This is a #repost of an old collage that I completed nearly a decade (8-10ish years) ago. I also posted it on my portraits page, @makaniportraits , but today seems like an appropriate #throwback day so I'm throwing it up here too. - I know it's much different than my recent work, but it is a glimpse at the work that led me here. I used to only create portraits. After a while, I became bored with the rigid, meticulous process behind drawing/creating realistic faces. In my eyes, my recent work is a rebellion of sorts...an exploration into the realm of the imagination, of dreams. I am having so much fun with the surreal weirdness, but today I wanted to re-share this collage piece because it holds a very special place in my heart. It is one of the first pieces I completed that made me step back and say, "holy shit, I can be a real artist."
