happy thanksgiving!

it’s the holidays now, which means being around family and people you don’t usually see. which will bring the questions about what you’ve been up to, if you have a boyfriend or girlfriend or if you look different, etc.

it is OKAY to hide your sexuality, gender, or partner from your family. please please STAY SAFE before anything else and know it is okay to lie about something to ensure that is the case. don’t put yourself in danger by telling a family member about your partner, having them call you new pronouns or coming out. it may suck ass to have to put up with different pronouns today, but please keep yourself safe before correcting anyone today or during the holidays. just know that you know who you are, you know your heart and that’s all that matters.

but by all means, if your family is accepting and you know they won’t put you in danger, come out. tell them who you are. this is a great time to do that. but keep yourself safe before coming out. just know that in a few years you and your husband/ wife/ spouse person will be celebrating the holidays and if you don’t want to put up with the other family, you don’t have to.

something that absolutely appalls me is that people support political candidates that don’t even stand up for their rights? why THE FUCK would you support someone who won’t fight for your rights? who doesn’t even like your exsistence? who won’t do anything to protect your rights or create equality for you? absolutely fucking appalling to me. wake the fuck up.

vote today. if you’re over 18, vote. there is no excuse to not vote. know who you’re voting for.

vote for someone who will stand up for your right to be heard. vote for someone who will stand up for equal rights for every person, no matter skin color, sexuality, gender, religion, disability, or any other thing that sets us apart. vote for someone who won’t be afraid to take a stand and won’t give up until justice is won. vote for someone who has a kind heart, who doesn’t resort to “bullying tactics”, who doesn’t resort to attacking the other candidate. vote for someone who will fight for afforadable healthcare for everyone, who will fight so the single mother can afford to keep her child well, so the high school football coach can receive chemotherapy to fight his cancer so his kids don’t have to see him die. VOTE for the right candidate who won’t back out of their word, who will continue to fight for equal rights, for EVERYONE, not just specific people. we all matter and we all deserve equal rights. vote today for someone who will represent the people who don’t get representation.

“i don’t concern myself with politics that don’t affect me” why?

“gay marriage doesn’t affect me so why bother speaking up about it?” because we need allies is why.

“police brutality doesn’t affect me so why speak up about it?” because they need fucking allies.

if you’re not using your voice to speak about issues that need to be spoken about, you’re doing something wrong. often times people don’t listen to the people it’s effecting, but people it isn’t. so if you aren’t using your voice to fight FOR something then they only people being listened to are the ones fighting against it. because you know even if you aren’t fighting for a change, there will always be people fighting against it so why let them be heard when you could do your part and fight the right fight?

if your philosophy is to only fight for things that affect you, change your mind. change your thoughts and change your heart. allies are important. allies are important. allies are important! and most of the time allies are the ones being taken seriously, not the effected.

speak up, say something, fight the right fight, and don’t be silent. we need your voice, use it.

today I had an encounter I hoped I’d never have to have- one that no one ever wants to have. I walked a girl on crutches to the elevator at school and went to get the key so she could go to lunch. there was already 2 guys in the elevator going down, so they held the door and she went to get on the elevator. she looked at me with pleading eyes and asked me very quietly over the loud noise of the hallway to get in the elevator with her. I didn’t hear her because I had my headphones in so I asked her again and she looked at the elevator and back at me as she was trying to walk to the elevator without being noticed by the guys who were holding the door open. I finally realized what she was asking me and of course I got on the elevator with her. a little girl in an elevator with 2 big guys by herself. no girl wants to be in the situation because of the potential of things that could happen— every women knows that fear, including myself. when we were on the elevator she gave a thankful smile and I hated that she had to feel the need to ask me on the elevator with her because she didn’t feel safe with 2 guys in an elevator by herself for 1 minute. men, and some women, don’t seem to understand this fear. they don’t understand how a women could possibly fear being alone with a man they don’t even know, what’s gonna happen right? wrong. that’s how shit does happen because women’s fear of men is constantly being invalidated. it’s real and I have felt it several times myself. it’s not fun, it’s not a joke, it’s not an exaggeration, it’s real.

Tips For Note Taking / Studying

Here are some tips for you high school / college students for keeping up with your notes in class:

Don’t take straight notes (continuously writing).

Don’t take stuff down word for word, summarize / write what is important.

Write the main idea in a topic sentence

   - and take other info

   - about that topic in bullets below that

Try to use colors if possible (but some teachers / professors may go so quickly you don’t have time, so enhance the topic / bullet system).

Take a picture of the slideshow if the notes are written.

If the professor is verbally teaching (no form of the notes written down) try to record the lesson, that way you can go back later and write down whatever you may have missed.

If you aren’t allowed to take pictures of the slideshow / notes, ask your teacher / professor if they have uploaded the presentation to any type of online platform for you to access, if they haven’t ask them to email the presentation to you. Most teachers / professors are willing to take the extra step to make sure their students succeed, so don’t be afraid to ask.

Compare your notes with friends in the same class (the professor may have told their class something he/she didn’t tell yours. Your friend may have caught something he/she said that you didn’t).

Take the extra online quizzes / practices provided to you or find your own to help you.

If your handwriting is messy / you might not remember what it said, type up your notes either during class (if allowed) or once you get home / out of your lesson.

Make flashcards with vocabulary words / important information even if you don’t think it will help you, because you may need them later.

If you didn’t have time to process the material covered in your lesson (you only had time to copy it down), go home and re-write your notes and make sure you fully understand the material. Writing out things helps your brain remember them better. It is always better to be redundant that to be unsure.

USE YOUR RESOURCES!! Study your textbook, notes and even go into the teacher if you need help. Don’t be afraid to get help / take the time so that you succeed.

I had someone comment on my sarahah saying that i was "obsessed" with b (my crush) and that it was weird. right now, because of my life being so crazy, i'm not getting to hang out with friends or do a bunch after school or on the weekends. i'm crazy stressed because of some of my classes and it will get easier next week, but for now b is the one thing keeping me sane and happy. i'm sorry if you are annoyed by my "obsession" with b but to me, my happiness and sanity isn't annoying. so if you have an issue with someone being the reason my mental health is stable, maybe you need to rethink yourself. but get over it that i have a crush and that i want to talk about it. i'm sorry that your life is so boring that you think it's obsessive to have feelings for someone.

Today, Harry and Ginny sent Albus Severus off to Hogwarts for the first time. As they crossed the barrier to Platform 9 3/4, we all had them in our hearts. Today is Sept. 1, 2017, 19 years later. Today, the story so special to so many people, closed its last chapter. Goodbye, and we'll see you next year.
