Erwin Kreuz, a West German brewery worker on his first visit to North America, has snoozed himself into becoming the biggest celebrity in the state of Maine. Mr. Kreuz, 50, was napping when his charter flight to San Francisco touched down in Bangor last week for refueling and a crew change. He awoke in time to hear the stewardess wish her passengers a pleasant stay in San Francisco. Mr. Kreuz, who speaks no English, grabbed his bags in a fluster and followed, passing through customs and booking comfortably into a hotel. Not until three days later, when he hailed a somewhat astonished cabbie and asked to be driven to San Francisco, did Mr. Kreuz's mistake become apparent.
That'd be a long taxi ride, Bangor Daily News. October 25, 1977.
