The wolf pelt and jawbone necklace are the cornerstones of his entire aesthetic and he had neither. I know he left the amulet in a comic but still.

He's allowed his wolf pelt and pendant back in Veilguard, as a treat

I love that this is the first time Solas we can flirt with Solas but at the same time i don't Iike that it is considered flirting.

I feel like saying you're willing to protect your new friend isn't flirting, that's just being a decent person.

I love you Solas but that is not flirting.

It's the way the first "flirt" with Solas isn't even a flirt, Lavellan is literally just like:

"Yeah, don't worry my new little elven apostate friend, I got you! Not letting anyone hurt you~"

And Solas is just like:

"Le gasp...I love you. Oh, uh... no I mean thank you..."

Blinded by Pride

Solas knows Mythal wronged him, he knows she took advantage of him, and he knows she betrayed him. And yet, he still defends her, loves her, and even pedestalizes her to some extent.

His pride, it seems, will not allow him to consider himself a victim - especially not her victim. Even when he burned her off his face. Even when he debased himself time and time again to please her.

"You would not be the first to sacrifice your morals for love." - Solas writes to Ghilan'nain

He makes her failings, his failings.

Her selfishness, deceit, and lust for power, are the fault of others - never, ever her own. No, not his friend. Not the woman he loved and served.

"The only reason Mythal joined you was that she knew the monster you would become if left unchecked." - Solas to Elgar'nan

He stubbornly holds onto the belief that she's better than that; that she'll come to her senses. That she died not because of her own actions... but because of his actions.

Her death, in his mind, is therefore his fault. He abandoned her. He's the one who turned his back on his friend.

And yet, Solas knows.

He knows she was the one who wronged him; who ultimately betrayed him.

Inquisitor: I trust my friends. Solas: I know that mistake well enough to carve the angles of her face from memory.

He just can't seem to fully admit it.

To truly say out loud just how angry and disappointed he is in Mythal; and how angry he must be with himself for allowing himself to be treated that way for so long.

To admit he may have been wrong about Mythal... that he may have made a mistake in loving her.

It's too painful - too shameful. He'd rather torture himself than admit he was taken advantage of, that he was lied to, or that he chose to twist himself into someone he hated all to better serve a woman who would turn right around and enslave her own people.

He'd rather lie to himself.

He'd rather try to convince the world and, more importantly, himself, that he would tear down the Veil to create the world she wanted, than admit he would do so only to ease his own conscience.

But Solas, however, has always known the truth - he can't escape it. No matter how much he may wish to deny it.

"Orestes" The original plan was for Solas' arms and waist to be covered in white clay with cracks (Think clay face mask), but the thought of rendering all the cracks made me die a little inside... So naked Solas is what we got. This is my first time using gradient maps. I used several to get the desired effect before doing the overpaint. I'm really, really proud of this one. I know it's nothing like my normal stuff, but this one just has so much of my heart poured into it. I hope you guys like it, and if anyone is interested in seeing more of this kind of stuff, let me know!
