luna who initially starts out as warm and welcoming and helpful to the party only to leave ardyn stabbed through with her staff at the altar — this is her accepting her destiny. she initially believed she could cure the scourge without anyone dying/conflict including herself, but then she witnesses ot4 + healer!ardyn and realises that the only place the world has left for her is to play the part of the Accursed. ..... “my duty is my destiny” the hella bitter 2.0 remix,,,, tldr loneliness and imperial occupation can fuck someone up

on the flip side,

ardyn, a jaded healer who highkey hates bahamut and the astrals, is sort of going for broke here hoping the fated king/oracle/accursed will stick it to the asshole gods who forced him into essential eternal servitude

or maybe it’s like the sin of the lucis caelum line is that they killed the first oracle aera, so somnus was bound by the crystal and his line became the doomed kings of lucis, whereas ardyn was just straight up told “lmao you killed her, you’re gonna take up her job until the next fated oracle comes around” so he’s just bitterly waiting around healing because if he lets the world be overrun by scourge before fated oracle/luna comes around theyre all: fucked

cherry on top of the cake: ardyn being sort of like that infamous lucis caelum uncle figure that most of the kings have, noct growing up with his snarky sort of weird uncle who really said “fuck the gods!” that one time and almost got them kicked out of some important annual mass or smth
