So, i got an ask today that really perked me up:
because if thereās anything that perks me up from a slump itās me teaching people things

Glad you clicked here! Letās get started.
So, like troublingbubbles asked, how do I choose to draw unique characters?
My answer is simply diversity, but not the one you;re thinking of.
Diversity can be placed into two categories: thereās Diversity that focuses on ethnic/social/religious attributes of one character. This includes skin colour, religious background, cultural background, hobbies, social status, etc.
The other is diversity that is physical. Physical Diversity. This is where characters look physically different. This includes facial features, height, build, weight, hair colour, hair type, etc.
So, weāre going to focus on Physical Diversity, since thatās what people have a problem with these days. Like, avoiding Same Face Sydrome. You know, where characters look exactly the same. Anime seems to the main culprit when it comes to the lack of physical diversity.
So, Iām going to bring up Love Live.
I can assure you Iām not gong to bash the series; a lot of my friends enjoy the show and its characters. Iām sure a lot of people have good opinions about the show. Iām just looking at it from an outward perspective.
Iām sure that Love Liveās cast of characters have very unique personalities, problems, and characters arcs.
But can I seeĀ that in them? Thatās my problem.
Can I see a personality trait from these girlās faces apart fromĀ
moe mooee~
sure, its endearing in its own right, but all i can take away from this face is a cute girl. I canāt see any defining personality traits or something that I can visually connect to. The only character I do recognise from Love Live is Nico, because I can recognise her from her bows and hair style (And perhaps that one meme floating around.)
But other than that, I canāt connect to the rest of the cast.
Another series with lack of physical diversity is touhou, a series i deeply love, with similar problems, only this time its in the face:
The four girls above are the same in height, build, and facial features.
The reason I recognise these characters is due to colour scheme and clothing, but thatās a whole different beast that I may need to explain on a separate post.
But this is the reason why i draw them like this:
SO.
If youāre asking how I would improve on character diversity, it would be to focus on these key features:
-face shape
-eye shape
-mouth
-standard expression
Iām going to show you my four main ocs
Nothing special, right? Theyāre just quite doodles. Letās analyse them:
[lucio voice] AW YEAH LETāS BREAK IT DOWN
Here, we can see physical differences demonstrated in facial features. Theyāve also got a different standard expression. This is the expression the use by default. Iām putting this in blue.
so now we can see these characters traits just by looking at them.Ā See what I mean when I say aĀ visual connection?
My OCs names donāt really matter, since we can recognise them by what they look like. We can connect to these characters because, by first glance, they look like fun human beings (sort of).Ā
The same can be applied to my touhou doodles. Yet again, names donāt matter, since we can recognise them by looks:
Letās compare them to their canon designs, shall we?
I think you guys are starting to see my point now. Physical diversity is very important when creating a unique set of characters. Its a technique that can be translated into any style, so I encourage you to use it.
Thatās all I got for now. I hope you find my advice helpful! Remember to drop this a reblog if you think your friends and followers would find this information helpful.

Beat Takeshiās NES game is out today on mobile ā
Takeshi no Chousenjo, the intentionally hateful, painful to play Famicom game, is being rereleased on iOS and Android today in Japanā¦ with new content?
A new area can be accessed by airplane, calledĀ āAmelia,ā home to Broadway and celebrities (and a new chiptune by Zuntata!) Also, thereās now a function to help learn the foreign language that your character can learn.Ā
This fall, Taito will also sell this amazing Takeshi t-shirt:

If you publicly and unreservedly condemn the actions of Nazis in Charlottesville and elsewhere, including everything from quiet hate speech to vehicular terrorism, can you please reblog this post.
I think a few friends, a few followers, every Jew who happens across this post and my own heart could do with knowing that there are more of you out there than there are of them

I need your help, if it's possible.
Hello, Iām Rafa Knight!
I work at the Sega of America, doing some works for the Sonic Team, and sometimes some works for the Sonic the Hedgehog social media, as a freelancer 3D artist.
Itās a job that I like to do, but it has always been more like a secondary thing or a hobbie, because as much as I wanted, it is not something that give enough return to be my main job, maybe you understand how it is.
For these reasons my main job was on the Archie Comics, where I worked for about 2 years, which also was a very pleasant place to work, but that ended up canceling the comics where I worked.
Iāve been trying to look for some other main jobs, without much success, because in addition to being very rare to find any online application to what I do, on the few occasions where I found something, and get an answer, I get refused by presence issues, because most studios want employees to work within the company, and considering that I live in Brazil, I can only work through the Internet.
Since then, I have been looking for any kind of work, mainly because my financial situation is not okay, and I even thought about making commissions, or a patreon, however, I could not get initiative to making them, once it can end up leaving me in the same situation that Iām already.
So, as a last resort, I wanted to see if anyone knows, or meet someone who knows, of somewhere that is looking for freelance artists. Because this would help me a lot.
ā
And if you do not know nobody, if possible, share this post just to help me find someone who is interested in what I do. ā
I can not show much of the works that Iāve done in the last 2 years, since they are exclusive works that I did for the Sonic Team. But these are some of the other works that I posted on the internet.
Itās also possible to see some of them better in my artstation, and tumblr page:
