really need to figure out at least a working title for the story i’m currently working on
as i’ve been working on the outline, i keep running into the issue of not being sure how i’m going to end it. it’s looking like it might have to extend past one book to reach the real ending. this wouldn’t be a problem normally but this whole project was meant to be a one book ‘just for fun’ sort of a thing.
do i just write it like a stand alone with enough of an open end for there to be a sequel?
should i just start getting a rough idea for later books plotted out to? sake of continuity, pacing, and all that??

i’ve committed to working on two projects atm - switching back and forth when i feel like it. so far so good but it’s kind of hard to not get ahead of myself. there’s so much i can’t do until at least finishing the first draft for one of them, and the other continues to reveal how out of practice i am with drawing. (doesn’t help that i never really gave myself the time to get a grasp on digital art in the first place)
i don’t think i even posted anything for the end of nano last year. i hit 50k and just jumped right into working on other things which is a FIRST
happy belated new year and all that
i’m going to get back to it now

outline is almost finished!
i'm not as ready as i hoped to be, but i think i've got plenty to work with. this is also probably the biggest outline i've ever had for nano before? everything got a little out of hand so i might be aiming a little higher this year (we'll see how i'm feeling when writing starts)
it hasn't quite hit that nano starts tomorrow but i'm starting to feel excited

i've been working on my nano2023 outline and it's looking like my main character isn't going to have much power or control over the plot - which does make sense for when in the timeline it's taking place. my characters start out pretty young, and i don't think they're going to be old enough for them to be responsible/in control of much even by the end of this first book.
i haven't really worked with a plot where the main character is this out of the loop before?? we'll see how it goes

Every 21st century piece of writing advice: Make us CARE about the character from page 1! Make us empathize with them! Make them interesting and different but still relatable and likable!
Every piece of classic literature: Hi. It's me. The bland everyman whose only purpose is to tell you this story. I have no actual personality. Here's the story of the time I encountered the worst people I ever met in my life. But first, ten pages of description about the place in which I met them.

1000% this!!!!!
in the middle of a project (especially during nano) going back to my story's moodboard has always given me a boast of motivation when i've started to lose interest or felt like i'm drifting away from what the story is about
i also like to create a writing playlist for the same reason, even if i don't actually listen to it while i'm writing (i know a lot of people don't do both at the same time), listening to part of it before i start writing, or during a planning session, has the same sorta effect
haven't even started on mood board for this years nano so i guess i know what i'm doing tonight
As I’m getting focused and ready to start brainstorming for nano, I wanna give out a big TIP.
CREATE A MOOD/STORYBOARD FOR YOUR STORY ON PINTEREST.
It definitely helps to visualize what your story’s look/aesthetics or vibe is about. It’s helped me so much, being a visual person, to see all the gothic, spooky, gory imagery that lingers in my thriller/horror series.
I hope it works out for all my writers out there! Godspeed!

i was being dramatic.
i just need to figure out how to 'justify' character traits and arcs with world building/plot points. i've done this so many times
i keep sitting down to plot out my nanonovel, and i'm making like barely any progress.
since it's such an old story the main thing i'm actually keeping is the characters (the original plot was like barely there tbh) - but i think it's working against me??? i Do Not want to revamp them but literally what do you mean the only way to avoid that is to reconstruct the plot around them
i haven't made the plot after the characters in years because (turns out) it doesn't work for me
i literally don't know how people do it
fourteen year old me didn't consider the consequences here

i made this blog to talk writing, nanowrimo, and the creative process. i've got ongoing projects in lots of genres, but i mainly write sci-fi, fantasy, and supernatural. i've been doing nanowrimo every single year since i was 15 - my nano username is also maikro (please go bug me on there i would love more writing buddies)
i'll be posting about my wips, writing process, and other ramblings. i plan to publish some of my projects online in the future, too.
i'm always interested in new writing friends so feel free to reach out! i am desperate for human interaction

i'm already started on my nanoprep for november this year, and i'm finding the official forums and my new region to be pretty dead.
is anyone else already looking around for people to talk about their nanonovel with?
it'll be my 10th year, so i've decided to work on the first novel i ever wrote for nano - it's requiring quite a bit of gutting so i don't have a clear idea of plot yet, but i figure i'll make a full post about it when i do
