my tip to befriending nature spirits is to just like Go There and be around them. maybe sprinkle a few native seeds for the birds, give a squirrel a little pile of nuts, clean up a bit, sing a little, etc. they'll get used to you being around and be like "oh!!! the human who sings to us is back!!" its literally that easy. just do nice things and spend time with them, they'll warm up to you.

*for purposes of this poll I will be referring to any and all magic users as “mage” because it’s 4 letters and there are too many different magical identities. No t no shade no pink lemonade 💅🏻

Introduction to traditional playing card fortune-telling
Tumblr media
Naughty children, today I shall be your good Ukrainian grandmother teaching you how to read playing cards - or, this is your introduction post to this list of meanings.
Begin with taking a new deck of cards; once selected for telling fortunes, it must not be used for games. It has to contain thirty-six cards, thus, if a full deck, take out the Jokers and cards two to five.
While every card has its own meaning, they follow certain general guidelines. Cards are to be read in groupings, modifying each other’s meanings, so start your practice with pairs and groups of three. Traditionally, the King and the Queen of the suit of Hearts are used as significators.
♥️ Love, emotions, relationships, joy, family; air; timing: springtime, morning, hours to days
♦️ Money, material possessions, physical health; fire; timing: summer, daytime, days to weeks; people young, unmarried, wealthy, in good health
♣️ Legal matters, social status, achievements, learning; earth; timing: autumn, evening, weeks to months; people middle-aged, married, benevolent
♠️ Sorrow, selfishness, cruelty, vice and loud, drunken festivities; water; timing: winter, nighttime, years; people over 55, with power or status, hostile or selfish
Ace - initiation, sudden happening, a place or an item
6 - a path, a time frame
7 - conversation, first steps of a process
8 - meetings, development of the process
9 - an event, first results, difficulties can be resolved
10 - full development of a process, something of interest
Jacks - accidents, news, lack of expertise
Queens and Kings - people or states

All the plants are local in my area because we always have the basic cinnamon, rosemary, lavender and the such but i think it be more fun to use things that are unique to my area also I'm including holistic uses or if it can be side effects Yada Yada

There are three major types of spiritual practice: first, reaching the spirit by rewarding the body, through ritual feasting, drug-taking and sex; second, reaching the spirit by denying the body, through fasting, cleansing and purification; and third, by abandoning the physical entirely and attempting to reach the numinous entirely via the life of the mind.   In this essay, entitled “Bed, Bath and Beyond”, I will

I understand the opposition to gendered language in magic, but when Trismegistus says shit like "all liquids and gases are inherently female, whereas all solids and plasmas are male" consider that perhaps a legendary Egyptian from 400bce may have a different understanding of gender than we do.

This reminds me of a 'friend of a friend' story in which someone burnt down their kitchen attempting to dry herbs (?) in their toaster.
Distant cackling as I find out my wee glass kiln not only hits bisque temps, not only his glass fusing and enamel temps, but can also ride as low as 100f.
So, I COULD use it to heat-infuse oils, unguents, etc. dry herbs, wood, roots...
or y'know...
Cheeky little bit of alchemy in the tool shed.

When I was first learning magic, I agreed to have my mentor help me create a servitor of sorts, so I could do more complex work sooner. A servitor, or at least this type of servitor, is actually a piece of your "soul" (by which I mostly mean energy) which is set aside for a specific purpose and given a simple mind to achieve that purpose.
It can be very serious magic.
All went well for quite some time, but eventually, we broke up. I attempted to dispel the servitor, but instead it evolved into something else. It began to attack me, and I suffered migraines and recurring nightmares for the first time in my life. I was tired all the time, as if even when I slept I wasn't really resting. Eventually, I managed to lock it away, and it remained that way for years.
In that time, my ability to use magic was greatly diminished. Things that had come easily to me before creating the servitor were just... gone. It was a difficult time for me.
Very recently, it began to escape and torment me again. This time, I was able to communicate with it more effectively. Now I often work with this spirit to do more complex magics, but it is still an uneasy arrangement.
I'm aware I made a lot of mistakes in how I handled the situation, but this is a brief summary of my relevant story.
a case against fucking around and finding out: sometimes the finding out is not worth it.
Not to hit the coffee and immediately say something melodramatic, but here we go:
In the context of learning witchcraft or similar occultish pursuits, the quip fuck around and find out seems to put a lot of emphasis on the fuck around
and I think a lot less focus on the finding out.
I think that the finding out is assumed to be something that can be swept up and tidied under the rug, like:
Whoops, time to learn counterspells!
Well thank goodness I saved that bookmark for protection amulets.
What a relief! I saw a fairy doctor talking about how to correct offenses to the fae, that's really going to come in handy.
But I don't know if people consider that the finding out is sometimes, like:
I've had intermittent recurring pain in my heart for over a decade where a demon implanted energy tentacles into me, and energy healers have warned me to leave it alone. This is something I live with now.
I did a spell in the forest - I didn't know I needed to ask for permission - and now the trees are haunting me; I can't close my eyes without seeing a corpse-like dryad attacking me. I consulted with a spirit doctor and now I have to make offerings in the forest eight times a year just to appease those spirits, and my green magic has stopped working. It's time to rebuild my path.
I accepted the first spirit that appeared to me as my spirit guide. Six years of chronic fatigue later, after losing most of my friends and being able to move nowhere with my life, someone in a Discord told me that spirit is an energy vampire.
I learned to speak with ghosts and the first thing that happened was one of them implanting an energetic cord in me. It told me it was a symbol of honor, but since then I haven't been able to shut the ghosts out. It's affecting my relationships and my ability to work, and I need help.
I feel like I swing on the pendulum between "yeehaww, get in the back of the pickup truck y'all, let's go wrassle that magic!" and "last week Earl got his ankle run over by the truck and he needs seven surgeries to keep his foot."
I don't think either side is more correct than the other. Magic is a big landscape, and it's filled with mountains and valleys.
Just, like. Be careful out there, y'all. Sometimes the finding out really isn't worth it.

i wanted to make this its own post bc not enough readers acknowledge this.
tarot is not infallible. tarot readers are not infallible. treating tarot as an absolute rather than a suggestion is dangerous.
