What is a Dosha ?
According to Ayurvedic Medicine, the human body is a small representation of the universe. Just like the energies of the Wind, Sun and Moon are responsible for the phenomenon on earth, in our bodies these energies are represented by the doshas Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Kapha which are responsible for governing and influencing all the biological processes. ⠀
⠀Vata, the dosha is the source of all movement and activity, Pitta dosha is the source of heat and transformation, while Kapha dosha is the source of structure and growth.
These Vata Pitta Kapha exist at the cellular level. All exchange, and movement at the cellular level is carried out by Vata, all transformation by Pitta, and all repair, nourishment, and healing by Kapha. ⠀
⠀Applications of Doshas ⠀
Doshas are Panchabhautik in nature and made up of Five elements.⠀
Vata has a dominance of Space + Air, ⠀
Pitta a dominance of Fire + Water and ⠀
Kapha a dominance of Earth + Water⠀
⠀2. The three doshas naturally stay in harmony in the body supporting each other to carry out physiological functions even though they have opposing qualities, eg. in your digestive tract Samana Vayu stays in harmony with Pachak Agni to ensure the proper secretion of digestive juices.⠀
⠀3. Dosha can be defined as 'dushnaat dosha' which means that the one that can malign or create a pathological process if out of balance. So these doshas in your body need to be protected and balanced at all times, as if they go out of balance they are a recipe for an ailment.⠀
⠀4. The doshas are affected by our diets, lifestyle, seasons, thoughts, emotions as well as any other sensory inputs that feed our mind and body.⠀
⠀5. Vata dosha is considered supreme because it regulates all functions in the body including movement of the other two doshas.
