not to be insane on main but my friend pointed out something I haven’t noticed in GK’s chapter where koito gets kidnapped and I’m going a little coo-coo

pardon the russian frames, I can’t be bothered to find the ones in english, but look here: the second frame, ogata putting his hand on koito’s back after he hears that his father is going to let him die and apologizes for failing to be like his brother. is ogata showing fucking compassion here.

plus the fact that he gives him food and it couldn’t have been tsurumi’s orders since it’s the same snack he gave koito before and I could’ve ruined the whole plan

hmm. ogata showing something resembling humanity one time in the whole narrative and it’s when he’s pretending to be someone else. damn. fucked up if true!

Re-listening to old eps of The Penumbra Podcast for the first time in years and I forgot how clever and good the build up to the Ramses O'Flaherty arc was in season 2!

Oh, baby Pat, stuck in the audience while his ex gives a presentation. Oh, the baby. How do you just sit and deal with that? Especially when Put spots him and they make that moment of eye contact? My soul left the building for Pat in that moment. What a way to start a big event with your boss. He's literally trembling and Put is still staring. My beloved, this poor boy.

But also Put's face when he spots Pat. Oh, there is so much history here and I already can't wait for more.

He saw the name on the flowers and the pain, the instant tension, the way he wanted to withdraw into himself but couldn't because he was at work, because he was called into a new meeting and had to be available instantly. And he did it! He held himself together the whole time.

I love Pat, I love Jeng and I fully expect to love Put tbh and this is dangerous because I have definitely been known to develop second lead syndrome. @absolutebl I am a little fearful.

Well, if we're revealing our ages, I was (/still am) a big Starsky and Hutch fan, reading fic in rtf documents distributed round by email because there weren't really any online fanfic archives yet in those days. That show ended in 1980 but there's still an active and thriving, if small, fan community - I read a great new fic just the other day! The best shows never really die as long as there's still at least a handful of people who love it.

This work is incredible. It's amazing. It's a Vietnam au that I read it this weekend and it altered something in me down to my bones and spirit. When I think of flawless writing, impeccable pacing, and heart-stopping characterization, I will think of this fic moving forward.

Team, the writing exhibited here is seriously, deeply, ridiculously out of this world Good.

The author had their finger on the pulse of war time. Not for a single second did it feel performative or disrespectful--it was an exploration into Billy and Steve that I have never seen before, and it was PHENOMENAL.

I have a very close tie to the Vietnam war, through my granddad who was drafted pretty early on in the war and when the U.S. Government dropped Napalm on the wrong side, he was burned on over 85% of his body. He was never the same.

His PTSD was so bad that he had a constant wall separating him and the rest of our family. He was frozen in time. The happiest I ever saw him was when his war buddies came to visit, and I grew up thinking how sad it must be to go off and fight in a war for a country you don't believe in, and to never really come home once the bombs stopped falling.

My granddad, if he were alive today, would've been moved by this work.

The author who wrote this has such a tender and understanding grasp on humanity and the love that sprouts in the face of darkness. I laughed, and cried, and cared so deeply about every single one of these characters who, at their root and through incredible mastery of the craft, felt like real people.

I finished reading yesterday and I haven't stopped thinking about it since.

The author was able to give something back to those we lost. This fanfiction changed something in me, and it hasn't broken 1,000k hits yet.

They deserve their flowers. Please go read it, you won't be disappointed.
