Figure drawing is one of the trickiest, but I think most fulfilling, aspects of drawing to work on- and I’m delighted to be helping this excellent adult student practice ✨✨✨. ••• #markmakersclub #artclass #art #teachingart #drawing #drawingclass #figuredrawing #neverstoplearning (at Springfield, Oregon) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8fdghoAbx8/?igshid=glwz8ikvz9qi

Artist of the Month for February is... Barbara Hepworth! Being my return back from maternity break, I wanted to choose an artist who was also a mother and this wonderfully emotive modern sculptor came to mind. Artists this month will be able to draw from her works, create mini sculptures, or simply discuss how they feel about her work. More info about this artist in the next newsletter (get in touch if you’d like me to added). ••• #artteachersofinstagram #arthistory #teach #barbarahepworth #sculpture #modernsculpture #artclass (at Barbara Hepworth Museum) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8KxxHUgefe/?igshid=1nikzio7rh48r

Kids most welcome and art shows can be a great experience for budding artists 🤗 #Repost @feather.death.crown with @get_repost ・・・ Nearby friends, come see some of my ongoing Fairy Tale work, mostly ink and watercolors, at Island Park Gallery. Join me at the opening reception on October 12, part of the Springfield Art Walk! Kids welcome, drinks and snacks will be there too (always a big draw for me at art openings 🤓). Hope to see you there! Oh and all work is for sale so you can take the enchantment home with you ✨❤️✨ Just saying. ••• #artistlife #gallery #artgallery #artshow #openingreception #localart #supportartists #fairytales #newwork #watercolor #inkandwatercolor #elizabethblue https://www.instagram.com/p/BoffDwOBdnn/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=iqgluuilhi57

I adore how these balloon (and hand!) prints turned out. A very fun and active way to make art, by preschool-kindergarten artists. https://www.instagram.com/p/BocJTD-BE7F/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=s5muwgkzjg5h

Our October Artist of the Month (the first of this part of the curriculum!) is the French Symbolist artist, Odilon Redon. I wanted to share an artist who works with the “shadow side” since it’s the beginning of Fall, and nearing Halloween and generally a beautiful and sometimes spooky time of year. Redon definitely was interested in shadows and worked with dream-like and symbolic imagery more than what things look like in reality. I love his quote “ I love that which has never been”. That’s the real magic of art, to me, that we can create whatever we want. We can create images of things outside physical reality. Sometimes we think of accomplished artists and being able to portray reality accurately... but I see it another way. Technique is great but we should also see “accomplished” art as that which shows the artists’ personal view of the world. This month’s artist challenge, if you’re up for it, is to create an image of a dream, even if it’s scary or strange. We’ll be talking about his work in classes this month and thinking about if this inspires students to work a little differently. Very cool transfer drawing which creates two pieces of art in one. This nine year old artist drew with a hard pencil on one side and then rubbed the other side with oil pastels. ••• #markmakersclub #artclass #drawing #representationaldrawing #transferdrawing #crayonrubbing #kidart #chilrensart
