the thing is you are going to get older and you are going to die. you don't have unlimited time on earth. you have to spend all your time on your phone now
#literally its so easy for me to just sit on the internet being frustrated#i'm really re-dedicating myself this summer to Not Doing That

MAN i'm in a thoroughly good mood because of the Sunidhi Chauhan concert @watertightvines and I went to yesterday. I already knew I'd enjoy it because of nostalgia and also her songs tend to be like if serving cunt was a genre music genre... but then large portions of the concert were essentially a megamix/dj set so I was also geeking the fuck out over the music theory of it all. For example I was just sitting there like O_O during Dhadak Dhadak when she started changing the key of the 'dhin tinak dhin dhin dhin na' part to transition to another song.
idk idk i think singing 'beedi jalai lay, jigar se piya, jigar maa badi aag hai!!!' alongside hundreds and hundreds of people might have fixed me lol
#actually beedi wasn't a surprise#but i was surprised at Lucky Boy being on the set list#also raat de dhai baje#and the aforementioned dhadak dhadak#and shut up and bounce!#i know those songs aren't obscure but still i was surprised somehow

imo sharing your art for free online for strangers to see it requires a lot of courage. A lot of mental strength. Im being serious rn i think if youve ever shared anything online and even if its not popular even if only a few people have seen it i think thats very very brave

The EP–1320 Medieval is, amazingly, a real gadget being sold by Teenage Engineering — it’s a “beat machine” (or “instrumentalis electronicum”) loaded with a bunch of musical phrases & instruments from the Dark Ages. “This is ludicrous and I love it.”

okay and ONE MORE THING
i love how the music in THAT scene really emphasized a mechanized clave because doing that reads as very 90s/early 2000s
Sinners (2025) definitely worth the hype by the way. Especially loved the themes about music. Seeing this on Easter was absolutely the way to do it.
The visuals for this song from the OST are definitely getting well-deserved acclaim but the song itself nearly made me cry from amazement. Especially when THAT beat drop happens. I've been looping it all day to try and figure out all the different components and what makes it work. Spoilers below I guess (for one particular visual that's fun to be surprised by)
I actually gasped when the DJ apparition popped up. The hip hop biographies I've read have given me so much appreciation of how many aspects of modern popular music (machine drums that don't sound too robotic, decay time, sampling etc etc) are all things that people had to spend so so so so much time developing, experimenting with, enhancing, etc etc. The process of having one song transition into another feels like a damn near alchemical process too so I'm forever in awe of how people can do that shit live.
Just... idk... I loved that, and I loved the presence of the electric guitar for that matter. Both things sometimes get derided as being "not real" music so I thought it was so beautiful how this scene showed that there's a throughline between fully acoustic music and electric guitars and DJing, they can all come from the same wellspring of creativity

actually on that note (haha pun intended)
i fuckin loved that old man Sammie was playing an electric guitar at the end for this very reason! he's introduced as a music lover and his defining moment was him manifesting like fifty different music genres including ones that would be developed in the future
so I just love the idea of him making his way in the world and encountering electrified instruments for the first time like hOLY SHIT. i really do think part of being a successful producer/composer/whatever is like... having a sense of wonder about musical instruments and innovations that can come with them. soooo much of creativity in music is going "hmmm what if I tried... THIS" and sometimes it sounds fucking ridiculous but sometimes you make something that feels divinely inspired.
just a really great way of showing/not telling with that character imo

I think a lot of people are forgetting that on tumblr fandom used to be practiced very differently. now everyone fucks off to their discords or tumblr groups to discuss everything with a select few, making tags be nearly only used for posting some finished fanworks or not at all
a decade ago people didn't have tumblr groups. people didn't even have dms. if you wanted to talk to anyone about anything you had to make a post, or send an ask (which more often than not would get published and thereby become a post in the end too)
so next time you think "I have a fandom thought but I have to find a small group of hyperspecifically like-minded people to share it with in private" remember all the freaks you could be missing out on meeting by keeping the tags dead. use tags, make friends. fuck discord.
#i would be all in on this#but i cemented some of the best friendships of my life#by meeting them on westerosorting (RIP) and taking it to IRC lol

the fact that i owe the government money for taxes this year when they are DELETING THE GOVERNMENT is just ohhhhh. I don't even know what to say. there's a reason i'm drinking a cape codder while I finally do my tax return.
