HATS
No one knows when the hat was first invented, but it is speculated that it was developed around the same time people started developing clothes to protect against the elements. Though primary used to protect against the elements, hats were also a sign of status and royalty within society.
Cavalier Style

This type of hat can been seen in British Royal Court. They were of high standard and showcased royalty to the highest honor
Tricorne
Tricorne hats were worn by aristocrats as well as local civilians within military and naval uniforms. Its name comes from its 3 corners, as the sides of the brim were cooked. This cooked look had 2 functions, it allowed people to showcase new hairstyles, especially for those wealthy enough to maintain such high standards, as well as fit easily under the arm for when a man went indoors.
Bicorne
Similar but with 2 corners instead of 3 created a more pointed look, like Napoleon bonaparte
Top Hat

Is a top flat hat, with a flat wide brim, and worn by men in the late 1800’s. Mainly worn by upper class and used satiristic as a symbol of capitalism. It is also associated with magicians, and worn by politicians. At first it was such a fashion statement that people wore it everywhere. In 1812 someone tried to make a collapsable one for easy storage and carrying indoors and under the arm when needed
Coonskin

Using the whole racoon, from the head to the tail, the coonskin was a symbol of american and canadian frontiersmen, as well as very popular among boys scouts. Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone help popularize the hat amongst the youth
Pith Helmet

Also known as a safari hat, were worn by explorers and travelers. The hat gained popularity as it was used by officials and officers of many regions that were primarily in the tropics, as a symbol of colonial rule
Bowler Hat

A short round variation from the top hat, it was a more comfortable feel on the head, and more durable. It was popular with the working class, and eventually with the middle and upper class as well. This type of hat can be seen work famously by Charlie Chaplin
Slouch hat
A variation on the 3 flat brim cavalier style, but having one side pinned up to the hat. Commonly worn by military personnel, carrying rifles
Stenson
Through various alterations and minor changes the Stenson has become the most popular cowboy hat. Similar to the Stenson was the Gaucho as well as the Gambler hat.. The Gaucho hat was a lot flatter on top and work by south american cowboys, The Gambler was worn by river gamblers. But nothing compares to the fame of the Stenson, its strong straw material and design made it the perfect for killing the summer heat and staying on your head while on horseback
Baseball cap

A small brimmed hat in the front that stayed tight on the head to be used for when running and any outdoor activities. One of the most famous hats in today’s society
Flat Cap
What is a small loose hat resembled the old newspaper boy hats. Worn by young kids all around the US. Though started as a workers hat it became a staple of every young boys outfit. It was a british status symbol cap
The Fedora
A symbol associated with gangsters and prohibition. It was a brimmed hat that was small enough where it didn’t feel as intrusive as other brim hats, that cut you off further from people
Ushanka

A Russian hat used for the cold winters that Russia provides. It covers the chin to protect the face from all direction except face forward from the cold winds, and snow. Flaps can also be put up when the day got warmer or the wind was holding up
The beret
An ancient greek and roman hat, very popular in France and similar to the flat cap, but no brim and had a central point that was the key feature, very loose and flow as well
Bucket cap
A style of cap that is popularized by hip hop, usually felt or velvet and looks like an inverted bucket on your head cover all sides with loose brim that fell/sagged downwards
Beanie
A type of hat that is commonly worn indoors and worn by people who are trying to keep the hair hidden and want a slouch piece of cloth that keeps the top of their head warm
