V O L U M E An interesting topic for #yarnlovechallenge - I thought, should I go down the expected route of talking about how big my yarn stash is and how much square footage of my house is taken up in storing it, or is it a much deeper question. Of course, it's a much deeper topic. To my mind, volume in most things is not always a good thing - property, possessions, friends, followers, food, the list could go on - having more is usually having less. I would much rather have a handful of totally loyal friends, one home that is my sanctuary or 50 Instagram followers that genuinely love what I do, than say 10k followers that randomly click an aesthetic they like. The one exception to this in my mind would be music - with music volume is EVERYTHING. If I had my life over I would be a musician for sure - it feeds my soul, and I listen to music constantly when I work. I'm also part of a choir called @theBIGCHOIRlondon raising money for #cancerresearch. So crank up the volume as much as you can 🔊🔊🕪🕪

Attended a great lecture yesterday by Maaike Noorlander of @mmepomm at @britishacademyofjewellery where she touched upon the meaning of 'success' How would you measure your success as a business - Is it the number of 'sales' or 'followers' or 'likes'? The important factor for her was happiness - and that truly struck a chord in me. We get bombarded on social media by images from businesses that are instantly liked, we look at the number of followers they have and wonder, how can I get to that point? But is that really the key to success? I think we get fooled into thinking so. True success goes hand in hand with feeling happy - Satisfaction with your achievements and a good lifestyle balance is the key to success. Selling jewellery is a tough business but we don't have to make it an uphill struggle - I'm learning that now. Sorting through some prints that need framing today, and came across this little cross stitch I did nearly 10 years ago. I accompanied my son an a school trip to the @national_gallery in 2008 to look at famous paintings of ships. One of those paintings was the #fightingtemeraire by #jmwturner On our return I worked with the year 2 class on a tapestry project where they were all given a piece of binca and then guided to stitch their own version of the #fightingtemeraire painting. F I N I S H E D ! Managed to complete in time for New Years eve 😁 I love the way it's turned out, I think the colours have really grown on me - This is my new shawl for 2018 😄 I used an extra bit of @langyarns_official to tone down a tad - if I had more @iknitordye yarn I would have made it longer. The lesson I've learnt is that we should step out of our comfort zone every one in a while, to open ourselves up to new experiences. You never know where it may lead, and what creative force it may ignite. Second careers are born that way. Let me take this opportunity to wish you all the very best for the New Year to come, may it be fruitful, joyful and full of new experiences.
