Breathing and stretching.
I believe that every human being has their potentials and limits, and when you work with your body these aspects become more and more clear. Stretching has always been a challenge for me In the last few months, I stopped trying to force my stretching exercises and started to notice how my body responded when I began to prepare myself to stretch. I realized that every time I thought about it, I started to feel all my muscles tense up and started to feel hot and sweat: tension, intense tension!
After I listened to my body I came to understand what stretching meant to me: I was always alert, almost panicking about the pain I would probably feel. When I understood this response I found a way to fight it: to stop focusing on the pain. Breathing was the key concept to change it all. When I breath, I relax and everything becomes more fluid...sounds obvious, right? Yes, theoretically! Our intelligent and rational side can be very tricky. So, my advice is: when you face your limits, listen to what your body has to say.

As a psychologist and adept of psychotherapy, I have come to recognize the difference between therapy and something therapeutic. Therapy is always therapeutic, but not everything that is therapeutic is a form of therapy.
What activities you do find therapeutic? Singing? Painting? Reading? Writing? Running? For me, it is dancing... it has always been dancing. Developing your corporal intelligence can be very therapeutic and fun!
These days, we value cognitive intelligence above all else. Sometimes we ignore our body and don't get enough sleep, forget to eat well, etc., because in our modern world, the rational aspect is always the most important. We often forget that before we learn to verbally express ourselves and experience the world through our body, our body makes a connection between the inner world with the outer world. We get to know things by smelling, tasting, seeing and hearing them... we feel the thing.
Remember to take care of your vehicle, take care of your soul.

Video: The WeFly challenge this week was an exercise in expression. The athlete Michelle Stanek created a phrase and we had to express two words based on her routine. My words were Serenity and Bounce.

How I begin to pole? Huh, it's a funny story.
Ever since I can remember, I've danced - all my life. Ballet, Tap Dance, Jazz, Hip Hop, Afro Dance...
My senior year of college in 2011 was a very busy year: between planning my wedding and writing my thesis, I couldn't find time to dance as much as I would have liked. It was a very difficult year because, even though I was working out - even going so far as to try Muay Thai - I felt that something was missing.
On a typical day at the end of 2011, I picked up a neighborhood newspaper, opened it and came across a picture of a girl upside down on a pole. I didn't hesitate a second and said, "I want to try this and schedule an experimental class!"
And Voilà! Ever since that moment, I haven't stopped. I found the perfect harmony between dance and gymnastics; art and sports; rhythm and strength; contraction and expansion...
I highly recommend it!
