work with.)
Ancestors of Flesh and Blood are biological ancestors (shared DNA)
Ancestors of Milk and Honey are those who nourish us (adoptive ancestors)
Ancestors of Bone are the ancestors of the land (bones of the earth connection)
Ancestors of Breath and Bread are those we share a vocation, craft or interest with.
Ancestors of Spirit and Soul are those who we share a spiritual path with.

Witchy Self-Care
*pulls out draft from over a year ago* ENJOY
Hi! this is a list of witchy self-care things you can do. Most of these are pretty basic on account that i wrote this ages ago but they definitely still work. Anyways, I hope these help :)
Do the dishes and dedicate it to your house spirit (if you have one) or a deity (if you're religious)
sweep/mop your floor in the shape of sigils
add rosemary (or rosemary water/essential oils) to the water you mop with to set an intention of cleansing
taking ritual a bath/shower
cleansing your energy. it's so basic but I forget more than i'd like to admit
dedicating time to yourself. it's just as important as dedicating time to your deities/other spirits
light shadow work or going to therapy. bettering your mental health also betters your spiritual.
go outside and ground yourself
take a nap (less witchy, more, I love naps. rest is important)
work out/stretch and dedicate it to an entity
do some gratitude
take 5 minutes to just sit and turn off your devices. you can use this time for anything, just take a second to get off screens and connect with the world around you
meditate. if you can't sit still long enough to meditate, just focus on taking 3 deep breathes
when you wash your face, draw sigils on your face with the cleanser and moisturiser
^do the same as above but with your body wash and when you wash your hair
say some affirmations/manifestations while brushing your teeth
just check in with yourself and see how you're feeling spiritually, psychically and emotionally. sometimes we don't actually know how we're feeling until we sit down and actually ask ourselves.
If anyone has any more to add please comment. I'll add them to the list (with credit of course)

October Witch Tip #3
October is the month of the year when the energies urges us to continue declutter our lives – physically, emotionally, spiritually.
It’s also a great time to work with ancestral magic, divination and ambition magic.
October is the most magical time of the year, as we approach the pagan sabbat Samhain (October 31st).
Samhain is a day of powerful intuitive wisdom and an opportunity to connect with spirits and ancestors. It’s also the perfect time to align with our witchy sides, because October, Samhain, and Halloween is the season of the witch – the time when our magic and intuitive powers are easiest to access.
I thought that I would for this month share some tips on how you can practice during this month.

Remember folks witchcraft is different for each individual, for some it's monthly rituals meticulously planned and prepped, daily chants and affirmations and carefully crafted grimoires. for others it's a pair of quarts brass knuckles and tarot cards held go-fish style with a lavender/cedar infused squirt bottle labeled "Bitch-be-Gone".

How to have a good relationship with nature spirits (from my experience)
Nature spirits are not fairies—they’re a distinct type of entity. Fairies are spirits of nature, but they’re not the same thing! A fairy is a being that resembles a human, and tends to be mischievous and volatile depending on their mood.
Nature spirits, on the other hand, are just cognizant blobs of earth energy. They don’t speak, nor do they really “interact” with people the way fairies do. Think of nature spirits as wild animals. They’re neutral, but if they perceive you as a threat, they can become dangerous.
I’ve come into contact with nature spirits who look like big round blobs the size of trash cans. Others manifest in swarms of insects shaped like people (kind of like spriggans—no joke!). Others are HUGE, like the size of several large trees! There’s a diverse collection of nature spirits in my backyard way out in the Ozarks. One of them looks like a shadowy sloth. There’s one that looks like an enormous bear spirit, and another that looks like a child caked in mud.
The key thing to remember is that these beings are manifestations of earth’s energy. Again, they’re like wild animals—they don’t speak, don’t act like fairies, and they don’t respond to offerings or altars in the same way. In fact, a lot of the time they DON’T like altars! So how do you nurture a healthy relationship with your local nature spirits
🌿TAKE CARE OF THE EARTH! More than anything else, nature spirits love it when you do anything that makes the earth a nicer place. This includes gardening, picking up trash, and cultivating land. Nature spirits WILL show up if you do any of these things. They seem to really like farming, as long as it isn’t destructive.
🌿 Take care of animals! Particularly farm animals like chickens, cows, sheep, etc. My local nature spirits are very interested in my chickens. They seem to like it when I take care of them, especially when I go out of my way to really nurture them and give them treats and care for them when they’re sick. Nature spirits love it when you extend kindness to animals.
🌿Little things like watering plants, feeding birds, planting a garden, picking up litter, and just spending time outdoors will attract nature spirits.
Nature spirits are very intelligent beings and they know if someone is gentle and kind or malicious. My local nature spirits love my mom, who’s one of the most naturey people I know, but they HATED my sister’s ex-boyfriend, who did things like burn small animals to death for fun (he was a nutcase). If you want to get on good terms with your local nature spirits, just do small things to beautify nature and show kindness to it. They will extend their blessings to you.
So why would you want to attract them at all? In my experience, my outdoor space feels more “alive” when they’re around. They make it feel less lonely, so in a way they can be attracted for companionship. Nature spirits also make the plants and animals healthier, and that can extend to humans in the form of good health.
