Recently back from a great run of gigs at Moers Festival. Nice reviews coming back for the Led Bib show (see below!). Album is out on August 29th on Cuneiform Records - BUT, if you want a sneak preview - we've got a SINGLE OUT! Here is the link to spotify....yeah yeah...I know....but you can get it on any streaming service of your choice AND it's the only track from the album that will stream....have a look! - https://open.spotify.com/track/430WX5xG62SNnkHs1knP8E?si=e2917375767f45ec "In their journey over ten albums they have evolved away from pithy head-improvisation based structures with an ever more sophisticated integration of elements born of their strong bond. With Liran’s expanding bass fx rack and their classic double alto format newly supplemented with Pete taking on a tenor and good use of Chris’s fierce baritone sax, they really blew the roof off that open air stage." https://ukjazznews.com/moers-festival-2025-i/?fbclid=IwY2xjawK98ZRleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBicmlkETFROVpYYllTaWZhNkpRWEF4AR7-8-FEwfafCdGkEnbdQvxhpcj8dw_zN1LhfYHfeQXqpqkWBOEL83UA8JlmOg_aem_xFwcX6ZkeltekCt0pcvajw

Just back from a lovely tour with Extempore launching our new album! And, I have just realised that my PhD thesis has found its way online. Should anyone want to read it, it's here: http://dx.doi.org/10.7488/era/5983
Lots of fun stuff coming up, Moers with Led Bib, more gigs with Hans Tschiritsch around Vienna, back at Impulstanz this summer, Led Bib touring in autumn, and some Blueblut action coming up TBA. Will venture to get everything up on the website asap!

Balancing writing a PhD thesis, looking after two kids and being a freelance musician is not leaving loads of time for website updates BUT, most of my gigs in the next few months are now up on the site AND, here is the new album from Anthropods! Available in the shops(are there still shops that sell CDs?) in May, but available from Klanggalerie NOW.

I remember when I started this site, I had a feeling that I would regularly update things....well...I haven’t fulfilled this dream. And I still need to update the gigs page, as there are quite a few things that are likely to happen in 2022....but that will have to wait a little bit...
Firstly, I was searching for something else and stumbled across this, which I am not sure I knew existed until now. Anyway, as part of my PhD work, I am interviewing a number of bandleaders, and one of them is the great Jan Kopinski. When searching for some of his stuff on the internet I found THIS....
youtube
I really like the music Jan did from Mirrors, and I had the distinct pleasure of getting to play on it once(or perhaps twice, I can't remember!!), subbing for the great Pat Ilingworth. Here are a few clips of music and Jan talking about the project.
Also in the news at the moment is that I have my first published paper! The people at the University of Edinburgh's Musicology journal were so kind to include a piece I wrote about composing for improvisers in their latest edition. You can read it, along with all the other papers here: https://doi.org/10.2218/music.2021.6483 I still am not sure about my academic writing...but they obviously thought it was good enough to publish, so what do I know...see for yourself!

Well, it has certainly been an interesting time.....gigs have been VERY quiet, but a few records have come out recently. Two new releases on SLAM are out now. One of Alessandro Vicard’s fiendishly difficult to play music with Perlin Noise
And another with Viola Falb and Bernd Satzinger playing improvised music!
A session I did ages ago for the BBC with Marcus Hamblett and James Holden came out along with a limited edition physical release which is now sold out as I took too long to post about it...anyway, you can take a listen here:
BBC Sessions: Live at Maida Vale by James Holden, Marcus Hamblett and Mark Holub
And now, I even have a few gigs coming up...some which I am still not sure will happen, but some that almost definitely will! And in these strange times, I unearthed an amazing Led Bib set complete with video from 2014, which should be released online shortly...more soon!

Busy times....with a number of new releases coming up....Out this month is Alessandro Vicard’s Perlin Noise, out on SLAM Productions! We will be announcing some shows with that shortly too!
Also coming out on SLAM shortly will be a new improv trio recording with Viola Falb and Bernd Satzinger. Album is out in April(I think), but we are doing a sort of pre-launch (where we will have the CD) in March at the Blue Tomato in Vienna!
A recording I did quite awhile ago for the great BBC programme late junction, with Marcus Hamblett and James Holden is going to be released for record store day...more details soon! Also, there is a new Blueblut record to be released in May...!
AND - here is a little documentary about the latest Led Bib project. We are planning a short tour of cinemas which hopefully we can announce in the next month or so. Stay tuned for more!

Some news on the Led Bib front....our new album ‘It’s Morning’ is coming out on September 27th on RareNoise Records....it’s something a bit different for us, a sort of song suite, which we worked on with the great Sharron Fortnam and Jack Hues.
We also are working with Dylan Pecora, who is making a film for the whole project which we will be playing live to.....he made a little trailer for it, and it’s here!
youtube
This project will be hitting he road for a few shows this autumn alongside the film, and I am looking forward to it immensely!
Also, coming up this autumn are another tour with Colin Webster supporting our new album out on Raw Tonk, and a tour with Blueblut supporting our new album Andenborstengürteltier....more details when they are all finished!
Hope to get some more live dates up on this site....working on that at the moment! And if you are at Impulstanz in Vienna this year, come say hello, I am playing for most of the festival over at the Arsenal!

On what is a little after the 1 year anniversary since I last posted something on here.....I thought it was high time for a little update. I’m just back from a great tour with Colin Webster promoting our new album out now on Raw Tonk Records. You can take a listen here:

There is actually a lot of stuff brewing on the recording front....coming out at the end of 2019 is a new Led Bib song suite with the great Sharron Fortnam, also a new Blueblut album, a new trio album with Viola Falb and Bernd Satzinger, and the debut album from Perlin Noise... But first, this one is coming out in April and is something I worked on many years ago with Jack Hues and The Quartet and the great Syd Arthur from Canterbury, it's out in April and we are doing a tiny tour to support it then, so hope to see you out there!
