Been haunted by a character design I've been trying to figure out for MONTHS and today is when I'm finally getting somewhere.
I know it's just a silhouette but that's my workaround for posting comic work while I'm still cooking up ideas. In time the full design will be revealed as she's an important character✨

The culprits
The only thing that’s stayed consistent in my story is that faeries are always the source of everyone’s problems

love the concept art for this series, really hyped for it! any magical girl series recs? (animes/mangas, or other webcomics?) I know idwtbamg, watched shugo chara and some tokyo mew mew as a kid, but wanna try to get familiar with the genre's tropes more since you mentioned in another ask that this series has a lot of stuff you wish was explored more and I realized I dont know a lot of the 'norms'
I think Sailor Moon is definitely on top of the list (I’m actually watching it for the first time!) Cardcaptor Sakura and Pretty Cure would also be a good starting point?
The genre is pretty diverse in what it offers. Some have strict magic systems while others have no rules, any theme you can think of some show has probably already done it, and some series are more mature than others. Most of the trope stuff I’ve talked about comes from the fact that there’s not that much stuff about what happens to magical girls after they become adults. Nowadays I don't look at much magical girl stuff as I used to, mostly shounen and seinen (which I kinda want to inject aspects of into my series lol).
If want to learn more about the genre I also recommend @magicalgirlayu podcast “Sparkleside Chats” where they talk about magical girl and magical girl adjacent/inspired media.

What’s your progress on your webcomic? Any plans for an animated adaptation? Any thoughts on making a series of Bud plushies from the Makeship website? Along with other faerie mascots? Who would you want to voice each character?
It’s still in the writing stage. I have a general idea of how the story will go it's just a matter of getting the details down. I’ve made other comics in the past, just not as long as this one so I’ve been learning a lot along the way.
The comic is actually based off a one-shot I made years ago. You can read it here if you’re curious (it was originally a magical girl parody) but for now this is just a hobby project of mine so don't expect a release date anytime soon.

What’s Bud’s deal as a character besides mascot? Who’s the green faerie with the metal collars?
Bud is the guardian to The Chrysalis, a powerful artifact from the faerie realm. He escapes to the human world to protect it from the new faerie king who has plans that could bring ruin to their world. He might look like your typical mascot right now, but that's actually not his true form.
Even though Bud is powerful he actually doesn’t have the power to create magical girls…it’s all The Chrysalis’s doing.
The cat faerie gets dragged along by accident during his escape to earth. A lot of the drawings I've made of her so far only show her good side, she’s actually rude most of the time lol. She was a royal scholar back in the faerie realm.
The collars she wears do serve a purpose: they can be activated by magic to store items (neck collar) and act as a light source (tail collar).

How long have you been writing your currently unreleased webcomic? Are you going to have it on your own website, or a platform like webtoon/which is better in your opinion? Do you have name for your project? Do you have any advice for anyone making their first webcomic? Sorry to bombard you with so many questions, but I'm currently in the process of writing/concepts for one, too, and you seem to be professional... please and thanks (.__ . ")
I started working on it in 2021 but I was struggling with what direction I wanted to take with the story and ended up scrapping/reworking it alot. I was also working on other projects at the time and it wasn't until last year that I started to get somewhere with the story.
I plan to host it on my own site when the time comes (I'm learning coding on the side to help with that). I might mirror it on other sites but the issue with hosting it on a platform like webtoon is they have restrictions on content and I don't like the idea of censoring myself, especially on a site that can change its rules on a whim.
All my projects that I don't have an official name for I usually give them a silly acronym. For my webcomic project it's UMGP (Untitled Magical Girl Project) so clever I know.
When it comes to making your first webcomic my advice is to make it small. My first one was less than 10 pages but the reason I say that is I've seen too many people commit to making a webcomic, not realizing how much of a work/time commitment it is but also burning out because of lack of experience. I don't consider myself an expert in these things. I just like reading comics, sometimes I make them, but also like sharing my knowledge. Hope this helps!
