After a rainy morning cleared, I joined rugby friends to watch USA vs. Japan women’s rugby at UCLA—on the same field I played on decades ago. The match featured a delayed kickoff, a surprise sprinkler incident, and Japan’s historic 39–33 win over the USA. Though only a few fans supported Japan, we later met rugby stars Alev Kelter and Ilona Maher & her sister, Olivia, capping off a memorable and meaningful day.

I had the privilege of participating in a staged reading of Oscar Valdes’s powerful new play, "I Am Putin."

Set between June and August 2023, during the real-life uprising of the Wagner Group as its leader Prigozhin marched toward Moscow, the play unfolds as a gripping political drama. The story weaves together fictionalized portrayals of Putin’s mistress, military advisers, Zelensky, Xi Jinping, spies, and young resistance fighters. It’s a turbulent, high-stakes tale that imagines how close the world may have come to a turning point.

Dan-san and I went to Denver, Colorado (so cold!!), to attend a surprise party for my college rugby buddy, Aaron. It was truly a blessing to experience such genuine camaraderie, especially while being surrounded by awe-inspiring nature. It’s nice to escape from LA once in a while. Actually, the party took place during the first week of January, just before the devastating LA fire. Please stay safe, resilient, and healthy!  😀😍👍👏🙏🏼👁️🌲🏔️👌💛🩷💚❤️

The status of my area remains the same—one step before an 'Evacuation Warning' in West LA. A red flag warning is still in effect. The air looks much cleaner, but when I opened the trunk of my car, I saw ashes drifting in. It’s wise to wear a mask. We’re all rooting for the firefighters and praying for nature. The fictional one-night interaction involves Stalin, Zhdanov, Prokofiev, and Shostakovich in 1948, depicting Stalin’s control over artistic expression. The dynamic performances and spontaneous musical interludes captured the era’s oppressive atmosphere. Despite my limited knowledge of the historical figures, the play's intensity and humor were gripping. Meeting Ilia Volok, who played Stalin, added to the experience. The play reminds us of the importance of artistic freedom. Highly recommended!

A delightful luncheon with Adele Yoshioka-san, a.k.a. “Sunny”!!😀😉👍🙏🏼🍽️🎬🧡

I had a delightful luncheon with Adele Yoshioka-san, a.k.a. “Sunny,” at a fantastic authentic Mexican restaurant called CASABLANCA in Venice. 

When I was a late adolescence, I watched “Magnum Force (a.k.a. “Dirty Harry 2” for the Japanese Title)” at the local revival movie theater in Tokyo. I vividly remembered “Sunny,” a beautiful, attractive Asian female character. It was extremely rare to see an authentic Asian character back then. 

Anyway, years later fate would intertwine our paths once more when I got to know her in Hollywood. She is such a lovely person. Life has been interesting and blessing. It’s been a truly surreal experience, movie magic!
