My name is Marie-Noëlle Wurm and I am a multidisciplinary artist who paints, draws, creates puppets, lives at night and loves chocolate. My paintings are often filled with whimsical creatures that seem lost, floating in undefinable worlds that are colorful and strange. In my work, I strive to explore the hidden, the subconscious, the places of the mind that are forgotten, and mysterious places of beauty. What keeps me awake at night are these creatures in our minds - the ones we don't always know are there. I have an online etsy shop and a Facebook page Twitter: @marienoellewurm Email: [email protected] Here are some of the items you can find in my Etsy shop:

This is part of a series called “The secret gardens” - In reference to the book and movie I loved as a child, but also as a reminder that the plants we see around us can give us the opportunity to pause in the midst of our busy lives - to stop and appreciate the beauty of their growth, their diverse shapes, their transience. They’re quiet living things that whisper a particular kind of wisdom to those who lean in. The frame I found for this is a pewter-colored vintage-looking frame and it’s in my Etsy shop! (I’ve been doing a big update recently, can you tell?? 😋) The link is in my profile. . . . #botanicaldrawing #botanicalillustration #plantdrawing #plants #wisdomofplants #drawing #illustration #penandink#floatingisland #floatinggarden #garden #tinygarden #slowliving #floating #blackandwhiteart #greenthumb #plantlover — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/2KFqORR

Every year or two, a story emerges out of the lines and the shapes, and I put it together into a zine. They are works of visual poetry, where words and images work together to create a haunting yet tender atmosphere of whispered secrets and flickering lights in the dark. The first one I ever made is called Dark Houses, the second is called Weavings and the third, my most recent one, is called Hidden Hills. The words are sparse, but there is a lot to read within the images, and within yourself as you read them. It’s the first time I get my zines printed in an A5 size and I love love love the paper they’re printed on (it’s all soft and velvety). I only have 15 of each, and they’re finally up in my Etsy shop! This little secret garden in a frame found a new home. It’s a real vintage frame - I got it in a house that belonged to an elderly lady who had recently passed away. I waited for a number of years to find the right thing to draw in it, and I was so happy when I finally figured it out. It seems only fitting that a frame with so much time and history attached to it became the home of an island of plants that represents the passing of time, transience, a love of nature, and also, the possibility of movement, of air, of growth. . . . #botanicaldrawing #botany #floatingisland #drawing #illustration #vintageframes #artistsoninstagram #arte_of_nature #natureart #linedrawing #penandink #islands #roundart #highlysensitiveperson #highlysensitive #wabisabi #transience #impermanence — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/2jWT7jp

Sometimes the night whispers secrets to those who lean in. Its wisdom is boundless, like the hidden depths within us. Lean into it. Last summer, I adopted two baby birds in need of rescue. Their names were Adeya & Bobby and I loved them both immeasurably. Before having them, I never realized that small birds could have such distinct personalities, ways of communicating and being and loving. Or that they could be depressed like how Bobby was when we found him; that they could heal from it & find the will to live again after losing it at such a young age. Taking care of these little swifts was one of the most beautiful (and exhausting!) things I’ve ever done. Adeya made it and Bobby didn’t, though he came so, so far, and I often think of them, these two little warriors who taught me so much about love and care and giving yourself entirely to something else. When Adeya flew off, she was strong and beautiful and joined a huge group of swifts before leaving for the long journey South. A week or two ago, the swifts reappeared in the skies above Montpellier & I know Adeya is up there somewhere, alive and well. And that makes me happy beyond words. And I think of Bobby and the seagull that attacked him when he flew off, and I remember that he was here to show me that even in the saddest of moments, there still is immense beauty. He was a reminder that Nature is not kind nor cruel - it just IS, and it’s our role to learn to accept that, to accept the beauty & destruction it gives us, take the love and the grief, and know deep down that it’s all worth it. I miss you little warriors. ❤️ . . . #bird #birdlover #birdlove #illustration #nest #drawing #penandink #feathers #brushpen #birdlovers #beautyinnature #beautyinthesky #simplicity #highlysensitive #hsp #highlysensitiveperson #bringspring_challenge #flyaway #birds #swift #babybird — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/2JUHmot

If you’ve been following my story, you might have seen me drop the name “project mossweaver” here and there. It’s a 90 day goal I set up thanks to the awesome planner for creatives called DreamPlanDo by @thedesigntrust. The idea is to make a juicy goal to work on for 90 days - juicy in the sense that you get excited, motivated & all-around pumped with the idea of accomplishing it. As a freelancer, I realized at the end of 2017 that a lot of my time was getting eaten up by admin, accounting, emails, Etsy shop maintenance, & computer work, and that the most important part of my job – drawing, improving my skills & creating new work - was taking a serious leap towards the backseat. It was taking a serious toll - I was losing my sense of purpose, my creative spark was withering away, & I was feeling more & more like a failure every day. So I decided to battle that with my 90 day goal of reintegrating drawing into my daily routine, at least 5 days a week. 3 months later, I’m super happy & proud to say that I accomplished that goal & can see the difference, not only in my work but also in my mindset. I’ve made a bunch of new drawings; I’ve been getting better every day at the things I struggled with like perspective & anatomy; I created my 3rd self-published zine Hidden Hills, a story about traveling inwards to find the hidden hills & quiet creatures that live within us; I’ve signed an illustration contract for a book getting published in June; and, most of all, I’ve refound my sense of purpose. I believe in the power of small things. I believe in the power of kindness, to ourselves and to others. I believe in the capacity of art to make us grow & change & become better people, by speaking to the emotional parts of ourselves that need so much love and care in a world that is sometimes cruel. I believe in the power of beauty that exists in all things, even in the dark, which we so often shun and shy away from. But when we turn towards it, when we embrace those parts we’d rather not see, that’s when the tiny fragile creatures that live in the darkness can finally come out to tell us all the beautiful things they’ve learned. That’s when we become whole. — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/2qScWw5

What’s fascinating about art tools is that each one of them has a very distinct personality - a way that it approaches paper, the textures it creates, the feel it has, the unique way it reacts with other tools & materials. Each one has something different to say & transmits a different kind of energy, whether it’s rough, smooth, playful, abrasive, melancholic or energetic. The most important choice you make when drawing is which tools you’re going to use and how you will let them speak through you. They all have stories to tell - it’s our job to slow down, pay attention and really listen to their hidden tales. 🙂 Some of the tools I use: watercolor (in pans & in tubes), graphite (I like a dark 4B or 6B), my more recent favorites, the Rotring Artpens & the Pentel brush Pen; acrylic ink, Micron pens, Art & Graphic twin markers, Woody Stabilo crayons (the thick ones on the bottom left), Lumocolor, and basically any new tool that falls into my hands. . . . #marchmeetthemaker #marchmeetthemaker2018 #meettheartist #toolsandmaterials #artisttools @pentel_eu @rotringofficial @stabilofrance @holbein_eu @winsorandnewton @winsor_and_newton_aquarelle @fabercastellglobal #drawing #illustration #flatlay #whatiuse #inthestudio #artist #artistry_dark #artistes #dessins #dessinatrice #womenartists — view on Instagram http://ift.tt/2HSKrVo
