HUMAN BODY THEATER is out today! This is very first graphic novel that I have both WRITTEN and DRAWN; you might call it my book-baby. (This photo was taken in my nerdy, nerdy office.) Human Body Theater is 240 pages of comics all about the human body, how it works and how to take good care of it. It’s targeted towards kids ages 10-14, but I hope that kids and adults of all ages will enjoy it. I’ll be posting a list of Human Body Theater-related events later today (including my whole schedule for New York Comic Con). WOOOOO!!! GUTS!!!!!!!
You can order a copy here, or pick one up from your favorite bookstore.
(Oh, and this is where I got my awesome organs shirt: https://www.threadless.com/product/3016/Hugs_Keep_Us_Alive )

New book cover reveal!! That’s right; I wrote and illustrated a comic book about coral reefs! It won’t be out until May 2016, but you can read lovely write-up and preview from Betsy Bird of School Library Journal here: http://blogs.slj.com/afuse8production/2015/09/16/maris-wicks-cover-reveal-coral-reefs/

In less than a month, Human Body Theater will be making its debut(t)! Have you ever wanted to read a 240-page comic book about your very own fantastic human body? Well, now you can. This book includes classic hits like “Why Do We Yawn?”, “How Does a Cut Get Infected?” and “Where Do Farts Come From?”. There are elaborate dance routines by oxygen molecules in tutus and a chorus line of infectious diseases (because I though everyone would want to see a bacterium in fishnet stockings).
I’ll be posting some teasers from the book over the next few months, so stay tuned!
Look for Human Body Theater on Oct 6 (or you can pre-order it here)!

I live-streamed the DARPA Robotics Challenge over the weekend, and then was...inspired (to draw robots). I really wish that there was a “freestyle” event, where the robots could just dance, or make breakfast, or play hopscotch.
