These chocolate peppermint scones are a delightful holiday treat. They have a rich cocoa flavor, a hint of peppermint, and are studded with chocolate chips and crushed peppermint candies.
Ingredients: 2 cups all-purpose flour. 1/3 cup granulated sugar. 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder. 2 1/2 tsp baking powder. 1/2 tsp salt. 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed. 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips. 1/2 cup crushed peppermint candies. 2/3 cup heavy cream. 1 large egg. 1 tsp vanilla extract. 1/2 tsp peppermint extract.

Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the chocolate chips and crushed peppermint candies. In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, egg, vanilla extract, and peppermint extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the dough should be slightly crumbly. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times to bring it together. Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick circle and cut it into 8 equal wedges. Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until they are firm and slightly golden. Let the scones cool on a wire rack before serving.
