Yeah so um I decided to make an oc ask meme based around angst. Some of these I came up with myself, others are from other ask memes and I just picked the angsty ones so here goes:

12. Grudges and Vendettas

Seren

Oh boy can he hold a grudge. He’s very low on the vendetta front, that’s his cousin’s forte. But Seren can hold a grudge like it’s going out of style. The biggest grudge he holds against is his father because good ole Bann Trevelyan is an asshole. Like most of the issues in his life, it all boils down to his first love, Rinli, a city elf who Seren grew up with. Rinli was Seren’s favourite person, and while their class divide left Seren a little misguided, neither of them really cared. Rinli was a mage, and ultimately the few years before disaster struck was consumed by Rinli’s plans to leave Ostwick and be somewhere safe, especially as the news of Mage rebellion was stirring throughout the Free Marches. 

Rinli’s mage status, and their plans to leave were both kept secret and safe right up until the last few weeks before the two boys left, when Seren was discovered sneaking out supplies by his elder brother Oran, and everything exploded. Oran swore to keep the secret to Seren and then ran straight to their father and spilled. What followed broke Seren’s heart, leaving Rinli in the Circle, Rinli’s mother injured and alone, and Seren unable to trust his brother or his Father. The following few years was consumed with Seren’s open distrust, a rift grew between Seren and most of his family as he fought to find a way to get back to Rinli, whether that be in the Circle or out of it. In addition, Seren fuelled his bitterness towards his father by misbehaving, attacking Alad Trevelyan where it hurt: his hard won family reputation. Seren’s modus operandi only grew more focussed after the death of Oran, whereby Seren used his own guilt as well as his well-burning grudge to punish his father. It was ultimately Seren’s misbehaving that made his mother send him to the Conclave in his sister’s place, just to get Seren out from under his father’s way, and to simultaneously give Seren something to do other than fuel the rift between them. 

It’s a grudge Seren held long after his father dies, and in part he revels in the decisions he made and how they would have affected the Set In Stone reputation Alad had crafted for the family. He ultimately never forgives Alad for what he did to Rinli. 

Lena on the other hand.

Lena Trevelyan’s life story is a vendetta against her family. Everything she does both before and almost half-way through her time as Inquisitor is to punish her family for sending her sister to the Circle, and then cutting Niah out of the family completely. 

Basically the elder Trevelyan generation are all assholes of varying degree. 

Lena and Niah were born very close together, meaning that they were raised together, and where one was the other was in about a three metre radius. Even as children Niah was the sweet caring one, and Lena the rough housing troublemaker, but they were hopelessly devoted to each other, as their mother had little time for them whenever it didn’t involve dressing them up and showing them off to visiting nobility, and their father seemed to lack a personality gene completely. 

Niah, in her own way, was Lena’s conscience and impulse control, two things that disappeared completely when Niah accidentally set fire to her curtains when she was eight years old and was immediately taken to the Circle, without a moments hesitation, their father holding Lena back the whole time to stop the girls from reaching each other. 

This was the moment that set Lena down a singular path towards open rebellion of everything her parents ever wanted. From the moment Niah was taken, the family cut her out completely, and the other children were not allowed to even speak of her. Each time Lena was forbidden from mentioning or asking about her sister caused the young girl even more resolve, and she took great joy in reminding their mother in particular that she had a third daughter whenever she could, especially in other company. Everything that was asked of her she did the opposite, every moment spent covered in mud, hair unbrushed, mouthing off. Lena Trevelyan made her parents pay for their horrible decision every moment she could, it did not matter how small. She never forgot and she never forgave. 

Half the reason Seren’s father, the Head of House Trevelyan was so desperate to conserve and maintain the family image was because of Lena. 

Alad had the drive to succeed where Lena’s parents failed, and there was little public honour her parents had by the time she was a teenager. it was almost a relief when she disappeared shortly after the Mage Rebellion.

13. What gets them flustered?

Seren

Seren gets flustered whenever he see’s Cassandra training when he’s meant to be doing something else. Josie makes sure that he sticks to the actual castle when talking with diplomats, because all it takes is one glance at Cassandra’s biceps and he’s done for. 

He gets flustered by women fawning over him, particularly older women. The young ones he can brush off, because in no way do they stand up against Cassandra. But older women do it to make him embarrassed and it works about 90% of the time. 

He also gets flustered whenever he overhears people talking about his friends. There is a short percentage where he is either amused, flustered, or angry and it can fluctuate in a moment depending on what they’re saying. Anything derogatory he’s gonna flounce off and plot with either Josie or Sera depending on the status of said talkers. 

