Yesterday afternoon a tiny ball of feathers, otherwise known as a Pacific Wren, snuck into our cabin through a window cracked open, and began to fly around in a panic.
The cat of course, lept into action, determined to catch and consume this intruder and I flew after him desperate to prevent that. The wren dove into a corner dedicated to boots and jackets and disappeared in seconds. Nearby was the large sliding door, so I held the cat back with one arm, opened the door and began rustling around in the layers of cloth and rubber rain slickers, tapping boots and rearranging shoes, hoping to flush him out for an escape.
There was no sign of movement and my thorough search seemed to satisfy the cats curiosity as well. I wondered if perhaps the wren had managed to fly back across the cabin unnoticed and escaped out the original window.
I closed everything up again and went back to my crochet. About 30 min later there was a flurry of activity again as the wren flew to the kitchen window from whatever hiding spot he had found. The cat went diving across the counter and I followed suit.
Luckily this time I could open the window and guide the poor bird out before it sought shelter somewhere else. For the rest of the afternoon the cats tail was twitching as he glared out the window into the yard. Probably beyond pissed that I was home as all the action occurred.

When the water lights on fire...
In the winter the sea water is often warmer than the air temps in the morning, resulting in this beautiful steam at sunrise.

Our outdoor, propane heated, rainwater shower. Best views on earth but wickedly cold if the wind blows out the flame on the heater!

Kitchen window essentials. The binoculars are the most vital - for checking on approaching boats or viewing the ducks and otters!

Our commute to town involves a canoe and a boat! You can easily imagine why being storm bound is a regular occurrence through the winter.
