Today is my dog Kami's last day. I've known this was coming for a while, yet this is likely going to be one of the hardest days of my life. I wanted to say some words for her, put her story on the internet so she might, in spirit, outlive us all.

We got Kami by accident. When I was a kid, my parents and I went to a party at a friend's house. While my parents played Pool in the garage, a skinny dog walked up and claimed us. She had no chip, no collar, and by some injuries she had, it looked like she may have been abused.

We did our best to give Kami the life she wanted. We got her sister, Missy, not too long after. Kami had problems with her hips, which needed a surgery we could not afford. We did our best with pain meds, but after a point, she became numb to them. She spends most days in a lot of pain now, and has become a very grumpy dog because of it.

Kami still has good days, which is why we fought to keep her alive. We thought that even one more good day would be worth the effort. However, today marks the second time Kami has gotten into a vicious fight with the other dogs, and we've decided it's no longer safe for any of our dogs to be around her.

Kami was a good dog. She didn't deserve what happened to her. I have a firm belief that, whatever happens after, it's better than her life down here. Thank you, Kami, for being a part of our family. I'm gonna miss you a lot.