Lena

Lena doesn’t get flustered very often but it usually involves a pretty girl. Initially it doesn’t matter who the pretty girl is, but a pretty girl being cute is a shore fire way to get Lena pretty flustered. She doesn’t know how to talk to pretty girls unless she’s a) a bit drunk b) just finished fighting or c) about to do some fighting. 

But considering how much time she spends in all 3 states, she comes across pretty suave most of the time. 

But it doesn’t take long before Josie holds all the cards. 

Josie has the monopoly in making Lena Trevelyan flustered, and it happens a lot until their relationship really mellows out, which takes a few years. Lena just finds Josephine cute doing anything.

I've sent out a similar Obscure DA Ask before, but I reeeeeeally want to know your answer for Seren and your other OCs! Does your OC think of themselves as a good person? How would they feel if a child told them they were their hero?

Seren Trevelyan

Seren does think he’s a good person, but he only thinks it measured against everything he deems a good person would do and his own goodness varies day to day on how many things he can cross off. Which he tries really, really hard to do, to live up to this idea of goodness, and once he becomes Inquisitor oh boy does that idea multiply. He gives the Inquisition his ALL, and it wears him out so much. But he can’t live with the idea that he didn’t give everything he had, whether it was asked for or not. He feels a bit like a fraud every time someone tells him he’s a good person, or that they’re proud of how well he’s doing, especially the latter because it often feels like he’s drowning. Fixing Thedas is a very long list and he is always one step behind. 

That being said, Seren loves children, and he often takes his team out of their way to travel with refugees so he can play with kids. Almost every child in the Hinterlands has a flower crown hand made by Seren and he keeps the ones made for him pressed between the pages of his journal. So a child telling him that he’s their hero would MELT him. Its one of the few things that reinvigorate him for the constant fight. 

Elena Trevelyan

LENA ON THE OTHER HAND. Oh my sassy, rebel-hearted wild child, oh she thinks she’s burnt to a crisp on the inside. Losing her sister Niah to the Circle when she was so young opened her eyes to all the nasty lies and manipulations and immorality of the Good Chantry-Loving Noble Houses. She’s rebelled and resisted ever since, and revels in the chaos and anger she leaves in her wake. She has her goals, personal and ever so private, and she’s happy to stain city blocks red to get there. 

Becoming Inquisitor forces her to reevaluate what she wants and whether she wants anything at all, really. She gives herself to the Inquisition because she knows it is more than her, more than anyone and deep in her heart she knows helping the world is what Niah would want to do. She was at the Conclave looking for her sister and in her place Niah wouldn’t (doesn’t) hesitate. 

Josephine becomes the moral light for Lena, she becomes the reason to go back to Skyhold for. Not as Inquisitor, because there is plenty still to fight for and she’s never given up on a fight yet. But personally, as Lena, Josie becomes all the goodness worth fighting for and Lena believes that is as close to being a good person as she’ll ever get. 

As for a kid telling her she’s their hero, she would grin and ruffle their hair and then probably teach them how to play-fight with actual real fighting techniques. But in her heart she feels like a fraud. She’s not good enough to stand above everyone. 

Niah Trevelyan

Niah, my circle mage princess is as good hearted as they come. She’s sunshine and rainbows (and forest fires) and much like Seren doesn’t FEEL like a good person, but she fights every day to be as good as she can. She fights for the lost and downtrodden, the mages and refugees, the broken families and lost homes and every cause she comes across. She believes she’s been chosen to lead the good back to happiness, even if it never comes for her. She’s content in that. She’s as good hearted and selfless as they come and no one ever deserves her. 

Liraeas Lavellan 

Liraeas, last but not least, doesn’t believe he’s a good person, no. As the First of his Clan, he’s always known that the clan comes before himself, and he transfers that to the Inquisition. But he is happy to fight dirty, fight hard, injure and maim and level a playing field, whether it be in battle or over dinner. He is willing to do whatever needs to be done in order to reach his goals, which was somewhat subdued as the First, but once becoming Inquisitor and having the weight of the world on his shoulders, he stands tall and refuses to back down. 

He believed in fighting for the good of the world, but he doesn’t believe he falls under that banner. He takes goodness more as a measure of innocence, and having lost that over and over again fighting for the Inquisition he feels stained and broken and weary. 

Having a child tell him he’s their hero would reaffirm that he is doing the right thing, which isn’t a good thing for Liraeas, but it is a good thing for Thedas.
