Hello. Something that excited me about majoring in Illustration at Marywood, was having the opportunity to learn and experiment with new mediums. Painting (Oil) Throughout my art career in grade school, I had many opportunities to paint with acrylics and water colors. However, I never had the opportunity to paint with oils. My grade school prohibited the use of oil paints primarily due to…

Dungeons and Dragons Animation
I have been working on the animation from a past post, which was a sketch that laid down all the movement. I decided to fix a few things about how one of the pieces of hair was moving (the one in the front, to her right), because it wasn’t exactly looping correctly. It was jumping around at certain points, and since the rest of the hair was looping well enough, I figured I should fix it for the…

Infographic
Hello all! This week in my Intro to Graphic Design class, we presented our infographics! I wanted to do something a little different, but wasn’t sure how I was going to achieve it. When thinking of infographics, you usually think of organized, super informational graphics. When I was doing research, I found a few infographics based off of musical artists! I knew this was the route I wanted to…

Dynamic Painting Techniques
An important part of painting is exploring different techniques. This semester, I have had the opportunity to explore the use of both Acrylic and Oil paint together. When using Oil on top of Acrylic, fascinating subtleties happen on the canvas that creates a lasting impact on the viewer. When picking up a standard canvas at an art supply store, it is most likely primed with an Acrylic Gesso. If…

Hello all! These past few weeks have been super busy, but one of my favorite projects I have been working on has been my Cross Campaign Ad Project for my Intro to Graphic Design class. We had to create a campaign for an event of our choosing – it could be fictional or real. I chose to do a real event. Boxerfest, is a Subaru-enthusiast car meet in Pennsylvania for the biggest Subaru lovers. There…

Heart of the Womb
This week, Madison, our Sculpture blogger shares one of her projects that she had completed. She walks us through her creative process and shares her different ideas. Make sure you read the blog, and check out her piece on display in the Insalaco Gallery!
Throughout this semester I have found my love for sculpture and I have enjoyed a lot of the pieces I have made but by far this is definitely my favorite piece I’ve made. This piece took a significant amount of time and many steps. Through every step I learned a lot and enjoyed the process a great deal. The first step of this project was to make a torso out of clay. The class could choose whether…

Princess in a Cage WIP
Victoria, our Art Therapy blogger, shares a project that she is completing based on an early project she had done earlier in her career. Make sure to check out her progress, and keep in check for her future blogs. #MarywoodArt
In sophomore year, I took a sculpture class as part of my studio art portion of my degree. One of my favorite pieces I made in that class was called “Princess in a Cage”, the title is self explanatory: I made a small figure of a princess made out of wire and string, sitting in a sphere of colorful wire with flowers and butterflies. Thick, copper wire encased the sphere and princess, appearing…
