Sobek, The Kane Chronicles
Nicola, our Animation blogger, shares with us a beautiful illustration that she has been working on in one of her courses. Based off of a page in a children’s book, Nicola shares her process, along with some sketches as well. #MarywoodArt #Animation
Our current project in my Illustration II class is to illustrate a page from a random book. The professor had us pull the page from a bag, so we didn’t get to see what we were picking. Coincidentally, the page I pulled was from a series I read as a kid, called The Kane Chronicles. The author is Rick Riordan, the same author who wrote Percy Jackson and the Olympians. I don’t think I ever finished…

What's Going On? (April 2023)
Tumblr media
Hey, Hi, and Hello!
Here's what's going on with me in the month of April!
Tumblr media
BFA SENIOR EXHIBITION
I am very excited to announce that my work will be on display as part of the Marywood BFA Art Exhibition! It’s been quite a whirlwind preparing for the event, and as much as I want to gush about every detail, I also want to keep a few surprises. However, what I can say is that I’ll have 7 pieces available — some you’ve seen, and some you haven’t — which includes two zines of brand new artwork which will be available for purchase at the show (more on that later, though)!
The Marywood BFA Art Exhibition will begin April 15th in the Mahady Gallery, and will stay open until May 3rd.

THIS SIDE UP
A collection of artwork, This Side Up explores a theme of alienation through playful collage and liminal photography.
This Side Up will be available on April 15th in the Mahady Gallery in Marywood University, with its first edition run limited to 20 copies.

CONGRATULATIONS DELUXE
I’d like to introduce CONGRATULATION DELUXE, a 56-page zine of brand new illustrations — containing nearly every character I’ve created and designed during my BFA.
CONGRATULATIONS DELUXE will be available on April 15th in the Mahady Gallery in Marywood University, with its edition run limited to 25 copies.

That's everything for now! Hope to see you next time!

Odd Interests
If you're a fan of odd interests like ARGs and other internet oddities, you'll love reading this week's blog post by Mila, our On Campus Art News blogger. Dive with Mila into the world of Analog Horror, a sub-genre of horror fiction & found footage film.
For a long time I’ve been invested into internet oddities ranging from group writing projects such as the SCP Foundation to more obscure media like alternate reality games, commonly referred to as ARGs. Within the past several years I’ve become enamored with analog horror. Analog horror can be described as storytelling typically through the means of 1960s-1990s technology. Think of it as an…

Lost Boy
This week, our Art Therapy blogger, Victoria, shares some of the fan art that she created based off of Batman! She chose a specific character, Jason Todd, and created an illustration inspired by this character. Check it out! #MarywoodArt
The entirety of my winter break consisted of me playing the Arkham Batman series on XBox during my free time. I’ve always enjoyed watching superhero movies, Batman being no exception with the Christopher Nolan trilogy, the recent The Batman film featuring Robert Pattinson, and the DC animated universe movies. I’ve seen gameplay, commentary, and reviews for the Arkham series which convinced me to…

Birthday Cake
Nicola, our Animation blogger, also likes to bake so in addition to baking something delicious and beautiful, she also decided to draw a slice. Check out her illustration with colorful whipped cream in "Birthday Cake" #MarywoodArt #Illustration #Animation
For my birthday, my sister and I made a brownie chocolate cheesecake—recipe here by Cooking Tree—and I thought I might as well draw it too. So, here is a cake I baked.  I finished drawing it before I actually saw the finished cake, so I had to anticipate what it would look like. It has a pretty simple appearance, so that wasn’t too hard. My first plan was to draw the whole cake, but since it is…

Little Idle Animation
I did a bit of work on a walk cycle and an idle animation, both for a small game I’ve been trying to make gradual progress on.  The first, the walk cycle, was already sketched out. I just wanted to neaten it up and add color, which, although tedious, made it feel like it’s beginning to come together. While I was doing the lineart, I tried to correct inconsistencies. I wasn’t super thorough, but…
