“Rue!!”
I think everyone was just as astonished as Ahiru when we first saw Mytho’s true form as Prince Siegfried, the fairytale prince. Even more so when he let out that cry for Rue in order to reach her within the Monster Raven. The evolution of his character from one of complete passivity to a brave and noble prince shook a lot of people and this form of his is arguably a fan favorite. 🫅
Of course Mytho wouldn’t have regained his Siegfried form without his last heart shard: the shard of Hope. Hope is also the most well known symbols associated with snowdrop flowers. As their name suggests, snowdrops can bloom while snow is still on the ground in early spring, signifying the triumph of hope and new beginnings.

“My heart, I want to get my heart back”
Mytho is an interesting character within the story of Princess Tutu. The entire plot revolves around returning his heart, yet we don’t really learn much about what his personality is like until much later in the story precisely because he has no heart. In his heartless state he’s often described in-universe as being “like a doll”, someone delicate and beautiful but with no will of his own.
The flower I chose for Mytho is the snowdrop: a delicate white flower dangling at the end of a thin peduncle. Its daintiness also reminds me of how Mytho is very much a gender invert “damsel in distress”, with Kraehe determined to keep him for herself by any means necessary. This piece was inspired by a pivotal scene in the season 1 finale, after a certain character shatters Mytho’s magic sword, which then fly away as two golden swans. 🦢

Moonie Fan Collections on Instagram is planning to turn some of my Sailor Moon designs, a series which we’ve dubbed Flores Aurei (Latin for “golden flowers”), into enamel pins!
Sailor Pallas is up first, with preorders opening on April 30th. Preorders for the other Quartet are shown in the schedule in Moonie’s Instagram Story image above.
The number of preorders placed will determine how many (if any at all!) of these designs get made. So if you’d like to see these 4 (and possibly other designs 😜) get made into enamel pins, please give Moonie a follow on Instagram and keep an eye out for updates there!

Me: look up medical condition to give to an unnamed tertiary character in a semi-obscure early 2000s Japanese cartoon as part of a reimagined historical AU 🤔

“The depths of despair…. I feel so calm here. I won’t be tricked by anyone anymore, and I don’t have to resent anyone!”
Hellebore flowers also symbolize anxiety, deceit, and paradoxically, calm. Rue is constantly being watched by her father’s crow minions and she worries endlessly over whether her father and Mytho would abandon her. In a final act of desperation, she offers her own heart to appease her father. The calm resignation on her face as a murder of crows carried her off to the Monster Raven’s domain really drives home how cruel the story was towards her.

“That's right I am a crow, and I alone am the true prima donna, Princess Kraehe!”
With her provocative costume, dramatic eye shadow, and cunning machination Kraehe is at once sensuous, beautiful, and ruthless. What better flower to pair her with than the hellebore.
Though these flowers are beautiful, with petals ranging from swan white to raven black, they are also poisonous. In large quantities, the toxins from some hellebore species can cause cardiac arrest. It’s therefore rather apt for a crow princess who tries to stop the prince from regaining his heart. 💔

I’m planning to start working on Rue/Kraehe next, and since I’m also posting the artwork in this series on Instagram, I get to pick a piece of music to go along with it. I already know I wanna use the music from scene 2 of Giselle for Rue…but I’m drawing a blank for Kraehe 😅 I’ve replayed the entire PT OST at least a half dozen times now, yet I still can’t pick a good piece for her 😓
Lemme know what your recommendations are in a comment. The only stipulation I have is that it needs to have been used in Princess Tutu.

“I have to write!”
Fakir’s role and power as a writer, rather than his sword, was what ultimately allowed him to save the people he loves. Just like writing, it was not easy, and literally cost him his blood, sweat, and tears. I think most viewers who watched the anime’s finale shed a few tears of their own, because I sure did!
While the blackthorn alludes to Fakir’s prickly personality, additional reasons why I chose to pair it with Fakir is because it’s sap can be used to make ink for writing, and in some pagan traditions it’s also associated with magic and witchcraft. It’s therefore quite appropriate for a character with magical powers through his written words. ✍️
Thank you to moonie_fan_collections for helping me check the German text on the pages! 📃

“I just want the power to protect people…”
Fakir is, without a doubt, one of my favorite characters from Princess Tutu. Though he starts out as being rather unlikable to say the least, we soon learn there are many sides to him, including the side that desperately wants to be able to protect the people he cares about. That desire to protect drove him to accept his fate as the reborn Knight from “The Prince and the Raven”.
The flower I chose for him is the blackthorn bush, which, like Fakir’s personality, is rather prickly, but it also has a protective side as well. 🗡️

Got done with sketches for Mytho/Siegfried today. To avoid confusion with swan!Tutu, I specifically drew two swans for Mytho. They represent his magical swan sword after it’d been broken apart by Fakir in the season 1 finale. And of course by the time he’s Siegfried again, the swans have reformed the sword, allowing him to fight the Raven.

Alright, I need a second opinion again! Why is Rue always the one that makes me question myself the most? It’s very meta, isn’t it? 😂 I’m pretty set with the design for Kraehe, but I’ve come up with three possible designs for Rue, and it’s all contingent on whether I should include some ravens or not.
The Rue piece is supposed to invoke the Dying Swan solo she does when she trapped by the Monster Raven. I’m not sure if having three ravens makes the composition too busy, but I thought having some ravens present would be a nice call back to the before mentioned scene from the anime, while also kind of mirroring Ahiru’s design where duck!Ahiru is next to human!Ahiru (ie one image has bird(s) the other also has bird(s), or something like that.
Anyway, lemme know which you prefer through the poll! Just keep in mind I’ll also have floral and star chart design in the background like the Tutu and Ahiru pieces, so it’s not gonna be completely empty in the back.
