I’m the worst, and other things ^^;;;

Ken here~ 1/2 of the leader of Pandamic Scans. Fessing up that I was tasked to manage this thing and yet...have not posted or responded to messages in weeks. I’m sorry! In spite of my shortcomings, I know many of you continue to support us here, use this as a forum to ask questions and make helpful suggestions, and even find us for recruiting purposes here. Thank you!! I can’t promise that I’ll make more regular updates cuz life BUT know that we do read your messages and appreciate it a lot!!

I just wanted to thank you guys for all your hard work with these wonderful scanlations! Anyway, since you guys just started translating "Murderer Llewellyn's Enchanting Dinner Invitation" and so it's not too late to point out this mistake, I thought it would be better to let you guys know that their names are spelled as Lewellyn and Shavonne. I only got aware of this too while reading an excerpt from the novel, and that's exactly how it's written there since their names are very meaningful ;)

Thank you very much for bringing this to our attention! Do you mind sharing with us the excerpt you were reading? Getting all these small details right is super important to us and is something we’ve been concerned about since this comic is based on a 2 volume novel with many twists and turns. I raised your message up to the team and Hira, the translator, volunteered to read the novels before continuing translating (tysm, Hira!! you’re amazing!!). So far she’s most of the way through the story and confirmed that the spellings should be Llewellyn and Shavonne. We will update in our next release.

Hello pandamic Scans !! thank you for uploading "black mirror" on mangago. but now I have a serious concern, since it has been serialized on Tappytoon. when googling black mirror it pop ups on "mangaowl" website too. and unlike mangago mangaowl is not discreet. if the author finds out dont you thi k she may take it down. since it easily pops up om google search.

Hi, thank you for your concern! I wanted to clarify that we actually do NOT upload our scans to Mangago or other aggregator sites. We (and most other scanlation groups) only upload our scans to Mangadex. Mangago and other sites like it post our scans without our permission, profit off of the scans we do for free, and put us as risk of legal action by publishers. If it was up to us, they would not be on there. If you read scanlations, please read on Mangadex (or the group’s website if they have one)! It makes scanlators feel safer and also has the best quality work and most current releases. Regarding Black Mirror, we only scanlated 4 chapters of the work and dropped it immediately after we found out it was officially licensed in English on Tappytoons. If you like the work, please support the author by purchasing the chapters there! Any future chapters of Black Mirror you read on Mangago is actually stolen from the official publisher on Tappytoons.

Dear Door Japanese release + Important Information (a mini-rant)

Pluto recently announced that a Japanese version of Dear Door will come out in the third/fourth quarter of 2020 (roughly around October). The launch was most likely pushed back due to covid-19. We’ll update you guys more when we learn new information.

As for the English release, it is still shrouded in mystery. Pluto is currently looking for an English publisher. Regardless of their choice, please show them support by buying the chapters on the official platform.

And please, for the love of all that is holy, *do not* link illegal websites (every and single one hosting Dear Door that *is not* Bomtoon) on Pluto’s Twitter account. You’re literally rubbing salt in Pluto’s wounds by doing that.

Inform other readers that everything they read on Mangago, Myreadingmanga, Mangarock, Mangafox, etc. (you name it) is ILLEGAL. I know many cannot afford to buy as many chapters as they’d like to read, so they rely on aggregators to read the releases. However, please understand that comic authors work ungodly hours, with tight deadlines, and earn pretty much peanuts. 

To them, illegal reading is literally stealing bread from their mouths. I know many people will roll their eyes reading this and think “Who is this privileged person, what do they know,” etc.. That’s totally fine. However, I’m a working student myself. I know how hard I had to work to feed myself and how hard it is to give money away. Suddenly when you see a $2 bagel it makes you question whether it’s worth buying or not when you earn $3/h. (20 HRK if you’re wondering)

These authors work hard. It’s a type of dedication you don’t see often. They easily burn out like candles from all the pressure. Eventually, many authors realize that it’s just not worth it to continue drawing when the pay is low, the working conditions horrible, and on top of that the aggregators steal their profits and their readership. Those who continue drawing probably view their whole job as a passion project. 

The reality is that most authors will not get rich from their comics. 

So, let us be fair to them. 

Let us allow them to have something more than ramen noodles for meals. One chapter is roughly 60 cents. 60 cents. Most people can afford to spend 60 cents.

I apologize if my words have personally attacked anyone, but after revisiting Mangago’s page for DD and seeing a gazillion comments along the lines of “oh woe is me i can’t afford it” or “another raw website shut down? you’re stealing from the poor!!!!!,” I want you to remember this: just by reading on Mangago, you’re stealing that cheap-ass-street-stall steamed fish bun from Pluto’s hands. 

They worked hard, but they could easily lose the motivation from all the illegal consumption of their comic. They have assistants to pay who help them finish the chapters on time. They have Bomtoon to pay for uploading the comic to the site. Ultimately, there are bills. 

Please, think about your priorities. Please, think how to support comic authors in general. Don’t mindlessly gobble up all the comics you see on aggregator sites thinking they appeared there out of thin air. Someone drew them. Someone’s income depends on people paying for that content. 

Please be more conscious of your words and actions. (Remember, aggregator sites like Mangago are all illegal.)

If you have the means to support the author, please do. It’s the only way for them to continue working on a job that both you and them love.
